I made it to episode 22 but am waffling on continuing. 1.) Johnny's beautiful & had a great part to play but he can't act worth #$@% in my opinion--but I knew that, so no surprise there. 2.) Dilrabia's gorgeous & her role started off great but I have not found a modern drama of hers that I have liked so far & this is yet another character of hers that I don't feel connected to & have lost interest in how she achieves her dreams apart from the ML.
So, yeah...it's "on hold" but I'm probably dropping this one. I feel like I drop SO MANY c-dramas, yikes.
Just started this little gem & I have to say it reminds me of everything I would want in a YA romance fantasy: it has cute talking magical creatures, a magical world & a mortal world with great sets/CGI/costumes, some flying Wuxia martial arts, the demon/mortal/heavenly realm power jockeying prevalent in Xianxia, a series of investigations among the overlapping magical & mortal world, an intelligent, magical, inquisitive, BEAUTIFUL FL & an intelligent, mortal, skeptical adorable ML. (She's soooooo pretty & his smile makes me smile in response, he's so cute.) It looks like their chemistry will be good, but we shall have to see...
How is no one talking about the sheer & utter absurdity of this show? I mean, the show lets you in on the joke & shares the absurdity with you, but YIKES, be prepared is all I'm sayin'.... The gaudily & scantily-clad cast (both male & female) paired with those transitions from scene-to-scene-- quippy little captions on a frozen overly comedic expression-- made it obvious. Uhhh...and the endless Lamb Feasts, anyone? (I'm thinking slapstick cheeseball-style stuff mixed with a surprising number of sexual innuendos.) The 9 year brother made it even more absurd but I guess this show is going for some shock value. I think if you watch the first episode, you'll get the gist of it & decide for yourself...
On Ep #25 & I have not skipped a darn thing; this show is done SO WELL. Pacing is perfect so far. (I drop a LOT of c-dramas & I don't think that's going to be a problem here.) Teensiest weensiet gripe is that I wish the couples had more actual "couple time" to showing feelings develop but since this story is set in the midst of a war, it's more believable that they're connecting amidst the chaos, so yeah, I get it. I highly suggest starting this when you have time to binge some of the episodes together! **Ep #40 update** So, the leads are a great fit together but very intellectual characters that seem more caught up in the plot so there's not too much romance (just sayin' what I like in a drama) but the 2nd leads have this delicious tension between them. And I must say the delicate blooming amidst hardship character development of the 2nd princess made me love, love, LOVE her character so much. I will admit to skipping through some of the plot elements; I don't know why, but this story feels familiar to me.
So far (on Ep 10) this is shaping up to be one of the best Xianxia Fantasy Dramas I have seen to date. It's in the same league w/ TMOPB, Ashes of Love + Love & Redemption. The FL is mischievous & intelligent WITHOUT coming off as a bratty teenager. Nice! ML is the typical melting ice cube but Xu Kai does a decent job w/it--even though I prefer him in the mischievous role instead. It's visually stunning & the worlds are drawn both intricately & expansively (lots of love here.) Story is well-paced with a nice mix of different genre elements. Characters are introduced in handfuls so you never get people mixed up with how they are all connected!
Well-produced light-hearted drama; leads look good together; dubbing industry sounds cool! FL is definitely on the childish side for me but gets a little better after the MC gets together. Loved Amy Tan in Accidentally in Love & her role is missing that spunk here. Too bad because it makes her character boring. He's cliche as well but plays the cold but mischievous role well. I'm just wondering why they fell in love, that's all. Can I say that I loved seeing the antagonist get shown a societal punishment: incarceration...? That doesn't happen very often! Also, FL could have been a bit less reserved. The ML carried the chemistry for them both...

FYI: I started watching this on Dramacool but 1) the subs are autogenerated there & 2) the film quality is really poor. Youtube is 1000% better but man, they suck for ads. I guess I'll try to deal with them for this show...? Ugh, even worse are the manipulation tactics of Youtube to try to get you to upgrade: every ad shuts off your English translation in the cc settings. I have to be at the ready to click it on EVERY TIME. :(
I skipped all the couples except the MC. Their initial encounters were addictive & binge-inducing but it petered off quite a bit toward the end & I felt unsatisfied at the ending.
I hardly EVER watch an on-air drama but this one snuck past my radar & I just couldn't resist it. Story is interesting & not draggy (up until Episode 18, that is) with lots of action & romance. yay! FL is intelligent, independent, calculating & not annoying. ML is a manipulative shyster with some serious charisma, my oh my. He had to grow on me a little bit, I must admit! He played the domineering, manipulative a-hole a little too well, I guess, lol. FL & ML's chemistry is *the reason* I've been watching it. Both are plotters; love how he's helping her get revenge. I just worry that since it's a c-drama, mid-drama mess-ups & closure catastrophes may occur but we will have to see. More than once, I wondered if there was some tragic foreshadowing happening while praying, "please don't die, please don't die..."
At Ep 9 & not seeing what everyone is disliking about the story...maybe that will come in the next few episodes? Love the leads & even if the story goes south, I'll still finish watching it to see how it comes out between them. The puns & mix-ups/mistakes in language & idioms as well as just basic historical knowledge are GREAT. I love how the restaurant peeps laugh at them in the background!
Excited cuz Viki says it's "coming soon!" (Yay but ngl the tag currently under "Where to Watch" is a little premature & raised unnecessary expectations promptly dashed into falling, fluttering pieces of disappointment.)
I watched this consistently until Eps 18 & then started to get bored so just starting skipping ahead to finish. They wrap up things really quickly in the last couple of episodes & if I had been attached to the story, I would have minded; I didn't & was glad they expedited the finish.
The FL & ML are just "okay" chemistry-wise (seen them with better pairs in different cdramas) & the writers made HER character excessively clumsy & awkward--like stupidly so--and HIM so awkward & cold, cold, cold until all of a sudden we're supposed to believe he fell in love with her??? I didn't see him melt at ALL. Ugh. I usually watch for the romance but their falling in love story wasn't that great. What made it cute was the little boy & his communication cards. Soooooo cute! He's really the only reason I finished it. Production quality is decent, though.
So far this is visually appealing but not my normal choice of popcorn & candy snack dramas. ;) Argh, Maggie Jiang always plays intelligent women in her roles but dang if I can find one where she has a satisfying romance.
This was soooooooo cute! Sweet Teeth is a weird title (imo) but this show was definitely sweet enough to make your teeth hurt, lol. Nice balance of cuteness & cliches. Main couple have very subtle, realistic chemistry! The story was well-paced, the music fitting, the production quality STELLAR for a modern romance c-drama & I just could not get enough of the soft, fluffy cotton candy vibe it had. (Yes, I mostly watch dramas for the romance. And yes, some of my favorites are the ones that may rot all my teeth out.)
ML was introverted but not the traditionally repressed quick-to-anger trope; all he needed was to find the girl who "got" him & he started figuring it out. FL wasn't annoying (yay) & had a quiet, reserved self-confidence about her as well. I thought the Denistry setting would be unromantic but I was proved wrong. Also really liked how the story created a previous connection for our leads without it dipping into childhood connection cliches. Other commenters were annoyed by the Africa break but as I expected a separation (cuz c'mon,there usually is one) I assumed they picked Africa out of a hat. Intentionally racist? I would rather say: unaware, insensitive or ignorant but everyone's got a p.o.v.. Other couples were just okay, which was slightly disappointing. It didn't feel dubbed, either, which I liked.
I think this is one of the best trashy low-production quality romance fantasy c-dramas I've seen--I would compare it with The Eternal Love but the music & chemistry in that piece of enjoyable trash was better! I do say "trash" with complete & utter fondness for it, btw. ;) The story starts out with the typical backstabby fighting tribe stuff, turns into misunderstanding city after the leads decide they like each other & plays up the fated lovers angle nicely. It gets draggy in some places but's so much fun with the steampunk elements & full embrace of magic. For some reason I get teenage feels from this a la Twilight but with wings & not fangs. Not sure why...The ML is rocking his role being the domineering winged king (those lips! that skin! those piercingly blue contact lenses; just wow) & I think if the FL had a little more chemistry with him, this would've been another one on my multiple rewatch list. I liked her in A Girl Like Me more but she was still lackluster, lol.
Wow, this drama is so much FUN! I am excited that I kept watching after not liking the first episode at ALL. I picked it up & put it back down when I first saw it. This trope is a love of mine. :D
Very rare that there's good comedy with the romance in modern day c-dramas. I knew Liang Jie could pull off comedy pretty well but Steven Zhang is impressing me. I am really enjoying these actors together after seeing them in other roles, too. They do such a fantastic job of playing the other when body swapping that you're just swept into the story-- though I will say Steven gets more nods from me. His affronted surprise plays very well. ;)
Love fluffy fantasy romance costume c-dramas & I REALLY wanted to like this one since the MC has great chemistry, great kisses & a cute fantasy connection backstory. Sadly, it lost momentum & what was silly & sweet turned into just plain stupid. Too many other dramas to watch for me to suffer through it...
