Definitely more on the intriguing side than a "Scary" horror movie, but it does have a few jump scares etc. and an eerie vibe that keeps you interested. it's not grade A, no, but the cameraing is good, good music, well made and good acting from everyone, which makes this definitely worth a watch.

I simply made a comment stating I don't prefer Disney+ dramas because of the way they're done. Ofc I'm not going to judge something before it's out lol that's ridiculous to think that way, I'm just hoping it's decent.

I think over 90% of Disney+ dramas aren't that great and that's my opinion. You don't have to rudely reply to everything y'know.

The Manipulated was based off an already done movie I believe, so they had something to go off of.

But to be honest, I've found Disney+ dramas not that great. It's a very mixed bag between very good and very mid Kdramas. There's a few good one's, but not many if they're completely made by Disney itself.

I don't have much faith in a Disney+ drama, if it's good I'll be pleasantly surprised. Sad it's only 8 or so episodes. I also don't like how they seem to take no pride in their subtitles, they're almost so bad I couldn't watch multiple Kdramas on the platform.

There are some good female characters, but I just don't prefer them to be a lead. Most Chinese dramas are Women led. Too many episodes too.

Most Cdramas are female focused, or more on the side of the Female Lead having more screentime and the Male lead is second on the casting list. Not really my jam. I prefer Kdramas, which is why I'm on a Kdrama comment section right now.

I would never want to watch something without the original actors voices. A lot of Cdramas are cheap and cut corners. Not saying all, but I really can't get behind voice dubbing, deal breaker for me. I much prefer their real voice and it being the same tones they used as they were acting. Lee Jae-wook has a lot of attitude in this and I can't imagine what it would be like overdubbed, the feeling is lost for me otherwise.

Kdramas are higher budget and have better music.

Dubbing is insufferable for me, I know it's their own voice sometimes but it isn't seamless. They're way too cheesy for me personally.

The stacked cast and performances are what elevates it and the engaging story in my opinion! I can see though how some people may prefer other things.

Cdramas always have the voices overdubbed so the mouth movements never matches the words coming out and the production always looks too cheesy and silly, low budget. Never seen a Cdrama as serious and gritty as Alchemy of Souls, maybe that's why it's so popular. Don't know, just my opinion lol

Still no soundtrack, it's AI y'all. Getting tired of the AI songs and artwork in recent shows. First Nine Puzzles (the intro I would bet my life on was partially AI generated), Typhoon Family with the train song and now this.

No offense, but If you haven't seen it, you don't know just how inconsistent and stupid the writing in the second season is then. No character felt the same, they botched all our beloved characters and I'm not just talking about Go Youn-jung coming back, it was everyone. It's like watching a whole different show. People who hated the original story and only wanted romance as a focus, blasted the ratings up to season 2, when people who were avid fans of part one have some serious issues with how they ruined a 10/10 show.

It's pretty obvious when it came out that the writers made a big "whoopsie" and didn't leave enough room for what they were trying to go for and churned out a cliché ridden story to appeal to a majority of Women viewers who felt there wasn't enough romance in part 1, when part 1 was meant to have everything in it, which would appeal to what I would assume both genders. There was something for everyone. But the second part is extremely extremely boring and drug out, full of plot inconsistencies and bad clichés. Only 2-3 episodes had real plot.

There's nothing wrong with making a romance targeted towards Women viewers, but season 1 was a completely different objective that they destroyed later on.

Funny you pointed out a Kdrama that was toxic, I felt part 2 of Alchemy of Souls had the toxic romance cliché added to it and it made me sick to my stomach.

Supposedly Production confirmed it's not a BL too, like I thought from the beginning. Hate when people try to ruin friendship/rivalry based dramas with trains of thought that were obviously wrong. People can be friends that are the same gender, can't believe it's so hard for people to wrap their brains around such an idea like it's a novel concept or something 🙄

Ever heard of people manipulating votes because their "favorite" is in it? case and point with that season. Or people who enjoy rom-coms more than what the show was originally about, it lost it's flavor and turned into a braindead cliché romance amnesia plot.

"Those who watched this season" uhm, I watched it too, didn't enjoy her acting at all. That season is very split in opinion, not liked enough to have 8.9 but whatever.

I'm nobody's fan and didn't know who any of these people were when first watching this show. Go youn-jung makes 2 facial expressions in every show she's in. I feel like her face is stuck.

Not to mention the whole plot went to garbage and clichés a plenty.

It's horrible, one of the most blown out of proportion ratings this year. I don't drop dramas, but I couldn't make it past episode 10 and never felt the want to go back. I'd give this about a 6.5. Save yourself the trouble from this disaster.
