oh yea you're right, how come no one has a gun in this drama? not even the gangsters
Yuki below mentioned the gangsters were armed in another scene and the police for sure were holding guns when they arrived after the car chase. It just makes it a little strange that none of the 30 guys he fought with shot at him. But personally doesn't bother me - that fight scene was fun:)

Ep6 has some charged moments^^ …some of which seem to have been cut? Am I supposed to understand at this point what LWZ was trying to say in the kitchen before he abruptly cut off and went to make the call? Cause I have no idea. Was that scene longer in the book? (Please no outright book spoilers. Interpretations of that scene in the drama are very very welcome)
Also that laughter when they talk at the cemetery seemed out of sync with the situation? Can't believe LWZ fell for that fakest of fake coughs earlier lol

Anyway, I do like that these two have so much history and conflicting feelings about each other. Makes their dynamics quite interesting. It's also a lot of fun trying to puzzle out what PS is up to. Zhang Xincheng is chillingly good in this role!
The resolution to the first case genuinely surprised me. I didn't consider that scenario at all. With some questions left unanswered it segued nicely into the next case …which already chills my blood.

Seriously subpar element would be quality or post-production problems. I for one will not hold it against them…
But they didn't! They're not promoting this drama on their English youtube channel. They only made machine translated subtitles an option (one of several) on the app with a clear warning. Some people would prefer that to no subs at all. I really don't see what's wrong with it, especially as they seemed to want to keep a low profile.

I wouldn't even notice if the police didn't hold guns when they arrived on scene. I guess minor suspension of disbelief goes well with this genre:)

Hahhah ikr, I wonder why his cat is named Frying Pan and if it's him or Pei Su (Or Tao??) that named it. We need…
It's weirdly endearing that the cat got the same treatment with the name as the rest of the cast lol

Seriously subpar element would be quality or post-production problems. I for one will not hold it against them considering the difficult situation with dangai dramas and the fact this dropped suddenly in radio silence. Someone on the network could've made the decision to air this, while the team had no resources. Anyway they already fixed the subs for half of the released eps and invited people to submit corrections. Plus international audience is really not their main focus.

Ep4: I puke when I see blood ...and I'm carsick! - you're both obviously made for this job lol
I will never say no to some good old action comedy with that cake and sacks fight and the head bump in the car:) But how come no one thought to bring a gun? Oh well, maybe in this future civilization only the police know how to make weapons…

It seems like on Youku the English subtitles for episode 1 (at least) have now been updated from the previous…
Ep1-4 on youku have good subs. Hopefully they'll fix the rest soon.

I started this with no expectations but after 2 eps I'm hooked. I like the urban noir vibe. Pei Su is such an intriguing character. Captain Luo named his cat frying pan(?!) so he must be an awesome person. He could take better care of his bike though. I'm gonna lose my hearing from the squeaking brakes. Can't wait to see how things unfold for these two!
Btw the cats seem to be all over c-dramaland recently. Where are the dogs? I want more dogs!

Didn't they say his land got confiscated too? He lost his power base and reputation - wouldn't be surprised if one of his former friends would off him soon to keep some more secrets hidden. To me the ending was satisfyingly realistic.

That victory moment of Cheng Renqing leaving the court to get his behind whopped🤩 I really liked the tone of this drama. Mixing funny, serious and emotional in just the right amounts. The setting of the story where a bunch of officials try to outmanouvre each other is nothing new under the sun. But the adversaries were so cleverly written and well-acted, it kept me engrossed throughout. I agree with the other comments - more dramas like this please:)

I have not once used the word "stiff" in any of my comments. I'm also not a part of any "narrative". I meant exactly what I said which was my own opinion -> that I'd prefer if Earth injected a bit more charisma into his portrayal. Because imo he often blanks out emotions that would've been natural to show at that moment - which in turn makes his Jim come off lifeless and makes me feel disengaged. Sorry, I don't know how else to explain what bothers me about Earth's acting.

I just read your comment about the new episode - bad person? Really?:D Just because I can't tune into Earth's way of acting and see all those subtleties you're talking about?
Ok, it may partly be my preference for more expressive actors. But imo he often blanks out emotions that would've been natural to show - which in turn makes his Jim come off lifeless.
In this latest episode he says he was startled by the surprise party. Well, if he hadn't said that I wouldn't have known - I couldn't read it in his acting at all. He seemed slightly annoyed if anything…

Having said that, I do like Jim as a character. I do think Earth's portrayal of a depressed, stressed out guy who feels older than his age is believable. I actually have no problem with his youthful looks since it's all about his mental state and working through his past anyway. And I did like his acting in this episode - once he let his emotions loose;P

Sorry, I think I confused myself there lol. The two interpretations I was thinking about were
1.) You no longer love your partner but there are a hundred little things, memories, etc. tying you together. In that case the complicated thing is extricating yourself from that shared life, cutting ties and physically moving on when emotionally you're already done and ready to close that chapter.
2.) Your relationship ended for whatever reason and the complicated part is falling out of love - letting go and moving on emotionally.

Tbh, ep4 made me even more confused (and curious) about Wen's situation. He seems to be done with the relationship but still shares a bed with Alan couple of months after he slept with Jim?

PS I'm not sure how Boticelli's Venus made it into the conversation but how is she perfect? Have you seen that too-long neck and weirdly sloping shoulders?🤨

Who was the terrorist who complained about the sighing? I hadn't noticed before, and now I can't NOT hear it,…
But Earth is a little wooden here. I'd prefer if he injected a bit more charisma into his portrayal. Jim acts like he's 30 going on 75. My grandma is 95 and has more life in her (definitely sighs less;)
I interpreted that line from Win's father a bit differently - that things get complicated when you fall out of love with someone you're sharing a life with.. I thought that may be Win's home situation. I sincerely hope he's not trying to fall out of love by having one night stands… Terrible idea lol
