6 episodes in, are you trying to figure out the politics?
KTTPH is a 古言, not a 古偶. If you expected a historical idol-romance drama, this drama is not written to be that way, which is why "Key to The Phoenix Heart" is getting a lot of praise in China.
If you have watched up to episode 4 and curious about understanding the politics, @PeachBlossomGoddess has provided details under a spoiler tag here:
If you are wondering about the background of the Director, the Main Screenwriter, or the Action Director? Are you wondering what HMH and Ai Mi said about other's acting, before Key to The Phoenix Heart aired? How long did this drama take, to get license for airing?
“Kttph doesn't feel like a typical idol costume drama at all. It reminds me of the historical dramas I watched as a kid over a decade ago.”
“Exactly...it's genuinely telling a story, about people, about the world, about the fate of the realm. I really, really love it.” - “The fight choreography is genuinely impressive, and the actors are clearly doing the action themselves. You can see the dirt and blood smeared across their faces, even the texture of their skin is visible instead of everything being blurred away with heavy beauty filters."
“It gave me the feeling that this is going to be a drama that's genuinely respectful of and empowering toward women.”
If you want to see the praises I consider to be spoilers for anyone who hasn't finished 6 episodes of "Key To The Phoenix Heart", click the link~
So why did you delete "Hidden Love" from your List of Completed Watches? Don't want people to know you gave 9.5 for a drama where the obvious plot point was a minor going for an adult?
You pretending to be a moral justice warrior is disgusting.
honestly, you're the one being disgusting by leaving comments like this lol
Mercy is trolling this page, and Mercy also inspired several of us to speak up on the drama page "Dream of Golden Years" because of how arrogantly unrealistic and ignorant they are. They will drop a drama if there is no kisses, but they said a lot more than that. Context here:
you say you want to move on, why are you keep commenting here?
Oh, it's you! 😃
I've shared with everyone your wonderful comments on "Dream Of Golden Years", plus the thread later in the page where people like you inspired several older viewers to finally vent about people with no self-awareness and no consideration for realism in cultural context:
[ Screen tests for a chemistry read are necessary to identify a suitable replacement-FL option in “Key to The Phoenix Heart”. Whether it is an in-person read or a virtual read (each medium type has different demands for emoting performance), chemistry reads are hugely informative. This crucial step during auditioning is best-defined as the emotional and psychological rapport between two artists, regardless of whether the artists are portraying enemies, buddies, non-platonic partners, or something else complex.
Ai Mi must demonstrate that her acting can qualify for the requirements of creating authentic dynamic relationships, whereby she must gel with the ML as opposed to “performing for herself”. Producers, Directors, and Casting Directors will be looking for an improvisational synergy that feels alive and memorable, in silences, words, plus body language. The balance of individualism, synchronicity, and mirroring will depend on the ability to improvise and complement whoever you are cast against. Ai Mi is recognised within the industry as a 老手 once her resume is seen in its entirety, while international viewers are understandably far more clueless about her. ]
very well said. it’s pointless as they’ve made their stances clear during casting announcement and filming.…
My thoughts are that HMH, in the three roles of the three recent dramas that aired before KTTPH, was cast in roles where his ML is perceived by some viewers as having to embrace emotionally abusive relationship.
You don't have to agree or disagree with me on this POV. But I'm sure a lot of people were not happy with how Rong Shanbao treated Lu Jianglai, the massive amount of lying that Ji Bozai was subjected to but always had to be understanding, and Hong Ye who couldn't change outcomes no matter what he did (and all he did was make the best of what he could).
In "Key To The Phoenix Heart", Xiao Wuyi is not going to have that. I actually prefer MLs who have a healthy relationship, if romance is involved (For me, romance is about emotional connection and maturity). At least in FoF, Zhao Yuanzhou was fine on that emotional front.
That said, I think whoever likes whichever drama(s) of HMH is entitled to whatever they prefer. And there's nothing wrong with that.
If you want to understand @daphchan's full context of comments about KTTPH:On the KTTPH article page, they also…
1) The NRTA gave the airing license for this drama in under 3 months. If you include post-production time, "Key To The Phoenix Heart" obtained its airing license in less than 2.5 months. That's a record for a longform historical costume C-drama.
2) The poster has also deleted "Hidden Love" from their list of Completed Dramas, after seeing my entire comment. @daphchan is a liar masquerading as a "moral justice warrior".
you say you want to move on, why are you keep commenting here?
Mercy is the comment flouncer at "Dream Of Golden Years" who helped inspire a thread of older C-Ent viewers finally losing our patience with viewers like them. 16 episodes in, they expected the main leads to have smoochy kisses from a drama... set in the 1980s of China
By now, Mercy is obviously trolling this drama page of "Key To The Phoenix Heart".

The amount of rubbish in the MDL News article comment section for KTTPH is monumentally stupid, hypocritical, and delusional. We have everything from someone pretending to be a Hou Minghao fan while dissing all his FLs before Esther Yu, the bold-faced liar I pointed out above, the age-gap hypocrite who likes older females with males but not the other way around, a fan of another general in a drama *coughsunrealisticheadressplusfoundation* that didn't like what I pointed out after pretending they were not really into THAT drama but gave it at least 9.0 (and then blocked me)- The level of stupidity combined with arrogance is tedious, but I got a lot of laughs 😆😆😆

@daphchan also gave 9.5 to a SK drama "Hidden Love", where an obvious plot involves a minor falling in love with an adult.

[ Very unrealistic. If it continues. I will drop it.] - Mercy
Mercy expected a drama set in the 1980s of China to have PDA. OMG.
I also pointed out what Mercy clearly doesn't know about ancient China:
