OK. . .I made the wish that they keep Grandfather with us through all of November. π In return for that, though, in Episode #8, we've got Name's Mom ready for a hospital, and Name staring at a full bottle of pills for way, way too long. π¬
I have a poor track record for accurate guesses on where this series is going, but I'm making another that Name's Mom's medical crisis is going to lead us into #9 where Name has to use his voice to call for help with the phone or at the ER. They're piling way too much reality on Name for the past 4 or 5 episodes. . .π£
Since everyone was all together at home, he seems to have been taking one step forward and about three steps back. I'd love to know what twist in the story is waiting for us by the time we get to Episode #10 or #11 to explain why Name has had to make this journey for so long. π₯
I've all but given up on Em being the answer to his problems. π€¨ The only saving grace for these two as a couple at any time would be for Em to show up face to face at the door in #9. ππ½ββοΈ
Finally, Gun and Golf are out in the open after, what. . .11 years and X number of months? π I had a feeling that the 'Sprite with Salt' was going to drop a big hint to Golf, but in the end, the big reveal turned out to be Gun's familiar signature on a drawing. π Not that Golf hadn't already figured it out 80% anyway. . . π He did have to get though Gun's shyness and self-esteem issues to do it, though.
The biggest surprise here was that Gun was willing to admit he was 'Number 8' without dragging it out for another semester. π³ He's not Fiat anymore, that's for sure. π€£ Fiat would have knocked out Golf with the lamp and set fire to the entire dorm. π
After how slowly this relationship was built up since September, I had to laugh at how Golf made up for lost time by making their relationship official and talking Gun into moving in with him before he even changed out of his 'Star Trek' shirt. π
Then there's Nan. π . . .doesn't even know Champu's last name when he needs to find her. . . π€¦π½ββοΈ . . .Eight episodes with the wig. . .so we are going to see it for all 12 episodes, aren't we. . .? The things we get used to in the name of art and cinema. π
Episode #9 will start us out for December. I'll keep my guesses for Name's speaking, Champ's Grandfather and Champu's whereabouts on the back burner until after the next show. π
Did the screenwriter have a stroke? What just happened? How did those two horny maniacs become two pensioners…
That was a good observation. . . π I was guessing that I was the only one who was comparing that reunion to "two senile old ladies". π§π½βπ¦―πππ¨π½βπ¦― That's at least two of us that saw that. π
I was kinda wondering what the end result was going to be for last two episodes worth of twists and turns here. . .and all roads led to Season 2. π I should have guessed that was going to happen earlier on when the creative department started holding back the feels from us and doing time jumps. π₯ π€«
OK. . .it's part of the ride I bought the ticket for. . . ποΈπ’π‘
I'm probably going to jump into Season 2 with both feet, mostly out of curiosity for what kind of quality the next storyline is going entail. . .hopefully a lot of what we saw in Episode #7 in between the angst. ππ«π
My fingers are crossed that the groundwork is already laid out for Season 2 during the next 8-10 months, mainly because of. . ."The Curse of 'My Engineer'". π§ββοΈ They held back all of the relationships in that one to work us all into a sweat for the next season, and after our pining away for that one. . .half of the contracts expired, they went through a recasting frenzy, and they've yet to film Season 2. πππ£
That was 1966. . .and we've been waiting 56 years to see the reunion. π΄π½π§π½π§π½β𦳠OK. . .maybe not that long. . . . .but the 2 1/2 years makes it seem like forever. π
I'm excited about this one finally getting on the schedule. π As long as I don't see red apples and cellos in the first two episodes, I'm OK. ππ»π
I was just comment how hard it must have been for doing nearly 4 minutes of dialog, navigating the streets. This…
And convincing, too. π§ I kept waiting for someone walking or someone on their bike to turn around to notice the camera, but it all looked seamless. ποΈποΈποΈποΈ I wonder if they were able to get this shot in less than 5 or 6 takes? π
I was just comment how hard it must have been for doing nearly 4 minutes of dialog, navigating the streets. This…
We got to see something rare like this a few months ago when the first episode of 'My Only 12%' gave us that opening scene from one room, down the stairs and outside, next door, up the stairs and into the next bedroom.
After about 90 seconds, I was like, "Wait a minute. . .that was an unbroken shot for that whole scene". . . π³
I'll bet we see a lot of comments this weekend about the quality they're giving us in this series, . .namely for that outdoor shot. π
I liked #8 for so many good reasons. . .the acting, the lines, the direction the story took us, and the low-boil chemistry, to name a few. π
Surprisingly, what really impressed me the most for this episode was the cinematography. π₯
Very, very few times have I seen a shot work so well as the one where Bai Lang and Jin XunAn were outside having their heart-to-heart talk, and the camera followed them for that one shot three blocks down the street before the scene ended. π³
This was all set up very well and I was totally impressed. π₯°
I'm definitely digging into the rest this series for the whole 12 episodes.
I still have this lingering sense that something great is missing from Fridays now that we've wrapped up the series. π¨
I'm going to finish November wishing there had been time and money for 20 episodes instead of 14 of them. π It was great while it lasted, though. π₯°ππ₯°
It took me a little while to think about what I actually thought of this last episode. π Perhaps, at least to me, it was because very, very few things that were done here in the last two episodes were easy to tie together with what we saw earlier up to #6.
I'm guaranteed to do a re-watch of this whole series because everyone was adorable and likeable, and the acting was great. . .however. . . π
So many plot holes. . .I lost count of them, and a choice few of them were ever explained or resolved. π¨ The continuity to bring this whole story together seemed OK up until episode #5, but by this last episode, it would have taken the light from 'Continuity' about 6.2 years to reach where the rest of us were. π½πΈ
Jake was supposed to be the driving force of everything Kevin was doing in his live streaming. By #8, though, all I saw of Jake was one scene with Kevin, one with See-Foon, and a rude phone call from Jake's mother. π§
Nothing that Kevin did to Pluem in #7 or #8 was ever explained or justified, either, but we got a happy ending out of it, anyway. π We also got to see one more scene with legs and shorts on Tod, so that redeeming feature was still there.
It has been said here already, but Pluem is definitely the better and more forgiving of the two, and I couldn't have reconciled with Kevin as easily as he did. π Especially after seeing that Pluem had watched all of Kevin's live shows for three years, but Kevin hadn't watched a single one of the shows Pluem had done, even though his family had been watching them in the US. π€¨
When I saw the 'Three Years Later' trope appear at the bottom of my screen, I literally put the show on pause for 10 minutes and walked away. ππ½ ππ½ββοΈ Way, way, way too many times I've seen a good series pull this card on us, and it almost always breaks the spell of everything I was feeling for everyone in the show. π
If it was Season 2, Episode #1, the "3 Years" stunt could be effective, but tacking it towards the end of this series was a bit much. π I've not ever understood why it couldn't be 'Three Months', 'Five Months', or 'Six Months' instead of this 'Three Years' deal.
But. . .for all of my complaining, all is forgiven (except for the 'Three Years' thing) because this series had all of the makings for telling the story in 12 episodes, but it had to be cut down to 8. Lots of important plot points had to be tossed to finish it in 8, and it shows. π£
I was bothered a bit that this ended, to me, unfinished more than rushed. I would rather have seen the last three episodes rushed to answer all of life's questions, but I got the strong impression that it came to an end instead with 7 minutes of something missing here, 4 minutes there, and another 9 minutes somewhere else. β
I'm not going to lower the rating I gave the series earlier because it did have all the makings of something great, and maybe, with another 4 or 5 episodes, it would have been. Except for my gripes about the small details and the 'could have beens', this was a great series. So too, was the acting, and the chemistry, and the legs. π
Now I wish that they had done 8 complete episodes, and then. . .given us the reunion and the time jump as an hour long special afterwards. π₯°
The popcorn is on the grocery list for this one. . .so I'm hoping this is almost set to go by May 1st. Next week would be even better. π€£
It's going to be interesting to see what sort of a new twist this series will have, but I have all the faith in the world with Tay and New making this work perfectly. π I really liked the original, so I'm excited to see the finished product here.
It's been a while, too. . .'Dark Blue Kiss' was three years ago already? π§
I wonder if they could sneak Yutaro over from Japan to play his role in this one, too? He had a great deal of presence in the original. π
I read through these and just stopped. . .like this. π³
I hadn't heard anything until today about 'Cherry Magic', and now it's on my 2023 list, too. It's going to be different seeing Tay & New not playing Pete and Kao, but I'm looking forward to it. π₯°
Thanks for mentioning that, too. . .I would have gone another 5 or 6 weeks without having a hint about it. π I hope this project comes together quickly before anything changes with it (I'm not mentioning 'My Engineer 2', either).
I wonder if there's room anywhere in 'Cherry Magic' for that teddy bear Kao gave to Pete in 'Dark Blue Kiss'? π§Έ
So all Nameβs friends went to college and he sits around at home doing nothing? I assume his home-schooling…
It's just dawning on me after #7 that everyone has been in college for 2-3 years (I think), and they live less than a two-hour bus ride from home. π
Not once have I caught a hint of anything that says that Em went home during all of that time to see Name in person. . .or his family. I hope I'm wrong about that, but it would add more insult to injury. π€¨
I had been thinking about a fireworks-filled reunion between these two after college, but now I'm having less and less faith in Em really caring less. π If Em did go home and settle back in to see Name on a regular basis again, I think I'd have about 5% trust in Em keeping any of his promises.
I wasn't expecting any of these twists and turns to last for 4 episodes. π¬ It doesn't seem like Name has been 30 feet away from his house in all that time, too.
With some of the not so welcome added elements to the story in #9. . .I think I was a little happier with the wipe-downs and the laundry fails we had before this. π§½πͺ£π΅π΅
I'm getting really creepy "Sunshine Night De Facto CEO" vibes off of Mom, even before she shows up out of the blue to start running Ai's life. πΏ I'll stand with those who have already said, "the bone marrow was enough. . .leave him alone". π€¨
This will be one of the few times that I won't mind Nhai being impossibly stubborn when listening to someone else. π I'm hoping that's going to be the direction we go in #10.
In return for that, though, in Episode #8, we've got Name's Mom ready for a hospital, and Name staring at a full bottle of pills for way, way too long. π¬

Sometimes I wait an extra 9 seconds before hitting the 'POST' button because I'm trying to guess how annoying the post is going to be. π¬
In UWMA, I was fine for the first two episodes. π
By the time we got towards #11, I was losing it completely just by watching Fluke eat Dean's Grandmother's food. π«π¨π°π
I still get goosebumps over that scene. π
