cnetz on douyin are so funny, i was watching some vids and one commenter with 20k likes said in regards to mo cai huan: "Give her spiritual roots! Give her spiritual roots! Dig up Wang Chan's and give it to her. [tears][tears][tears][tears]"
Another popular one:
"When reading the novel I thought, "Silly woman, go away! Don't block Han Li's path to immortality!"
When watching the TV drama, "Han Li, go dig up Wang Chan's spiritual roots and give them to her immediately! Immediately! I can't bear to see her cry."
since some people have been arguing about whether han li sees mo cai huan as just someone to feel pity/guilt towards or like a sister rather than deep, hidden romantic feelings, I want to share a novel fact:
When Han Li is over 2400 years old and in the Mahayana stage, he has to face his inner demon in which is his life's biggest regret and biggest obsession, in order to advance. His inner demon is Mo Cai Huan.
Yes, after more than 2,000 years, he still doesn't forget her and she is deeply enshrined in his consciousness. You do not feel that kind of obsession for someone you see as just a pitiful sister. The time he knew MoCaihuan was barely a few decades and they didn't even have that many encounters but she left such an impact on him.
The obsession comes from the massive "what if" Mo caihuan represents and also adds a huge tragic element because Han Li later finds out that shaping mortal spirit roots IS possible and he didn't need to make a choice after all between love and cultivation, if only fate was kinder to him.
Still, the fact remains that in his heart, there was always a part of him that had wanted her to accompany him as a life partner, even though he didn't accept her at the end of the day.
Maybe in another life, they could’ve been together, but their paths are completely different.
oh I don't disagree. my point was just that he does not see her as a sister and his feelings are in fact romantic bc that's what some ppl were trying to argue. it's just very surpressed.
Maybe in another life, they could’ve been together, but their paths are completely different.
they likely wont get to this part of the novel but bc we know the context of how important mo caihuan is from both the novel and the donghua (the drama did an almost frame by frame adaption of the donghua mo chaihuan scenes!) it's safe to assume it's not unrequited just like it wasnt unrequited in the donghua. he just chose cultivation over her, but he did have feelings and you can sense it also with the directing choices.
Maybe in another life, they could’ve been together, but their paths are completely different.
it's not unrequited lol.... if it was unrequited she wouldn't become his biggest heart demon and obsession even when he became a super powerful cultivator later on. he regrets this hesitation later but by the time he realizes his feeling it's too late
I'm curious if you've mellowed your opinions on the ending or the drama as a whole after so much time. I felt…
I still hate it, and as someone who has read the original novel this was based on and seen how well the reincarnation / souls traveling through time trope was handled there, this drama absolutely dropped the ball and while your theory is nice, ultimately it's still just a theory.
the novel is called The Promotion Record of A Crown Princess
Those who know the story, spoil it for me, please! Who is the FL? I want it to be Ms. Mo. It's ok to break my…
in the drama the FL is Nangong Wan. However, Miss Mo will eventually become Han Li's 3rd wife after multiple reincarnations. Their story is very tragic but she is the one who ends up cultivating to a level closest to his and stays by his side cultivating. She becomes of one of the most powerful female cultivators ever.
Nangong Wan is far behind in cultivation and the 2nd wife would have died and barely been up to par if not for Han Li helping her, so I barely consider her relevant.
Basically, Wang Ning (Mo Caihuan's 2nd reincarnation; the 1st reincarnation is ZiLing but she also dies protecting Han Li!) is the closest he has to an equal imo.
It's impossible for the drama to reach this point however because they'd need like 1000 episodes haha
Good to know. Obviously drama won’t get to that but given the amount of care devoted to their interaction, I…
I honestly think Mo Caihuan is Han Li's greatest love so I agree production definitely had it in mind! WARNING: more novel spoilers ahead.
He may marry Nangong Wan as his first wife but allegedly the author had to do that because his readers voted for that pairing with money while the webnovel was ongoing, hence the super lazy and forced aphrodisiac plot to start their relationship. Even for marriage, it's more about benefits and cultivation than love.
But Mo Caihuan is different. She becomes Han Li's greatest regret and obsession. They are basically star crossed lovers and even in their 2nd lifetime she dies trying to save him. Han Li chases after immortality for the sake of immortality; she chases after immortality for the sake of spending a lifetime with Han Li. She reminds him of his human roots and human heart.
I have become a big Mo Caihuan / Han Li shipper. I think the main reason is because I can see he treats her differently and they seem to have similar hearts. If it was anyone else who hugged him from behind, he would have run away so fast but with her, he has to struggle and clench his fists to not touch her back.
From the very first time he saw her, he noticed she was different from her sisters. She saved his life even when it was against her interests, bc it was the right thing to do. She has a compassionate heart, is a healer, and never takes advantage of him. She carries the kind of quiet peace with her that I think suits Han Li perfectly, if only she was also a cultivator they would be a match made in heaven. They also have such a sweet, serene chemistry to them!
BIG SPOILER for the novel:
I know they won't end up together in the drama bc this happens 1000s of years later, but it makes me happy to know that she will eventually become his wife in her third reincarnation, and that she is the wife (out of his 3 wives) that he goes into cultivation seclusion in, and who also has the highest cultivation after him. She is also his biggest heart demon and for good reason!
I agree K dramas have been lacking recently but chinese dramas suck big time. Always the same BS.
that's kind of a crazy comment considering nearly 500 cdramas released in 2024 alone. idk what you're watching but you probably haven't even scratched the surface of what's on there or you're only watching idol dramas which don't get good reviews anyway.
wait I was really excited for this but the comments were negative at first so I decided not to watch it but now…
I feel like this drama is lowkey 5 dramas in one, each love story of the sisters could technically be a self contained mini drama. it has a lot of conflicting opinions bc of this and different people will like/hate different tropes attached to each arc. So you may be like me who finds some of the arcs meh, and hates one, but fell in love with another. i'd say watch a bit of each sister's love story and feel if you're vibing with it, and if not skip to the next.

They are very poetic tbh.
