ghosts/demons/zombies? they have NOTHING on this! serial killers? they are a laughing stock! this was so scary, so heartbreaking, so DEVASTATING!

I watched this after seeing my mdl friends' reaction and I was not disappointed, but I do regret this so much. will this change anything? or will people label it as a dramatic "entertainment" and move on?

I thought what would be the worse that could happen? Joon Ho dying? Han Ho Yul, the sweet little breath of fresh air in dramaland character? but no, it was much much worse, even if I thought Seok Bong dying would be horrible that scene! that extra ending scene?! the writer/director is CRUEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

having my own mental struggles with life this did not help and I had to take a break but I made the mistake of going back and now I'm forever scared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
after a while until around ep4 I thought the ending of ep1 was the worst one, that character who's name I can't even remember, sitting sadly regretting his choice but not finding another escape. that was heartbreaking but THAT ENDING SCENE! MY HEART BROKE
eps 5 and 6, agh those two eps were so cruel. bullying was heartbreaking and disgusting but to break a sweet gentle soul like that? to break all of those sweet innocent people? FOR WHAT! WHY! why were they like that? tradition? it gets passed over? WHY!

bullying "less sever" than what happened there is still heartbreaking. removing someone's smile is heartbreaking, like if there's someone who's excited about the silliest thing and yet they want to share that with you and you go "that's your hobby? so silly/childish" and it ruins that person's happiness and that's HEARTBREAKING yet that's so "simple"
but to go and physically and mentally abuse people?WHY, why isn't it a crime! murder, thievery, BULLYING fits in those categories!

on a less dramatic side, the ost was so my style but dang it did not fit the heartbreaking mood, like I would listen to those songs if I didn't know about this drama

the hard life of pretty people..

basically the story revolved around girls hating girls because they were prettier or and the ugly girl that hanged out with them..
honestly every guy only looked at 3 girls, so they chased them and belittled other girls, then the remaining girls hated the "pretty" girls and the "ugly" friend becasue they were jealous..

their plot line literally revolved around 2 things that were repeated over and over again; 1-boys used girls to get the pretty girls (even their main lead!), 2- the not pretty girls got jealous and hated on each other for shallow reasons..

the friendship between the 2 mains was explained, after a loooong series of misunderstandings, but the other 2 girls just randomly stuck with them. it was like sure the other "not pretty" girls wanted to be their friends and use them so the pretty girls got "outcasted" by choice, but they too chose the other pretty girls becasue they knew they didn't want to use them since they were pretty too...
that's such a nonsensical logic...

even the misunderstanding around the 2 fls started by jealous 3rd parties... it's so hilarious. every girl was like "you're too ugly to be yuna's friend" and started hurting their friendship until both believed it too, instead of talking it out.

I'm most disappointed by the fact that this was written by "it's okay to be sensitive" and "When You Love Yourself". for a story about sismance it revolved alot on girls hating girls just becasue they're "pretty"...
atleast it wasn't romance centered, and 1 side romance was sweet and the other loser left.

though again the way that 1 good romance developed was because the girl got jealous cuz they guy was too friendly with a clingy girl... after chasing her and telling her he likes her, he goes and let a girl kiss him then he gets angry at the girl he likes ;/

anyway, shallow writing with basic "acting"

Worst premier

Mdl has two features , one is the “My” drama list, and I have a resolution to review anything I watch and drop
Another is the fact that reviews are marked as dropped and which ep it is

So everyone reading this understand that I only watched 2eps and I decided to drop
Why?

In 2025, January alone, I started 15+ dramas, I have finished 8 of them and some I loved while others were basic but each one had its own charms

And so this felt sooooo lacking, it’s the worst premier, the first ep was so uneventful and boring for a zombie drama that only has 8eps
It’s even boring for a romcom

Then the cgi, and dumbness explodes in ep2… a car accident happens and we have the fl acting like and annoying hyper aggressive idiot asking ppl for help
Like girl just call the cops yourself..
Then comes the idol and ppl care for him more than the accident? Someone makes fun of the “victim” and takes pictures of his posture?
And then they try to pull him out of the windshield????
Like who does that?

Then with the plane crash, it’s obviously a civil flight and people don’t panic for the crash but instead say “is that a terrorist attack”

Happiness, all of us are dead, train to busan, and yes one can defend this as a comedy but, The odd family Zombie for sale is a comedy and that’s my favorite zombie theme
Even zom 101 was better, and that had the most ridiculous zombie shark with feet xD

This felt as flat as #alive mixed with the stupidity of chicken nuggets
Like why were the zombies so ridiculous and cheesy looking with that cheap cgi xD

Anyway yeah,
characters = 0
Plot = 0
Time management = 0
So it’s my first drop of 2025

uneventful

another "too slow" plot that doesn't really need 12eps

The scene where she was a kid and the dragon was a man is indeed super creepy...
Atleast he could’ve fallen as a boy

for a story about ghosts, dragons, snakes wanting to be dragons, 8ft long ghosts, and grudges, it's so dull
Anyway so the queen mama is killing his offsprings cuz her kids didn’t become kings ?
And she’s jealous he actually loves his first wife, we don’t know if he has side chicks
and queens dad is also involved

honestly the ghosts are all so mellow, and they don't leave but they don't do anything much too

That was underwhelming, I’ve said it since ep2, this didn’t need this many eps, 4eps max

There are also two things I hate, everyone getting unfortunate events but everything else works out just fine even after 10eps of “dread”
The second thing I hate is the fl wanting to sacrifice herself to stop the guy from sacrificing himself for her, when the two idiots could’ve just used their two powers together and finished it off
“I can’t live without you”😴 how dare you sacrifice yourself and want to leave me in a world without you”

Even my mom was like just marry the king and move on and we were waiting for atleast the old guys daughter to marry the king

the oppa was hot, but the plot was not

they really need to stop making webtoons into dramas. usually webtoons are more cheesy, ridiculous and brainless

Yoo Yeon Seok did a great acting job portraying a toxic cold ml with a "secret soft heart", the fl was plainer than white paper and the overall dramatic events were too cheesy to continue

I'm dropping this just like how the producers dropped jisoo

1st story wise, tbh beside the FL I think the story was repetitive and the 20eps were pushing it. they kinda just took the usual backstory of the ML and made it the FL's story. SHE was the lost princess with the horrible dad king, there was nothing new, but it gave the FL a chance to be something more than the love interest.

and kim sohyun was the perfect choice I can't imagine someone else as her. but with that I also can't get over jisoo as Dal, I personally HATE actor changes and bellow this part I shall rant in peace so whoever is looking for a fight, or want to twist people's words then please don't read past this

I hate how some people say fans are stupid for being hurt over an actor they never met/that doesn't know they exist, but this is so like what happened in veronica mars s4.
I just loved the characters so much, and I loved the series then they went ahead and stabbed the fans and the other cast with their choices, they sabotaged the true core of veronica and they disregarded one of their most important actors' hard work just for the sake of "suspense" and most probably money..

here, they didn't drop jisoo becasue of his past deeds but they did it for the sake of the ratings and the money. and the rest of the fans of the other cast are so ready to show they never cared for jisoo or anyone beside their favs.
everyone is acting like everything is ok, as if one's hardwork is more than the other

I'm in no way defending jisoo's past actions, but if they really cared for the victim's, they should deal with this in a bigger scale.
you can't fight bullying with bullying and now jisoo is the target for so many people.
some say "deformation" is a huge crime in korea, but as a long time idol fan I've seen so many false rumors regarded as the truth just becasue they were posted online.
just one anonymous post on a shabby site like koreanboo can ruin people's reputation and even if the truth comes out no one cares.

and in turn the idol bullying scene is just as bad as the school bullying which just proves the whole system needs to change. bullying should be a crime with consequences.. and that includes cyber bullying that targets the celebrities.

people need to pay a price and try to work on themselves. I've seen so many ugly things thrown at jisoo, even the actress Park Hye Soo addressed how easily her past got twisted and the ones who bullied her are now back to play the victims.
it's not always the case, I'm not disregarding victims but spreading non proven facts doesn't make it real or ok to share..

anyway, ep7 aired and the 1st thing people care about is rating or how their own favs are doing, so I can't take this double standard bias... they made jisoo the villain that ruined the staffs hard work and now they're working for free

I'm really sad over this, I love both jisoo and sohyun as actors and this was a dream casting for me. no matter what, jisoo has worked hard on his career, he always got side tracked or ended in low projects that this was his big break. and I can't see anyone else pull of Dal like him.
and I'm not hating on the other actor... and I watched part of ep7 but I just can't. it's such a huge difference...
they should've killed him off, I HATE actor changes it just takes away from the character, I even hate anime voice actor changes. it feels unnatural.
and they could've brought the new actor as a new character who is a general in the palace. there could've been so many better solution.
but mostly I wish this was preproduced. as a fan of the characters and the art form my feelings are valid

I hope no one comes at this and attacks me for whatever reason they want to twist this into. be kind and let me vent my valid sadness in peace ;D

I really loved kim sohyun in this, I'll forever keep her as one of my favorite female characters and maybe once things are cleared out and sorted I'll come back and watch this with a lighter heart

if someone wants to starts this, or they still didn't finish it, then I highly recommend the 36 episode vr.. basically this went through 3 stages,
the overly cliche mean girl/nice guy light romcom = 7
the middle part that should've been the ending which was around ep20? = 10
and the last draggy part, literally the last 8 eps were the same = 1 but since there is a cut vr I won't count this
the end = 7?
so I guess that rounds it all to 8? 7.5? ;)
it didn't need 20 (40)eps, it would been perfect if it ended by ep 16 (32)...

my rewatch values are either a 1 or a 10...

ok I think my short interpretation of this would be a modern 21st century love story that is still stuck in a cliche mold?
their relationship/chemistry feels natural and they dealt with the fan thing as best as they could (the best thing would've been no fan-to-lovers, but oh well)

the families are booorring and unfitting, I do not care for them one bit.

and I don't really care for the male friendship, even the bromance feels flat.. I don't get why or how they are friends, they just feel like 3 people that are in the same space. also the fact that they didn't give the fl any sort of friendship or family is alarming ;/

so the worst point of this is the super duper cliche arc they used for the fl! the drunk pity party that makes the guy fall for her weak "cute" side, the "it's all my fault everyone hates me!", the "I've never dated before becasue I am a sad unworthy person", the fact that she bickers back with everyone and then suddenly becomes docile is just bad writing...
in ep2 she was answering back to every criticism her boss told her as if they were friends and now she's the weak silent victim to the crazy boss who's randomly out to get her ;/
and then the ml is being possessive already? "don't drink with other me becasue you look cute".. you don't own her ;/

the worst sign is when I skip an ep and I don't feel like I missed anything, I didn't realize I didn't watch ep3 until ep4 was over and I was looking for the next ep xD
I personally have a rule, I give dramas 1/4 a chance and if I don't like them I drop

When dramaland gives you a gem but not all gems are diamonds

In life you won’t always get the lemon, you won’t always get what you wish for
But you can still appreciate and enjoy the tangerine

Be happy with what you gain, love, family, health, money
Every step builds the happiness you live in
It can also be metaphorical in the sense of tangerines being a “jeju” trademark, a “country side” when people craved the shiny city lemons
and since tangerines are sweet, you worry about having them right after a sour moment, or having too much of it

spoiling your kids can have as much negatives as neglecting them would
Ae Sun couldn't study and persuade her dreams, that's why she overcompensated with her daughter, and even though it's a blessing, it was also a burden for Geum Myeong, as an eldest daughter, as the first woman in her family to study and work in an office
Gwan Sik had to do extreme jobs and compromise his health to care for his family, even though Ae Sun did help him and support him too, but they didn't want their son to suffer so Eun Myeong felt too sheltered and he thought he was incompetent

I don’t want extraordinary or extravagant dramas, I’m picky and hate halfhearted attempts

The first ep alone felt like a movie, full of emotions, happiness and heartache
The 2nd ep felt familiar; have I seen that exact plot move before? Running away and getting robbed
The 3ep was a rollercoaster, will they achieve their dreams? Are their dreams really what they seem? Is getting married a sacrifice?
and it continues on, but the second half and some of the events around Geum Myeong's love life felt draggy

I feel like I could write a longer review to talk about all the elements but I'll keep it breif

IU is so cute and such an amazing actor, PBG reflects the adorkable nature very well and the young actors did an amazing job representing them too

aesun is just a kid but because of her moms love and her love for her daughter and the support of gwansik, she stands up for the people she loves harder than she’d stand up for herself
she looked selfish cuz she questions the adults, but she never acted unless her family was targeted

Gwansik was raised in a loud controlling house that he’s always quiet but aesun sparkles his drive to act and in the small moments, he’d take up pain for his family, change the “norms” for his family, remember what they love and he was also never afraid to point out the wrongs of the adults

She was going to leave her stepfather but she stayed for her siblings, she wanted to leave the country side but she stayed for gwansik, she wanted to let him go but she knew he loved her as much as she loved him, she stayed in the kitchen she hated but she left once her baby was targeted
She gave up her dreams because she found bigger happiness in her family, honestly that’s beautiful

And gwansik never defied his gramma and mom, but they were just crazy. It takes two in a marriage, the rest are just support
The gramma keeps saying the mom is a bad “daughter in law” so if she can’t do her “duties” she sure shouldn’t force more on her own DIL and expect her own son to stay quiet when she’d wanted his support

In who is she, the fl spends her life regretting her lost dream, regretting her failed marriage eventho she couldn’t have controlled it, she hated living life just for her daughter and always craved what she lost
Here, aesun never blames her daughter, she doesn’t regret her choices, sure having support makes a big difference, support of her husband, but still life is hard you should always appreciate what you gain and not what you lost

I kept dragging the last ep cuz I didn’t want it to finish but I also didn’t wanna be disappointed

Overall I do feel like there was something missing in the writing, the pace and development didn’t feel smooth enough
The time skips did increase too much in the middle, they’d show the past, present, future, past past and so one

Actingwise everyone did a beautiful job
but the writing could've been better, it was too "tearjerker", her mom died at 29, her youngest kid died just when she walked away for a minute, her husband died at 55..

I think of aesun as more of my grandma rather than mom and Geum Myeong as my mom, so it makes me understand them more
though it is also effected by cultural differences, but it also made me wish they added a bit more of the current generation and the "grandkids" cuz i think aesun would've dotted on her grandkids and they'd have loved and adored her more too
I also don't understand her being around 70 and living alone, not with her daughter or even son...
in the last ep i thought Geum Myeong turned into aesun's mom and short haired iu was the granddaughter xD

It won’t hurt anyone if I gave this a 10~ my last drama completed in 2023

It slowed and repeated a bit in a couple of eps, but the acting, the acting, and the acting were amazing
The development, the progress and the process, and ending were all great
Most shows take the shortcut and end it at places like the boast deck, things aren’t wrapped up or explained

There are many monsters in this world, but hope will prevail

I don’t blame taekssi for how he got, but the fact that he didn’t kill the wife/child, and he kept his pure heart was :)

He still wanted to rid the world of that monster, he was broken once that he didn’t trust his words so he got broken twice and he wanted to “lash out”, but still his heart was too soft and hyuksoo was wrong, not everyone can turn into a monster

I’m glad cherrie and sana lived, I’m glad the wife believed everything and loathed her husband. Small details and small parts for women, but each shined well

This has more content than most 20ep dramas xD

+ I liked the girls, I mean this could be considered a female centered plot though the evil guys were practically a village
+ the dream vs reality was a cool concept
+ the last ending scene was interesting

- the mystery crime was lacking, ALOT
- the evil guys felt like random people they found on an island, and tbh fey's dad's face gives me nightmares ;D
- lack of romance (though it didn't need it as aya said) but her and cop guy would've been a cute couple
- everyone was either raped or committed suicide ;/

as a mystery genre it felt lacking, and the quality seems like a 2012 production with the cheap filming and aesthetics

There's something detaching about this. I love the actors, i love the fl, but the characters all just feel like characters on a set just playing a role

Acting: 100/10
It’s better to have 10 mains than 10 time wasting side characters

Plot: 7/10
Sad story done before

Process: 4/10
The revelations were annoying, each ep felt episodic but each one added more to the pile
then ep5 and things are connected but then ep6 again goes in another direction and boom last ep everything is resolved

Time management: 3/10
Some things didn’t need that long of an introduction and some things were resolved so vaguely
The mom/daughter one was the most touching

I always say mdl needs a “progress, plot movement” for the rating divisions instead of just “story”
The story was touching, nothing new, but the time management was bad

Overall amazing cast, beautiful acting, touching and sad stories, but the editing and flow was a mess
They could’ve reached their point in a more linear way rather than continuously jump from one pov to another
Some things didn’t need that long of an introduction and some things were resolved so vaguely

’m the type of person that hates “tutorials”, I skip the long explanations and I like to learn as the plot goes by
You can branch out but this was a spiral, jumping back and forth

Overall amazing cast, beautiful acting, touching and sad stories, but the editing and flow was a mess

They could’ve reached their point in a more linear way rather than continuously jump from one pov to another

I feel like each story was ok in their own but together the mom/daughter one was the most touching, that story overshadowed them all

they did go overboard with the mom being the lightshop guys daughter and tbh eventho I was tearing up, I had to laugh

The bus lovers:
Tbh the story felt like another movie, the bus stop, going to his house, and I don’t remember much but it was called spellbound
It was kinda annoyingly silly to have her kill herself so quickly when she was going to leave him and for her to believe the text of literally the mom who told her to leave
Also, why did the mom say that? That was dramatic for nothing and eyeroll worthy

Mom/daughter:
Heartbreaking

Red shoes:
Meh, especially since bus lover killed herself for love, then goes and tells him to go back and gets sad about it and he remembers nothing
then they add another lovers and let her “stay behind”, like they should’ve just added that to the bus lovers, she killed herself for him, he decides not to go back to be with her…

Basketball boy:
Sweet that he saved the boy, but again something was off about the flow and the presence of the characters

Like they were connected by the bus, but then they still add the dog guy and the detective that weren’t connected to that one story
So overall the editing lacked

Ending?

It took them long enough, tbh for me the only way to stop the games would be exposure, but the plot twist would just make the games more popular and powerful

And so, I do think it lacks in development, we get a bit of attempt to finish the games, by one person against an army

And tho they attempted in making his own army, they were useless and not enough at all

I did appreciate the change in games, and even the last round felt like a game of make believe “paintball game”
Tho I found the extreme connections ridiculous, a mom and son, ex lovers, friends, a dude one saw in her job…
Unless the game master chose them to add more drama in the game xD so they’re not just after desperation and death, but also writing dramatic stories xD

I highly appreciate their use of multiple versatile actors and added new cute breakthroughs

Tho character wise everyone was dumb, sure they were desperate enough for money, and actually the X vs Os added better drama

But they weren’t just playing one more round, they were hoping more people died
And they moved super fast from “we’re not the ones killing”, to “let’s murder everyone and stay in the game that’ll kill us

Anyways, for me squid game is like a prequel to a dystopian future, the ml should’ve written a book, threw hints that the games are real, so instead of his gang actual ppl would search for the hot guy in suit that slapped ppl

Then ppl like tops character would be extreme enthusiasts
Like adrenaline junkies

And slowly the games would become public, no one can stop it cuz “ppl are the ones joining” whether out of desperation or seeking the thrill

And so ml would go crazy knowing he exposed the games to a bigger audience xD

Another thing, I wished ml showed more emotion, for example he should go crazy and scream about how dirty money is, and how bad greed is, and they’d try to shoot him for interfering with the votes and someone steps in😆

I like it, I thought the 1ml was the food guy and he was soooo bland, but I mean all 6 are somewhat equal but book guy is sooo cute😆

Idk if I’m lagging to like a red flag, but the other two are so beige🙂 but they all have their issues

Like police dude saying “i wanna know everything about my future partner” then goes and says cute fl “talks too much about herself”

Tho it’s ironically accurate cuz if ppl stay single that long, there must be some baggage, we’ve become too comfortable alone, dreading a coexistence, yet not wanting to be lonely
The men are all huge red flags, not moving away from the first no🤡 like it takes them five “no” to stop🤡
Ml went from sweetly saying he’ll wait for any touch for max 3 years, and only touch her finger cuz she asked, to not move when she changed her mind?

And the women all have severe anger issues 🤡 it’s been like a week for all and they already want unlimited devotion?
