Right and another drama that's also airing right now was almost 3 years.
I know. I was just saying that our wait is not too long at all, comparing with the time some people have waited for their drama or dramas. My last sentence was not directed toward TOOL in particular, just saying in general, there have been those who waited for more than a year, even after receiving airing license.
I read the novel. Novel is indeed very dark, tortured and sad. I guess they have to adapt it for drama or else…
Yes, some novel readers mentioned that there are indeed moments of sweetness and fun in the novel. But, at the same time, I seem to sense that some readers feel that the is more humour in the drama than there is in the novel. I am not worried, because, from the preview of up and coming episodes, it seems more pain is coming right up.
I am not a pain-lover, but some viewers seem all ready with their boxes of tissues, ready to cry their hearts out.
Reba has such a nice personality, I was not surprised when I read that on Twitter. Hard not to be friends with her, except maybe for actresses who see her a threat to their career.
Jing Tian and Reba have acted together in a drama, Ban Shu Legend (2015). Their friendship likely developed during the filming of that drama. She is older and was already doing the FL in that drama, while Reba was playing a rather small role. She likely feels like a big sister to Reba and is really happy that Reba's career is flying at the moment. A bit like how Yang Mi would feel toward Reba, a big sister, a friend, no threat to her career.
I read the novel. Novel is indeed very dark, tortured and sad. I guess they have to adapt it for drama or else…
I certainly agree about the dark part. If episode after episode is full of nothing, but darkness, there could be far too much sadness for viewers to watch.
At the same time, I must add that the director and screenwriter need to be very very careful. There could be much more pain in up and coming episodes, but they need to be careful not to inject far too much humour into this drama. Truth be told, I enjoy all the humour in the dialogue and in the interactions between Yunhe and Luoluo. But putting too much humour may well cause people to feel less angst than they should, in a serious drama like this. Pain is what helped the novel to sell, so viewers need to feel more pain than they do humour.
The Long Ballad was great! Lots of stuff were serious, with just few moments of well placed humour here and there. Likewise YAMG. Hope they keep to the same formula.

This is just my opinion. I think they added the one sided crush component to spice up the drama. To make Changyi jealous of Haoqing. Why did they do this? I suspect viewers in China may like this. One sided crush is an often-used trope. And the actor who portrayed Haoqing, thus far, he has acted very well, showing he is a good actor, so he is able to portray that one-sided crush well. It helps to give an added dimension to his character and could make for more interesting viewing.
For me, it is so cute, watching a jealous Changyi, afraid that Haoqing may have romantic design on Yunhe, wondering how he can prevent Yunhe from getting too close to Haoqing.
A drama and a novel are two very different medium. Drama viewers and novel look for different things. In terms…
No no. Please do not understand me. We really do need to compare, and making comparison is really fun and intellectually stimulating. I did not read the novel, but did exchange lots of views with people who did read the novel. Some of these people I know from months ago, but quite a few, I do not know and just met them here.
Those exchanges made all of realised why they made the changes that they did. I cannot give specific examples here, or else I have to hide all the comments in spoiler, which I do not want to do. And there are also so many examples, it is difficult to list them all here.
Hence, please do not feel that I have anything against you having your own opinions. It is only through such exchanges that we understand our mutual opinions, and how and why we formed those opinions.
I am more of a drama viewer than a novel reader. So, I tend to see things from a viewer's perpective, and is merely reflecting that perspective. So, comparing is really fun, because I get to see things from people who have both read the novel and watched the drama. We just need to very mindful what can or cannot be done, when an adaptation is made. Certain things in a novel, certain scenes, just very very difficult to shoot in real life, or could be too repulsive to watch, on our TV or computer.

We also need to bear in mind, after a novel has been written, there will be feedback. I remember, on the page of YAMG, we were told that Gu Man added stuff to her novel, after receiving those feedback. I think her original was too short, so she added those epilogues. So, while it may not be known to us, but feedback this novel are certainly known to the producer, director, screenwriter. That is what we would expect of a smart screenwriter to do, when writing a script for a drama that is based on a novel.
I have personally witnessed one such changes, mentioned by someone who has read the novel. It involves a quote made by Ji Yunhe in the novel. That quote has two parts. I am not sure if it is poor translation into English. If there is no error in translation, then that is poor quote indeed, because the first part of that quote does not flow with the 2nd part. But I am really glad they changed it in the drama. Careful viewers who understands the dialogue will find that quote less than smart. Certainly less impactful then the actual dialogue in the drama.
I totally agree with you. That goose plays favorites..you know what I mean…
I totally know what you mean. I think Tencent is probably the biggest player in this industry. They may feel that they can do anything and not be worried about it. But, they are wrong.
If these favourites do not deliver, Tencent will pay the price. Both they and their favourites will suffer from bad reputation and image; financially, it will also affect Tencent, as producing all these dramas is not cheap.
There are so many things in the novel that is different in the drama and because of that, I'm quite disappointed.…
A drama and a novel are two very different medium. Drama viewers and novel look for different things. In terms of species, they could be as different as Ji Yunhe and Changyi. And we are dealing with a very very experienced director who knows the Chinese viewing market very well. He has directed so many Xianxia blockbusters. And the screenwriter is hardly a novice. They know what can be done in a novel but need not be good for a drama. There are also censorship issues to deal with.
Of course, everyone is entitled to his or her opinions, but I have read so many comments from novel readers who have watched the dramas. A great majority are very happy with the adaptations. They do feel that whatever changes that have been made, made the drama 'better' than the novel, better from a drama viewers' perspectives.
We are told that even the novel author herself is happy with the adaptations and is pleading for Youku to release more apps in China, so more people can watch it. If she, as the novel writer is happy, I mean, what can I say?? What more do I need to say??
Since these haters want to play games, we can play along with them. It is quite fun, actually. Because, when all…
Indeed! As a result of our concerted effort, it has already moved up by .1, to 8.3. We are not expecting it to move up to 8.5 or 8.6, overnight. It will take much more people to rate this at 9 or 10, for us to get there.
At the moment, we are hardly that ambitious. But, will be great if others who have enjoyed this drama, even if they watched it raw or with those bad subs, they can join in and help to repel those attackers, so passersby will not be misled by the low rating.
We need to move one small step at a time, to fight back one rater at a time.
Those raters who rated it low, as we saw in YAMG, some have black account (cannot recall the exact term). That means one person can set up a fake account, representing something like 20 different individuals. One person cannot bring it down so low. But 20 'fake' persons, each rating TBW at 1, that can do serious and rather unfair damage.
I thought Ep 9 is when he split this tail? What I don't get is how he starts walking near the start too.
I think him having legs in E2 is merely to let him walk normally, till his tail is split. How else can can they do it, in a drama? They cannot possibly show him hopping around on a tail. That would look ridiculous.
Oh? Hitting their production goal?? If they can wrap up filming in 3 rather than 4 months, we could really be…
Some articles say that wide fluctuation in body weight over a short period of time may not be good. But, you are right. She has probably consulted a dietitian and know the limits. And, she did say in an interview, while filming in Chengdu, which has good food, she will indeed eat more.
What to do? This is the same Dilraba. There is only so many ways she can smile. But here, her character is alot…
There is a slight difference. Only very slight. Although it is the same face, same smirk, but do you notice? Her face is much thinner here, compared to TLB. She fattened up, to look younger there, and she did, with a rounder face. Here, her face was really thin. And she is playing a more mature character. So even her smirk looked slightly different for me.
I could be wrong, but that smirk look in TLB, you must be referring to the way she looked at the crown prince, am I right? When she was trying to make his life difficult??
Episode 14 is going to be so chaotic 🦊🔥(The episode I have been waiting for)
The part where they showed the veins on her neck during the transformation, her movement reminds me of those zombie dramas from Korea. But it is so nice to see Ji Yunhe getting more and more powerful, instead of always getting bullied and tortured by those more powerful than her. Her revenge will be sweet to watch.
Right and another drama that's also airing right now was almost 3 years.
I think our wait has been relatively short. Filming was completed only last June. We knew the post production would take at least 6 months. So, at most we expected this drama to be out by Jan. But everything got delayed because of the Winter Olympics. So we did not wait as long as some those who did for other dramas. They waited for more than a year, even after airing license was obtained.
I thought Ep 9 is when he split this tail? What I don't get is how he starts walking near the start too.
I don't understand how he could with legs, but his tail certainly was not split in E2. It was much later, and it was painful. Keep watching and you will know what I mean
Since these haters want to play games, we can play along with them. It is quite fun, actually. Because, when all…
Indeed it is a cycle with each new Dilraba drama. They work really to downgrade all dramas. And, this time Allen also got affected.
If we wait too long, the low rating will affect those who come here by chance, wondering if this is a decent drama. These people might be turned away by the low mean score and not watch this. They would have missed a great fantasy drama, one of the best in recent years.
