Thank you for this comparison with the novel. I only read eight chapters and knew where it was headed, so stopped.…
No, I have not read this novel. I did notice at the beginning g of each episode that the little line drawing with the episode number contained an element of what was taking place at the end of the episode. And, the use of flashbacks brought detail into responses each of them had after they got together we’re so well done that one didn’t really mind the flashbacks because they actually filled in gaps rather than just being filler material.
Well stated.Another thing to mention (or maybe you did and I forgot because I needed to refill my coffee) is that…
I have not read the book. But noticed the references to it. I will have to at some point because it did pique my curiosity.
Maybe this is a difference also. The films or stories produced here very rarely are accurate representation of the novels on which they are based. There might be a small detail here and there, but never fully depict situations or subtleties as can be conveyed in the written word.

It can be frustrating when people basically tend to look at things based on their own country of origin or the inadequacy of translated text. In the drama they kept talking about an age gap making it sound like he was 20 years her senior when he was only 5 years older than her. That’s not significant at all.As for the research, I tend to do that on things I don’t understand or that catches my attention and knowing my country and laws are different from those that govern China, especially when it comes to things like kissing and relations in dramas. Where Ii d it is very different - there is very little not portrayed on film and one of the reasons I have stopped watching TV here.In Prisoner of Beauty, Liu Yuning was asked about the scenes where his and Song Zuer characters were intimate, and this is true of all adaptations where the book is differently represented. POB was *very* spicy in the intimate parts, and it was LYN who said that if they had portrayed those scenes exactly as they were written, the entire cast and creweoyld be in jail. This is why I try to tell people to look at the drama differently than the book, because, unless the book is 100% fluff, it cannot be the same on screen. They had to change the age gap so that the drama was not promoting anything illegal, and did not cause backlash for everyone involved.Hopefully people will be able to think things through a little more before they take an excellent production and cast disparity on it because they ignore cultural differences.I am glad I was able to help you sith trying to make things clearer.
Thank you, but they look nothing like a cherry blossom or any similar tree. the flowers are quite large and almost cup like in shape. I love plants, but have never seen anything like it.
Start with Hidden love, love like the galaxy, Genz(not romance focused but you'll like her character and it'sfunny…
If you like modern dramas, try dating In The Kitchen and Hidden Love. If you want a costume drama try Love Like The Galaxy, The Story Of Pearl Girl, Who Rules The World.

I agree with you as well. I should have been more specific on my definition of fans. I meant the people who go crazy with following rumors, believe that the person they follow does not devote every minute of their day to them, or decides to date someone they don’t ship. KU is vile from what I can see - we do not get as much information in the US about what is happening, and most of what we do receive is from gossip channels on YouTube. But, that may also have a lot to do with the politics between China and the US.
I admire Rosy not only for her acting, but the way she presents herself to her fans, her compassion for the less fortunate and how she steps up to do things others in the entertainment industry will not touch. She is a small woman in stature, but a giant when it comes to compassion.
When I saw the videos of her when she was in the hospital and trying to learn to walk again, I cried. I prayed for her healing - not just physically but also the emotional and mental that KU had damaged so much that it paralyzed her. I saw one where she was sitting near a window trying to make ✌🏻with her fingers. She was using her opposite hand to move her fingers, and when she finally got them right, her smile was so bright and she was so happy. I cried at that too because it meant she is getting better.
I think she did the right thing leaving Weibo too. Hopefully when this mess with KU is over and all their illegal manipulations and theft are brought to light, she will take up acting again.

She has a lot going on with the establishment of her new company as well, and her brand endorsements outside of KU. I really hope that her efforts create a big change in the management of talents, their accountability to laws, and put an end to dirty tricks and manipulation by the agency executives. And, hold the rumor mill participants accountable for their defamatory lies they spread about her. Fandom needs a big shake up as well. Artists need freedom to live their own lives without crazy fans demanding that she (and others) have to da rifice themselves just to please them. Buying merchandise and chasing them from one location to the other doesn’t make them a dictator of the celebrities life. This is just as annoying to me as KU’s dirty business.

Another thing to mention (or maybe you did and I forgot because I needed to refill my coffee) is that I don’t know many young girls who haven’t had a crush on an older boy. It’s NORMAL. Girls mature faster than boys typically, and encountering a handsome young man during her maturation, who was kind, helpful and showed genuine concern for her by going out of his way to help on several occasions was in start contrast to a busy father and a brother who was mostly a thorn in her side and picked on her constantly.
Duan Jiaxu filled an emotional need in her developmental years, that gradually developed into a deeply strong and resilient love.
And, people who are so caught up in the “age gap” should do a search for age gap marriages and relationships. It’s not that uncommon.
The deviation between the ages from the book to the drama is easily explained. Censorship. And here is why: In China, the legal age for marriage is 22 for men and 20 for women, and any marriage below these ages requires special permission. While there are no specific laws against underage dating, sexual activity with individuals under 14 is illegal, and there are strict penalties for adults engaging in “relations” with minors.
This change was needed, because portrayal of anything else could have put everyone in jail.
Thanks again for your well crafted explanation of this drama. It has become one of my all time favorites and knocked my two former comfort dramas down a notch.
This may sound like a weird question, but in episode 4 when Duan Jiaxu takes Sang Zhi home on the bicycle, they are riding under some trees with beautiful pink and white blooms. Does anyone know what the name of the tree is? They don’t show it long enough for me to screenshot it so zi can look it up. Thank you for your help!

The BEITD ending was very misleading. In one part they were putting up decorations with 2 people that had died, but in the last scene at her dance performance he was there but then gone. Even if he did die, I found the ending quite touching, that she was dancing for him, and had his customary seat in the back ready for him, just like he would always have a place in her heart.
It was his tears over her performance that I think threw everyone off and when he wasn’t in his seat they automatically assumed he had died.

They were choreographed so well. Now you make me want to watch it again also. Right now I am on a Johnny Huang addiction after rewatching Bright Eyes In The Dark. He’s another that people called ugly, but I find him very attractive. And he has cute ears 😂

She is my favorite actress. Almost every production I have seen her in (except Autumn Fairy Tale with Xu Kai) was so good. Whether her character is fighting for her life (Pearl Girl), Cooking up a storm (Dating In The Kitchen), or young girl who protects her first love regardless of anyone’s opinion (Hidden Love), she masters the role and makes the characters believable and relatable. I have a feeling she will be back, maybe even forming her own agency like Yao Ming (who also had similar abuse from the same agent as Zhao Lu Si.
Well, this made me even more excited. I can't wait to see Lusi with William Chan. https://youtube.com/shorts/xp7aT72mjLY?si=TtiTgrvQqngmAgu1
I first saw him in a drama called Novoland Pearl Eclipse and I was instantly hooked. He is very talented, and I also find him very handsome. He is manly, and not so thin a stiff wind would blow him away 🙃 He was also in a drama called Adoring which is about pets and learning to love and protect them. He’s very versatile and regardless of the role he always excels.
Pairing him with Zhao Lu Si is a stroke of genius and I look forward to this drama.
PS - Did I mention William Chan is very handsome?? 😍
As to the number of episodes being discussed, China’s National Radio and Television Administration has capped the number of episodes at 40 and encouraged producers to keep it under 30. This regulation was implemented in early 2020 to improve the quality of TV shows. These longer dramas in 2020 were probably approved before that regulation went into effect. Plus, it’s a business first drama, the romance is secondary and not the sole focus, it’s a side story.
I think people set their expectations on everything focusing on the romance and ignore the order of the genre(s) that align with the drama. This is listed as business THEN romance, not vice versa.
As this is a rewatch for me, I am now on episode 8, and there’s a scene in a restaurant that has white floors and tables, clear chairs with glass and silver walls and ceilings. It’s like being trapped in a box of aluminum foil. I never noticed that before. 😆
