Title Guardians of the Dafeng Spoiler
Those two things are definitely connected, but not really possible to explain it without spoiling the whole book.
Not anybody we know either. She's just a nice lady. Xu Qi An actually has a biological brother and sister. I wouldn't expect any of this to happen in season 1, even assuming they don't adjust the plot for the drama.

I listened to the audiobook on Ximalaya (in Chinese). He went traveling with Lin An, I don't remember him fathering a child but could have just missed that. Would make sense since Huai Qing became the Empress.

He's a really fun character! He's the Supervisor's apprentices and all of the Supervisor's apprentices are weird…
No, this is his first scene I believe. He's a recurring character tho.

His parents are both still alive actually. His dad is the first apprentice of the Supervisor and is working on overthrowing the current emperor (and the Supervisor).

To do this he basically stole the mandate of heaven and shoved it into his son. This is why Xu Qi An is supernaturally lucky and why the baby dragon naturally obeys him.

His dad basically did a "erase from reality" magic spell that erased all knowledge of himself. This doesn't work as well on people who knew him well, so Xu Qi An's uncle thinks he was some soldier who died in a war.

To clarify, he did not do this to benefit Xu Qi An. In order to remove the mandate for his own use, his dad would need to kill Xu Qi An in the process, so Xu Qi An is basically a sacrificial lamb for his dad's plots.

He is basically Xu Qi An's father figure.... you may or may not learn about his real dad, depending on when this…
I know that's the story his uncle remembers, but that is not actually what happened.

I'm curious to know why the main character had a connection with the dragon and who his parents really were.

Him and Lin An sailed off into the sunset basically.

Haha maybe. At least in the book it's a pretty steady climb. They could always surprise us and yada yada yada half the book! It would take a crazy abrupt acceleration to fit the book into this season though.

Yes, book is very very long. Even if they toss out a bunch of it they will not be able to reach the end.

Keep in mind like with all these cultivation books the protag needs to reach the top power level by the end. Currently he is rank 7, with 9 being lowest and 1 being highest....

I mean, no idea if they will get it made obviously, but there is 0% chance they will get through the book plot in 40 episodes. So they can either make another season or toss half of the book (probably a bit more then half) in the trash.

It is fairly faithful. They have cut a few characters, mostly fun supporting people, but nobody critical. The only major departure is adding a lot more scenes for Lin An (the whole thing about pretending to be Huai Qing was not in the book).

This is likely to establish her as the main female lead. The novel has harem elements so the female characters have more equal "screen" time.

The overall plot however is progressing pretty much exactly as in the book.

I feel like there will be a season 2 to this? there's a lot unresolved yet for 20 more episodes..if it's true…
It definitely will not wrap up the book. They be lucky to get halfway through. Unfortunately the first half of the book is better then the second half.

does someone know why the baby dragon reacted that way to xu qian and why the emperor was so mad? spoilers are…
Why the baby dragon reacted that way is a very very deep spoiler that may not even be explained by the end of the season. I'll just say it's related to why Xu Qi An keeps randomly finding money on the ground.

Why the emperor is mad is just because he instinctively doesn't like Xu Qi An. The reason isn't really explained as far as I remember. Possibly he is subconsciously sensing the same thing the dragon senses or possibly he just doesn't like his personality.

Episode 19. The ML and the Grand Princess work so well together, don't they? She is so damn intelligent. Great…
Previous comment is correct. In the imperial family, most of the princes/princesses are half-siblings.

Hua Qing and the 4th prince share a mother, and Lin An and the crown prince share a mother. Generally the ones who share as mother are much closer and treat each other like siblings. The half-siblings are just competitors.

Loving this drama so much. I didn't have any expectations but I'm greatly surprised by the quality of the script…
Yeah she really grows and matures through the book too. You kinda feel proud of her by the end.

If you're liking the overall story and script so far, I'll just say you haven't seen anything yet. The story of the book just gets better arc by arc for the first 60% of the book or so. I expect this season will end about 50% of the way through the book.

I wanted to ask those who have read the novel. Does the novel have romantic elements in it or is it the drama?
The novel includes harem elements although he eventually ends up with Lin An. The drama has significantly cut down on the harem elements to favor a single female lead.

Previews for episode 21! Who is that sorcerer that looks and acts and sounds just like the ML from the back? I…
He's a really fun character! He's the Supervisor's apprentices and all of the Supervisor's apprentices are weird in their own way. His particular quirk is that he always stands with his back towards everybody, 100% of the time.

What happened to Yue Yao at the end? She just kind of wasn't in the last episode? I was curious how come she's not in Blood of Youth and assumed she died in some tragic way, but she just kind of vanished?

Agree with the other guy, Mr Li was pretty cool but most of the last 10 episodes were a bit boring. Interesting story in concept, execution was just ok.

Blood of Youth was a 8-9/10 for me, this is a 6/10
