I assume that they didn't want to actively show the transmigration due to government regulations about that type of thing but they had to shove the plot point in there somehow or Tan San wouldn't know how to make hidden weapons. They can't have him transmigrate without showing transmigration because we can't see his thoughts but if his dad does it we get dialogue to explain things.

I feel like Nirvana was more emotional and gave me more feels but Joy is more fun and has more twists

Where you listen the audiobook?
Ximalaya. My mistake though, I think it was the narrator's accent. I found an updated version from this year that's much easier to follow.

Trying to listen to the audiobook cuz I liked the JOL audiobook and it's... exhausting and hard to follow? What is up with this guy's writing? He doesn't seem to believe in following story threads, it's like a stream of consciousness series of scenes with a metric ton of named characters that wander in and out of the story randomly. Anybody familiar with the book? Is this just how the whole book is?

I know I'm late to the party but just discovered this drama and holy crap it's so good. Binged 14 episodes in a weekend. Plot is really intricate and well crafted, characters are nuanced, really funny and emotional. Production value is whatever but I mean it's made by a video site I've never heard of (Mango?), so that's not unexpected. Just wish it were more widely available to watch.

Why do people always assume that being critical about something is the same like hating a thing? And why do people…
Completely agree, I think ppl can rate things on whatever criteria and at whatever state of completeness they want, as long as they provide some sort of reasoning. Like most things, drama-rating is extremely subjective and as long as ppl can tell what the rating is based on it's all fine for me.

I don't believe anyone would want to purposely give something a low rating just out of hatred. What hatred is…
I think that's the case for most chinese dramas? Douban is weirdly harsh on domestic (chinese) dramas and seems to really go easy on foreign (western/japanese/korean) shows. Grass is always greener on the other side I guess.

8.0 on Douban is like an incredibly good chinese drama

Didn't she ask the villain general guy why did you act so prematurely? Sure seems to imply they're plotting together.

Just finished this drama and I'm wondering if Yan Bingyun will be a regular character (main role) in Season 2??…
Based on the book he will be an ongoing character and one of FX's chief underlings.... due to various plot reasons however, FX and YBY are not in the same location for long periods of time though so I would assume he'll slip in and out. However, Wang Qi Nian was also left in North Qi in the book and fell out of the story for a while and they found a way to keep him with FX in the drama cuz he's a fun character so maybe the same will happen to YBY in season 2.

The stabbing isn't a thing in the book though so his entire character could be rewritten, who knows.

He wanted to expand his acting portfolio by taking some risks. Hopefully, his next project will be better.
I rly wouldn't describe this super generic xianxia cultivation drama as risky... if anything it's too rote.

I thought he came off a bit strong too when watching Ever Night initially but he kind of defined the character with his potrayal. As somebody who'd never read the book IDK if AC was even portraying the character correctly but by the time the series ended, the character was him and he was the character.

Then Ever Night 2 came though and it felt like there was a hole where AC used to be? He has a particular arrogance type feel about him, IDK if it's good but it's very distinctive. And when his role was recast he basically became a different character suddenly, which was very jarring.

Title Joy of Life Season 2 Spoiler
Yup
Yes, at least until about 70% of the way through the book YBY has not yet betrayed FX significantly although there's some minor shenanigans for complicated reasons. They're still mostly on the same side.

The 2nd prince never gets along with FX, they keep fighting and eventually the 2nd prince teams up with the crown prince.

Wow, if you were doubting this drama like me then Ep. 14 will sell it. It's pretty damn good! I'm usually good…
Haha, when in doubt, characters in C-dramas who dress in dark robes despite their entire sect dressing in white robes are generally evil until proven otherwise... basically the dramas play by Disney movie rules.

I assume that was the twist you were talking about? I felt like he was off from the moment he appeared in episode 1, not because of anything he did, just cuz his clothes were black for no apparent reason. I was actually shocked when the shifu was implicated in being evil for a bit.

Yeah that was a good scene. Mentors have to die though, just how these stories go haha. I hope being a fictional mentor comes with good life insurance.

Yes, some

Yes. If she had talent, it would have been easier to forgive....
Exactly, I'm not going to say it's impossible for a good singer to instantly become a good actor but maybe give them some supporting roles first and how those go? It's not just reading your lines and doing some pretend-fighting, acting is a craft and people go to school for years to train; I'd be equally skeptical of actors that suddenly decide to become singers until they've proven themselves.

Spoilers obviously, but yes, you are correct. He's mechanical, this is also why he's able to fight at such a high level despite not being able to do actual qi techniques. He's superhumanly fast and strong because he's literally not human.

It's kind of whatever, a pretty par for course cultivation type drama with a bit of romance. Won't find much that's revelatory but it passes the hours. It doesn't pretend to be an epic like Ever Night in terms of tone and it lives up to its reduced ambitions decently.
