I don't dislike it but I am getting pretty bored now at ep. 11. It feels a little dry. Does it pick up soon? And…
Having same thoughts, on ep 8. Pacing seems really slow, nothing is being solved in interesting ways.

Like usually these types of shows have mini climaxes, so far there has been no climax, things just keep drifting along

Common thing. probably because the original story is too long. Fight Break Sphere, Martial Universe, Great Ruler…
The length is not the problem, they “solved” that by only adapting the first third of the first book. I think ppl r more annoyed that the protagonist and most minor characters outside the shrek seven devils are basically unrecognizable in terms of personality and backstory and many story moments they kept are portrayed in very boring ways

Just FYI, they're not actually related, they just use the same sect names.... the books are even written by completely different people.

Yeah there’s a lot of characters making dumb decisions because the plot requires them to. I really couldn’t…
Yes because any reasonable human being would abandon their pregnant wife in the middle of the night to attend a tourney hosted for a foreign king who has known megalomaniacal ambitions just to satisfy their stupid pride.

And after that bad decision ended with his old teacher dying he decides to wander off in the middle of the night again! This time presumably knowing his wife was at term! Truly old Geng was too dumb to live.

The only thing this being in the script shows is that the script is bad.

Edit: What really gets me is how easily the writers could have made his situation more sympathetic and understandable. Why didn't they just have his wife come down with an illness or something and he needs money to hire a good doctor? Have the teacher show up late, by the time the teacher comes to tell them they can go home he's already gone to the tournament. That way he has an understandable reason to need money and take a risk and doesn't look like an idiot.

I have watched 19 episodes and the main character does get better. His upbringing is kind of at fault for his…
I've only read Jin Yong's books. Seen some Gu Long and Liang Yusheng dramas but IDK, I really think Yin Yong's works are a cut above the rest even if I can't articulate why. Maybe that's just nostalgia talking.

Geez this Geng family gene pool is very concerning - all brawn and no brains is not a good prognosis for long…
Yeah there’s a lot of characters making dumb decisions because the plot requires them to. I really couldn’t fathom why dad Geng after BEING TOLD HE COULD GO HOME still felt the need to abandon his PREGNANT WIFE to enter a shady tournament hosted by a foreign king. The answer is that if he didn’t there wouldn’t be a show.

Yeah I get that it's a very common trope. Doesn't make it less annoying though haha.

I think the older I get the lower my tolerance is of "those damn kids"

I do find the godfather character very interesting. His girlfriend is a walking cartoon though and also annoys me whenever she's on screen lol.

You really should stop watching things you hate, very unhealthy. Go seek help if you hate people that easy to…
First off, voicing criticism doesn't mean hate. I'm perfectly capable of enjoying something that isn't perfect and that I have critiques of. I'm a grown-ass adult and my opinions of things don't have to be either "it's perfect" or "it's flaming trash."

Second, this is a drama discussion board so it seems very odd that you are trying to suppress negative opinions. Discussion is the exchange of opinions, whether positive or negative. If you want only positive reinforcement feel free to go masturbate.

LOL sorry that they don't have any idols here, and the actors..... whether they can fight for real or not they…
I can't fathom how you think characters in this drama are smart. I literally yelled at the screen when the dad character decided to go to the tournament, that's such a stupid, no-brain cell decision. Also, the female villain's reaction to oh my lover doesn't want me around is apparently maybe I should get really into poisons?

I also have 0 idea why you keep brining up idols, this seems like an unhealthy obsession of yours that I definitely don't share and am absolutely uninterested in exploring so I'd encourage you to seek professional help.

I have to assume he will get better but as of episode 6 I'm developing a growing urge to punch protagonist-kun in the face. I think he's suppose to be a lovable goofball but it's coming off as an annoying little shit.

IDK how you got that pile of drivel that from what I said but what I meant was that the plot developments are extremely predictable and lean heavily on tropes, which makes sense bc the original work was part of the generation of works that established the tropes to begin with.

The characters also very archetypical and the acting is over the top... the actors, especially the villains, are really chewing the scenes in a way that isn't really in vogue anymore.

If you have watched the anime or read the novel. You have to be very open-minded. Anime and series really can't…
I tried to keep an open mind and judge the drama by itself but the degree to which it fails as an adaptation is just too large to ignore. It's not just the change in Tang San's character, that's what people point out the most but the drama does a bad job with numerous aspects of the source material. It really felt like the drama people looked at the source material and were like how can we shoot this in the most underwhelming and small way possible?

For instance, I was very looking forward to Luo San Pao's super-saiyan moment but they just went with "let's just make him brighter."

Tang Hao's entrance went from the best moment in the book to just an old man out of stroll.

Tang San's hidden weapons went from potentially a world-changing technology to basically kid's toys from Walmart.

This also applies to characters, Chen Xin was a mysterious badass who became a walking joke in the drama.

The drama did a good job with the friendship and team-building scenes but whenever there was suppose to be a "cool shit" scene it fell flat on its face. I seriously question whether either the writer or the director were fans of the novel/anime at all as they seem to have either no interest in or no ability to portray any of the best moments from the source material.

I mean, I guess it's fine if the higher-ups at Tencent decided they wanted to adapt the novel so they found a director and a writer, handed them the novel, and said adapt this so they skimmed it and were like oh, this is about teamwork! And that's all they took from the novel to the drama. But in that case, they should not expect fans of the novel to be fans of their drama.

Also, idk about the anime but the source novel included plenty of team building and team training scenes so IDK why you think that was specific to the drama.

Title My Heroic Husband Spoiler
The city attack in episode 33 makes no goddamn sense.... how did they leave 0 ppl to watch the walls? Like yeah they were awake all night and they're bandits and not soldiers but surely they've slept out in the wild enough to know that SOMEBODY needs to be awake while ppl sleep so they don't all get stabbed in their beds. The dumb idiots somehow got ambushed in their own city by ten thousand ppl in broad daylight.

I feel like the entire thing was so that they could save some money by not having to shoot a wall assault scene.

I wanted to watch it, but ... why did they cast the same actors as in Joy of Life? It looks bad, they were brother…
Actors work in clusters in China I think, like whole groups are employed by the same company so when the company make a new drama the whole group gets cast. That's prob why you see so many actors working with the same co-stars over and over.

Would assume the evil old guy is funding the bandits? Otherwise it's hard to imagine the logistics and economics of maintaining like ten thousand bandits (who are not well known for logistics or economics) in a group.
