It’s a mix of both. China has a massive population it needs to account for, along with the fact that like most Asian countries, it only rather recently (in terms of history compared to the west) became an economic powerhouse. Distribution of money also works slightly different as compared to the USA for example.
The greedy however exist all over the world, but the main difference is that China takes it a lot more seriously. In the US, celebrities can evade taxes all they want without media coverage or repercussions just cause they have the money. In china however, celebrity scandals are dealt with quickly because the government needs to make an example out of them.
This is just surface, simplified reasons. It goes a lot deeper in terms of the social behaviors.

I really do like the pair of ML's brother and his crush. They should have just rewritten the romance for ML out and kept this secondary romance pair as the "main romance sub-plot". We would have gotten better pacing and better romance at once lol.
Honestly though, I do think overall the show has just been getting better since the rougher start, despite Yang Yan's lack of screen time >:(
My friend’s parents still deny the existence of mental health. She avoided therapy until it got too much and is finally going covertly because that’s just how Asian society is. Why isn't the crown princess our female lead? What is up with most cdramas and their obsession with writing juvenile/immature female leads? Haven't directors realized yet that the shows which do well have female leads who aren't whiny and annoying? I liked the FL actress in New Life Begins, so this is purely just a script/characterization thing.
Granted, we haven't seen much of her yet, and everyone loves a good underdog story. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt for now but the transformation by the end better be good.

Hopefully we get a season 3 though, or else they just pulled a Hollywood by ending us on a cliffhanger without plans to actually... end the narrative.
