Yes, actually I already suspicious that those are hater talk. But it makes my friend think that IS is indeed bad. So annoying. The acting is very good in this drama. Xianxia is more or less the same with each other, this a well known fact. What the use of moaning this now? Majority of drama nowadays are novel adaptation. Those novel are the ones that similar to each other to begin with.
Also, for xianxia lover, it is so rare to have xianxia drama with good acting and big budget. All xianxia has angst and in every those popular dramas either FL or ML always came short. The only ML that I can satisfied with is only Cheng Yi all these years. For the FL, I can only barely accepted Zhao Dong Yu from Ancient Love Poetry. The other is either too stiff or just not have the suitable looks for xianxia. I am so happy IS can settle both Cheng Yi and Yang Zi. Those people talk as if we are overload with good xianxia for the past decade.
They are calmer indeed. But as far as I know, they are also silent. I read that they are not promoting this drama but promoting other Yang Zi drama instead. Playing in xianxia is not easy. Lots of actor/actress out there failed spectacularly, making their drama looked so ugly and unwatchable. You need a certain poise, gesture, body language, and elegance including in your way of walking to be able to pull of xianxia. I will not dare to say my idol is an expert in xianxia with only 1 xianxia drama in her belt. Just because there are lots of bad xianxia drama out there, doesn't mean the genre itself is at fault.
Moreover, people said that xianxia is predictable with lots of angst. Well, this is in a way true. But just how many actor/actress out there can pull off a believable angst without making the audience cringe??
People also said that Cheng Yi is typecasted. While in a way this is also true, in some way it hones his skill in angst to such never-seen-before-perfection. I read in douban forum where people commented that his acting skill has improved ever since L&R. And I tend to agree with them. Those scenes in episode 9 - 11 are perfection. Such detail and grace!

I just want to warn you with the talk about Yang Zi being forced. I was here in this forum page ever since the beginning. There was a lot of bad comment from Yang Zi fans regarding her partaking in this drama. The debate back then was not pretty at all, and the leftover of bad blood still remain until now. I don't understand why people discredit xianxia. Every popular actress nowadays, get popular because of them starring in xianxia. Zhao Li Ying starred in The Journey of Flower. Yang Mi starred in Ten Miles Peach Blossom. Even Yang Zi herself got so popular, I think after she starred in Ashes of Love. What is wrong with doing this kind role again? Do you think just because your previous role is so successful then you are already an expert so will not do the same thing again? I can understand actor/actress desire to try any type of character. The pace is indeed fast but the script is good enough, added by good acting from both leads. Thus, we can see their relationship budding bit by bit. I think their love is quite believable up to now. At the start, Ying Yuan only think that Yan Dan is good seed worth to be nurtured by him. Yan Dan just think of him as annoying sovereign lord. But, we can see that they attracted by each other little by little and getting more and more comfortable with each other.
I can completely understand why someone like Yan Dan will finally fall to Ying Yuan. Despite his quirk, Ying Yuan is kind and benevolent lord. In a way, he is very pure. It is no wonder someone like Yan Dan will admire him and finally fall for him. On the other hand, Ying Yuan has tighter control over his emotion. But, then he get poisoned and dying, not to mention very stressed. His control is in tatter, thus finally he let himself "go".
