I'm kind of surprised that we're already 7 episodes in on this one. . .and that's probably due in part because of the way a lot of the flow of these relationships is moving along over the course of a few years rather than one semester. π₯±
There's definitely a fair share of dragging on parts of this story, but luckily, for me, I'm one of those that doesn't mind the slow-burn buildup in a relationship, or the aspects of hard to get and hide and seek. . .we've got them all here. π₯° Thank you out there for the screenplay that keeps Grandfather with us into the second half of this series, too. . .but now I'm having my doubts after Episode #8. More Champ angst coming up, I guess. π¬
I've been waiting eons for the Gun & Golf Show to finally get real, so we're getting closer. We'd have to by now, right? π€¨ Still, with Gun being shy to an extreme (I didn't say gun-shy), I can easily see Gun outright lying to Golf that he isn't 'Number 8' just to stall for more time through another episode. π€¦π½ββοΈ I have no idea yet why he hasn't made a move ever since Golf had the drum major uniform on. π
But. . .if they're sharing earbuds. . .their destiny is written in the stars. π« ππ«
The Em & Name story has gone from angst over to cruelty in the matter of the last few weeks. They've made sure to give Em very few remaining redeeming qualities at this point of the series. And, sadly. . .I'm on board with most people here that believe that all paths through the internet lead back to Mom. π₯οΈπ«π₯οΈ Name's new friend has way, way, way too much motherly advice to be anyone else.
Watch. . .π Now that I've said that they'll throw us a curve. . .even though our friend didn't look very happy with things in the #8 teaser. π₯
I'm not going to dwell on Nan. π Doing so would make me talk about the wig. The show isn't set in England in 1964, so the wig isn't making sense 3 or 4 years into college. π
Next Sunday. . .Episode #8 here we come. I'm stocking up on pickled fish just in case Grandfather decides to join the cast of 'Ghost Host, Ghost House' right in the middle of Champ's exam. π§ββοΈ
I loved the way this whole episode was put together, so the :57 minutes seemed like it flew right by. . . .even with our over-exposure to A, Bee and Sea. πππ I don't even mind them at this point of the series. . .they add just enough to keep things balanced, as long as they aren't used for non-stop head-slapping sound effects (choose your favorite series for that one). π
Having said that, I need to be excused for laughing for a full minute when they were having drinks at the bar with Team. ππΎπ΅π΅βπ«π₯΄ Seeing A, Bee and Sea with booze was the high point of my day just because it looked 100% like Team was having drinks with three 11-year-old kids. π€¨ I'm sorry. π€£π€£π€£
Having Win & Team as a side couple in UWMA is starting to take on a whole new angle with this show, and I'm really happy that so much of the storyline is original. π₯° I had no pre-conceived ideas during UWMA that Win & Team would have logged in so many hours together before we even got to the Open House. π₯΅π₯΅
Makes me wonder, too. . .π€ There was that great scene in UWMA with Win restraining Team ever so slightly (while Alex and Dean were facing off against each other, with Pharm at the lunch table). In the last series, that was an important reference point in Win & Team's relationship. . .I wonder if it will be featured in any way again in the next episode or two here, once we get past the Open House?
I can go on & on about the chemistry with these two again, but it's a given for each episode. The non-verbal stuff between them is what stands out like few couples I've seen in a while. π UWMA was built around Dean & Pharm pre-destined to be together, but what I'm seeing with Win & Team in this series doesn't seem too far off of that.
It took less than three episodes to make it crystal clear that these two are perfect for each other, whether it is rearranging the lockers by the pool or Win being 110% committed to getting Team through his nightmares, insomnia, and PTSD. This relationship is just plain fun to watch in every scene. π€
So, I'm counting down the days and hours to #4 to do it again. π₯
Having said all of that. . .did anyone else notice that half of Team's wall posters seemed to have come directly from Cake's room before he went to America? πΈπΌοΈπΈ
But. . .when I'm enjoying any of these shows. . .remind me to stop the show and walk away so I don't see the last 8 seconds of the episode. π€£π€£π€£
Sometimes, I'm under their spell and I don't want a cliffhanger. π₯°π¬
This series has gotten off to a great start. π Not once through the show did I get the impression that Noey and Thi were characters that weren't the same age, so I would never have noticed it. π₯°
I thought I was headed into 'Bad Buddy' territory with this one, but this show has its own spin on things, it's different, and I'm sticking with it in the coming weeks. π
There were hints of 'My Engineer' every so often, but only as far as the 'Wow. . .you're not as sarcastic and bossy as I thought you were' that comes to mind. π
I'll be tuning in again next Friday. 'My Only 12%' has finished up, so I need something like this on Fridays to curb the withdrawals. π
Out of the 7 episodes we've had so far, they never explained THE FLOATING CAR. Pluem saw a whole truck floating…
I hadn't thought about Mom until you said that. . .and I don't recall Kevin trying to reach her since he left the airport in Episode #1. π³ There are a lot of these gaps and questions in these last 7 shows. π Thankfully, everyone being adorable is carrying this show despite the hiccups. β€οΈ
I'm starting to get the impression that they started this with a screenplay 250 pages long and hacked it to pieces down to 170 to fit it into 8 episodes. βοΈ π₯ βοΈ . . .and then threw out the other 80 pages without making room for continuity. . .
I hope I'm wrong. π We deserve a good ending to this series; one that's not mired in confusion. π₯°
Almost everyone involved is doing a great job across the board, but I think there should be a special room set aside for three people in these studios to come up with proper endings for these shows. π€¨ Give them two laptops, pens, paper, crayons. . .whatever. . .just don't let them out of the room until they have two drafts for the final episodes. π»π»ποΈπποΈπ
I love this show too much to see it given a confusing or rushed ending like we got at the end of 'Triage', ' Sunshine Night' and 'Bad Buddy'. As much as I liked the majority of those shows, the endings to them are still burning my eyes yet. π£
There's very little that I've guessed right as this series has moved along, and Episode #7 threw me another curve, which I guess is alright when you consider they were given only 8 episodes to tell this story. π
But, setting that aside, I'm still confused about the way Jake's role in all of this was rushed, and Kevin not being upfront about his feelings and plans. π€·π½ββοΈ
If I had to change any scene in this whole series, it would have been that phone call scene about Jake. π€¨ A set-up for that needed a lot more than the 45 seconds it got. . .but that's what the time allowed, I guess. If there were 4 more episodes, we'd probably get all of our questions answered, but for time limitations and in the name of art, we have to fill in the empty spaces ourselves. ποΈποΈποΈ
Still, for #7, we got to see the beach, they showcased Tod's legs again, and it all made for some nice moments. . .rushed or not. β€οΈ I'm all out of guesses at what #8 is going to give us, but the trailer did spare us any scenes at the airport, and at least a few of the loose ends will be tied up for us. π
I'm just a little bit scared heading for the remaining six episodes (besides what they're slowly doing to Grandfather). π³
It just dawned on me that this series is a direct cousin to 'The Yearbook' and it had me thinking. . . What if. . . π€ . . .they did big parts of this series like 'The Yearbook' was presented? π
We would have the scenario of seeing Nan with his wig for the first 7 or 8 shows, . .and then, after he ditches the wig in #9. . .they give us tons of flashbacks of 'The Wig' again in #10, #11 and #12. ππ³π¬ Perhaps this show is only nine episodes, and the flashbacks make up the remaining three. π€£
Nah. . . .actually, I'm more optimistic about this series. . .depending upon what kind of an Episode #7 Champ has. π
It's a whole day later since Episode #2. . .but even I still feel like my shoulders should be sore yet from those lockers being pushed into the drywall about two inches. . . π₯π₯π₯΅π₯π₯΅π₯π₯
Almost. . .I think. πAt least over the course of the same afternoon and evening, anyway. If you end up watching…
I hope you get to watch 'Until We Meet Again' sometime, but it isn't required reading to enjoy this series. π 17 episodes at an hour each will you take a while, but it did set a standard for shows that has rarely been matched. π
Maybe I'm lowering my standards for this show, but it has made the experience a lot more enjoyable. β€οΈπ€ͺ The cast is way too adorable, so I'm stuck with them doing whatever they want for another four more episodes. . .which probably entails six more wipe-downs. πͺ£π§½ Ok. π
Even the side couples. . .no problem. π I liked Jom in 'Nitiman', and I like him here. I liked Gun in 'Love Area', and I do here, too.
Not excluding any excessive drinking, near-fatal injuries to Nhai, or 4th Grade behavior towards each other, I'm still back here next week for #9 to enjoy it all again. π
As someone who hasn't watched UWMA but only the "original" WinTeam scenes, I'm kind of confused about the timeline.…
Almost. . .I think. π At least over the course of the same afternoon and evening, anyway.
If you end up watching Episode #4 of UWMA, Pharm is sitting outside with Team and Manow, and they talk him into making them lunch that day (pleading is more like it).
My favorite recollection of that whole scene was when Team told Pharm, "PLEASE. . .make me lunch. . .Win is so tough on me". . . π€£ Now I know why swimming practice is taking so much out of him, π₯΅
Pharm comes through, delivers one lunch to Manow at the Drama Club as Alex comes in to put the moves on Pharm, and then he brings the rest to Team at the pool.
The overlapping scenes aren't seamless, but they did a great job of minimizing the confusion putting them both together. π
Two episodes so far, and two great shows that had everything I'd hoped to see. π They did a pretty good job of smoothing over the UWMA storylines with the progress on this one, and it was hard to notice anything out of place. β€οΈ
I'm on board with everyone who thought Team was so innocent in the whole first half of UWMA, only to see the details and chemistry light the screen on fire before we get anywhere Christmas. π
Enough has been said so far about the locker room scene, so I'll just add in that I am 1000% totally impressed that they did the whole scene without knocking that big trophy down off of the top of the lockers. π π₯΅π₯΅ I was looking for paint missing off of any of the lockers. . .but I didn't see that, either. π€£
My main goal now, for Episode #3, is going to see if I can catch any welts and bruises on either Win or Team . . .or to see Dean come in the next day and find out someone knocked over his shampoo bottle and cologne.
Episode #6 worked out pretty well, even though things have moved along slowly for the last two shows. If it's at a slow enough pace to keep Grandfather with us, so be it. π
Gun and Golf are still talking on an alias-by-alias basis, but they're all but in love at this point, now that we've seen the undeniable BL prop of 'the sharing of the ear buds on the bus'. π¦»π½β€οΈπ¦»π½
There's no going back once the ear buds go in. π
I thought Gun gave away the whole secret as soon as he let the 'drum major' comment slip, but I'm leaning heavily on the 'Golf already knows and isn't fooled for a minute' side of things, by Episode #6. π
And Grandfather's got a fever that coincides with Champ's heart to heart talks with him on video chat. . .so we're screwed, aren't we? π£ Screenwriters, at least give Grandfather the month of November with us, how about that? π€¨
By the time Champ finishes college, Grandfather's going to be out of the pickled fish business, and Lucky is going to be in an urn on top of the TV set with a dog collar around it. π¦β±οΈπ¦
The Name-Em saga has been mired in heartache ever since Em got on the bus, and we're still waiting for changes. β I'm still siding with Name for two reasons, though. First, Em can spare even THREE MINUTES somewhere to call and chat with Name. βοΈπ This 'I won't be able to reach you for 7 days' thing is getting to be cruel. π€¨ Second, Name's eyes get sadder and sadder through this series. . .and it's getting to me. π₯Ί
Still, I've liked every episode, so I'm willing and able to jump into the second half of this with both feet. . . .if, for any other reason, to find out exactly where Gun slipped up enough to show Golf all of the cards, and how long Golf has known. . .unless I'm wrong on this again. . .
My only hang-up about this whole Episode #6 was the bathroom scene. Nan is sitting in contemplation over the Champu thing, and Em is brushing his teeth, lending moral support with a mouth full of toothpaste.
I might have blinked. . .but where did the toothbrush go? πͺ₯
Em had it in his hand in one shot and it's gone in the next. . .so I have to go to sleep tonight with the prospect that Em walked around for the rest of that scene with the toothbrush in the pocket of his pants. π Not that there's anything wrong with that. . . π
I don't like where its going ... I swear to god if they kill Name it will riot...
I'm going to throw out a guess that our friend is going to be all right. π₯°
That's only because of Episode #1, and I'm pretty sure that's Name in the very first scene narrating the story and setting us up for everything that happened over the past 26 or so years. π» Right now, though, you're right. . .Name needs a break from the angst. π₯π¬π₯
