It was a decent watch. Sure, story and romance seems very predictable and cliche but the actors sold it well. HT's dad actor is a standout performer. I found non-romance part of the series more engaging than romance. Siblings and little brothers were the most interesting characters for me. I also liked the FL's accent :)
ending seemed kinda rushed. I also had much worse scenarios in my mind about how its gonna play out. I didn't felt much impact of certain character's death maybe coz it was very predictable :/
Loved the article. In fact, I did think about this recently. Admittedly I also searched up the definitions for…
the best mashup of genres imo is slice of life with romance or any mystery/action/thriller with a hint of romance. in the shorter format like movies it works as a main. but for a larger format like 16-20 hrs, its better to have romance as a side dish than main one :/
"It may be presumptuous to voice but a viewer imposing their own expectations of what a story should be, while…
Sometimes I do end up imposing my own expectations on MC if I view certain questionable situations in romances but I move on focusing on overall picture. If it becomes unbearable then I drop it. First thing I learned while consuming romance content is to ignore certain parts of it coz it features quite a bit of overstepping boundaries with a dash of misogyny :/
lol the most famous (highly rated + no. of viewers) series on this website are primarily romance heavy. I am surprised to see an article making a case against 'romance genre is inferior' when it is probably general majority opinion that its not. imo genre is not inferior at all but rather majority of makers who are currently creating it are. Romance has become this formulaic cliché bs rather than showcasing 2 organic characters developing a relationship. Mind you, I have nothing against tropes. I welcome them in any genre. But when the smth relies heavily on tropes than it feels lacking. Story should not revolve round tropes but rather other way around. A good romance needs to have an engaging characterization of MC and decent dialogues first. Everything else comes secondary. Also there's an issue with execution of tropes. Makers or writers need to understand that tropes don't evoke emotions anywhere its inserted willy-nilly. Recently, it feels like they are being used as a cop out for lazy effort in writing. There's one more point I gotta mention- the cast. In the last couple of years, significant number of romance series have featured lacking cast as leads. Call it poor chemistry or bad acting or whatever but it also plays a major hand in making the end product a turnoff. At the end of the day, we know how most of the stories in the genre plays out so the journey should be enjoyable if not unpredictable :/
That was one example where the writers said "Ok, now how can we make this horrible situation a million times sadder?"…
his entire story was sad af. from having a chronic health condition to getting his adoption annulled. Getting deported and then not being able to secure a job coz he didn't have someone to vouch for him. And getting turned down by his mom for a meet up to mistaking anchor as his biological mother. finally dying alone in the motel room next to his dog ;(
I’m so glad that I read your comment, Arthdal Chronicles is a gem among stones, but I’m not surprised it didn’t…
whew. that's a lot of money. all-in from the jump. this is the one thing I liked about success of GoT and Westworld despite some wacky last couple of seasons in both of them. it made production studios more open to the idea about investing in these genre stories. haha. they can't afford A-listers after spending a huge load in production and marketing. even when GoT started majority of cast wasn't that well known. although same wasn't true for Westworld.

yeah its under one of their labels 'New Line Cinema'. I thought series was adopting stories from 'The Silmarillion'. either way its an ambitious project. haha. lets hope such epic project happens.

yeah. atleast emergence of streaming platforms has provided a better chance for series in full blown fantasy or scifi genre to survive than strictly cable network. I remember reading smth about LOTR being picked up by Amazon studios to develop a multiple season series. Not sure if its still in works or not :/

yeah its not a great return on investment for them. full blown fantasy shows almost always get dropped unless they are stellar in ratings like GoT. KTEM was a hot mess of a series. it was a carry job by cast and partly production. that series must've set a record or smth for the absurd amount of PPL inserted :/
