My Jdrama journey started over 10 yrs ago. I had been watching Taiwanese dramas and I wanted to expand my cultural view on Asian dramas. I stumbled upon Proposal Daisakusen and enjoyed what I saw so I proceeded to watch more. One thing that really, drew me to Jdramas was the length of the episode seasons. It ensured I would have be wasting time with filler episode, which was a blessing.
My tip to newcomers would be to expand their genres when going into jdramas. You might not like the romance based dramas but you could really get a kick out of mystery based dramas. And the good thing about jdramas is that they are not afraid to delve into things that are unacceptable in society.
The only problem I have with Filipino dramas is being able to find them with English subtitles. Fortunately, I have been able to watch some Filipino movies but it is few and far between because of subs.
I've been waiting to see what you would do for her. And you did not disappoint. I like yourself hope you do not have to write anymore of these this year.
Yeah the main romance in My Golden Life was so good but that was the only thing I enjoyed. The grandpa was the…
I didn't care about the main romance in My Golden Life so I was looking for the side stories to keep me entertained. It failed. In addition, there was a cancer storyline. I'm so sick of the cancer storyline that involves a parentally figure. It is lazy writing because instead of coming up with good story line for older characters they pop in a cancer story.
I've watched 'My Father is Strange', 'Five Enough', 'Smile, You' and have really enjoyed them. For weekend dramas, I usually skimmed through episodes to watch the storylines that I care about because seriously some storylines are not worth my time due to the lack of compelling writing. My Golden Life was disappointing to me, because I was hoping that the side characters would have well fleshed out stories but no that was only reserved for Park Shi Hoo and Shin Hye Sun's characters.
Thank for the article, I love Taiwanese dramas, Been watching them for over a decade. Mars and Autumn's Concerto are some of my personal favorites that I've watched multiple times.
Since, I tend to watch dramas from other countries, the financial disparity is lessened. You did touch on something I've been thinking about... 2FLs and how 2FL's are represented vs 2MLs. 2FL tend to get the short end of the stick personality-wise in dramas. Why can't they be 'good' girls who also wants the lead ? Why can't they move on once the ML rejects them ? In Mars (Taiwanese drama) once the ML let the 2FL( a friend of his) know that her attack on the FL was unacceptable and he was cutting her off. The 2FL got her act together and was one of the FL's advocates. It was suspicious at 1st but she was true in her intentions.
Totally love this article !!! It is everything I think and more. Currently, I am watching Find Yourself and the SML has shown himself to be selfish and underhanded in order to get the one he 'loves.' This kind of characteristic in a character is one I despise and I'm glad at the end he came to realize she was never going to love him in the way, he thought she would.
My second watch in Asian dramaland was Boys over Flowers and man did I get SLS big time! At that time I declared…
I believe the reason you did not get t SLS when you watched the Japanese version, Hana yori Dango, was because the producer's goal was not to set up a encompassing love triangle but to tell a concise story with limited amount of episodes. I find that romance based Korean dramas (and some others) tend to spend way to much time wrapping the story around a love triangle instead of flushing out all the characters and giving the audience a well-rounded romance in which the characters are growing relationally and individually. This fact is the reason, I rarely watch Kdramas anymore. I can't say anything about the Chinese version because I have never watched it.

I'll look into Family's Honor
