I don’t think Li Yunrui would fit this type of role he’s not that charismatic. Ding Yuxi or Li Xian has that…
Thanks for the suggestions of a Li Xian drama!

The FL role requires the chef to be at a peak of her career. Conveyed aptly with careful makeup and clothing, I'd say any of the two actresses I suggested could carry this role. Zhang Zifeng is FL in the C-Drama remake of K-Drama "My Mister" with Mark Chao which hasn't been released yet, and succeeding in those two roles as per the originals for emoting and facial expressions and in conversations is quite demanding.

Both actresses can also complement and bring out the best natural acting in their counterparts, which is a skill I don't see in a lot of actresses.

Meanwhile, there are ongoing complaints in some comments on this page that Yoon-ah's looks show an age gap with Chae-min (which is not to be confused with other comments complaining about an actual age gap between actors for FL and ML). What is most important will be the casting as individuals and whether they can complement each other. That said, according to the novel, this tyrant is supposed to be in the 10th year of his reign. It means he is close to 30 years of age.

Meari21 below suggested Li Yitong, which I think would also be apt (and depending on the ML).

I was thinking of Li Yitong for the FL. I found her hilarious in A Dream Within A Dream. She’s also closer in…
I did not watch Legend of Shen Li. I could check it out.

I had a few problems with finishing Dashing Youth. He Yu's character was one of the pluses in it, along with Wen Hujiu and the Eight Young Masters of Beili.

Now that you mention it, Li Yitong could do the FL role, as long as she does not act cutesy. I dropped ADWAD but it wasn't because of her. Killer OST.

He Yu... Has he done anything comedic?

I need some motivation to continue.. I'm stuck at ep18 and wondering why all of them can't catch a break smh
I think the drama should have been two episodes longer, to show more positive elements including expanding on some of the achievements by villagers which were glossed over. That would have made things more bearable and heartening, given the original novel.

You could come over to the MDL k-drama page "Bon Appetit Your Majesty" (also released on Netflix), likely to be this summer's hit for K-dramas? But only two of 12 episodes have been released this far,

Li Yunrui could convey the lethal tyrant part well enough, and I believe under the right main director he might actually be able to suit the comedic timing and expressions. Would depend on the director. There's three possible directors I can think of.

Ding Yuxi would be very suitable. Please suggest a drama I should watch of Li Xian, because I am currently unable to recall anything there?

He Landou can do comedy and awkwardness well enough, as seen in the sneak previews for the movie "Gift From a Cloud" airing in end-August. Her ability to transform from cross-dressing plain insecure whiny royal Jane to a defiant princess in "A Journey To Love" captured my attention. She can be quite attractive, as per her not-yet-released drama 《风满楼》. I could say she reminds me of Martha Plimpton.

I watched Zhang Zifeng in the recent movie "The Shadow's Edge" and she held her own against Tony Leung Ka-fai while making me feel suitably frustrated and sympathetic with her character as a rookie cop while she also developed a convincing parental-child relationship with Jackie Chan despite previous grudges. He Landou and Zhang Zifeng would be very suitable here, because they can turn on and off the necessary.

Xing Fei gave a standout performance for "This Thriving Land", but I don't know how she would do with the comedy.

If you stay away for four more weeks, then you can binge. Do it now, and you can have fun in this comment section.…
If I let the impatience of fans stew for 48 hours, there will definitely be results. Give them time for music and edits and all XD

I think Ding Yuxi will make a great tyrant king, and OMG Ma Qiu Yuan😍!? I didn't realise you knew her! So far,…
Ding Yuxi would definitely work. He had good chemistry with Meng Ziyi in "Love In Pavilion" but Meng Ziyi would not be suitable for this role.

Ma Qiuyuan can act rather well ((I don't know why she was kept so long in micro-dramas, plus I shared what I consider to be her best drama here)) as seen in《桃花马上请长缨》: https://kisskh.at/790870-que-gu#comment-23184462

ML is just pretending or teasing that he actually believes she's a ghost/gwinyeo, right? Especially by the end…
He literally got rid of her handbag in ep 2, so she could never leave. ML is also in self-denial at being attracted to her. Good luck to Gwinyeo of Chef, because she's going to need it by ep 4.

He changed his clothes and they forgot about his arrow wound.
He also never needed to go to the bathroom ever since he fell into the river of mercy and was left flat on the ground at Gil-geum's home, so clearly he has more than magical healing powers. Scriptwriters....

I guess the governor was involved in ML mother banishment and death. So, no need to feel sorry for him.
Thing is, this king is Yeonsangun (even if they changed the name). He is literally the worst monarch in the Joseon dynasty, and his mother was also horrible. I am already feeling conflicted about liking this character and I am wondering how they are going to sanitise him as an individual.

The preview for eps 3 and 4 do more than hint at this tyrant clearly growing more than a liking for Ji-yeong's cooking. But I won't think too much yet. Just want to enjoy the ride.

I admire your ability to abstain. Perhaps you can make a comment another day asking for FMVs to be shared, if you are cool with that. I am sure a lot of frustration from waiting will lead to those XD

Ai Mi is looking very gorgeous in red (a different clip): https://m.weibo.cn/detail/5203443679232554

Let me know if you have already seen these clips of her in red (both the one above and this one is from user Atopos0713_艾米日记 ): https://m.weibo.cn/detail/5203464407224078

I believe Ai Mi is very aware of being in the same situation as Liu Yifei. Liu Yifei was 17 when she filmed "Return Of The Condor Heroes" which is a Jin Yong classic. When it aired in 2006, Jin Yong praised her performance as the closest to his original vision. I was revisiting a few episodes yesterday, and Liu Yifei's performance as Xiao Long Nu absolutely slayed.

Either Ai Mi can pull off a Liu Yifei for this drama, or- I am glad she's having fun and comfortable with her main co-star, because she is under a lot of pressure to do even better than her performance in the Double or anything she's done before.

I hope she gets to watch "Bon Appetit Your Majesty". The first two episodes of that K-drama are hilarious.

I am not the one to complain about age gaps but this is huge.
if you didn't know their ages before watching, would it make a difference in how episodes 1 and 2 impact you?

Edited to add that I am genuinely curious to know, and not throwing shade at you. I ask this because in "The Double" (C-Drama whereby the ML and FL had more than a ten-year age gap but based on the acting and looks), you wouldn't know the ML was significantly younger than the FL because he acted his role very well as a powerful authoritative Duke.

Rewatching ep 2, full of little gems different from episode 1. At 36:32, watching those stuffy old men start having foodgasms is hilarious. Also makes me want to find steak this similar this week.

And I feel sorry for the governor trying to protect his granddaughter. Emotional rollercoaster watching the king and the governor interact.

I hope Gil-geum gets a happy ending. She is an adorable feisty sidekick.

Worldwide popularity doesn't always translate into double-digit ratings on terrestrial TV, but it has a good chance…
I haven't watched a K-drama in years. This is a welcome blast. But waiting for episode 3 and beyond is going to be a mini-torture.

This is a very fun K-drama (loopholes and all) XD If this drama were adapted into C-Ent as a costume drama (but remove the loopholes), I wonder who C-Drama fans would nominate for the equivalent roles of tyrant king Lee Heon, chef Ji-young and consort Mok-Ju.

I'd go with Li Yunrui or Ding Yuxi for the tyrant king, He Landou or Zhang Zifeng for chef Ji-young, and Ma Qiuyuan for consort Mok-Ju.

Consider using the spoiler tag. Too many comments without spoiler tags can result in later watchers not wanting…
The user changed her comment to use spoiler tags, but I don't know when. Perhaps she is new or has learned how to do the necessary. Maybe give her another chance?

BTW, over in Coroner's Diary, the culprits blatantly spoiling everything each episode after episode 10 via multiple comments were not new MDL users (including at least one VIP account). It got to the point that comments started indirectly taking potshots at those users. I haven't figured out how to use the "block" button, but I probably should.
