Thank you for the explanation above !!!! Love does come unexpectedly and unfortunately a lot of drama writers don't get it nor know how to write a good love story without throwing in a love triangle to pad out time.

I will check out "Unrequited Love". I really liked "Weightlifting Fairy" because it choose to step out of the box.

What do you mean by "especially someone that are meant for them in every way possible" ?

About the "supportive" character. My take is they are usually manipulative using the FL to further their agenda. Their agenda being "showing" and "telling" the FL "how better they are to than ML".

Unfortunately, I find respect a rare 2L trait . I wish more dramas respected us enough to have characters that respected each other in that way. I generally avoid love triangle dramas.

Yes !!! Finally what I've been saying !!! If she does not like you leave her alone !!! The 2ML acts like he knows better than the FL about what she wants. It's her choice and her choice is not you !!!

If a 2nd female lead was acting the same way that 2nd male lead was acting. People would call her a psycho. Talk about double standards.

hmm.. Bongsoon was only physically strong but I dont know if she was mentally smart... and her physical strength…
Thank you tomorrow today !!! That is what I've been saying. Strong females are strong mentally, they don't need the physically strength (which they could have) to be strong. Her physical strength do us no good in the drama. She fights but does not make the world better with that strength, it is still mainly about her. I wished they pulled a Peter Parker scenario (with great strength comes responsibility) then we would have seen her grow beyond herself.

Yes, I agree with everything in this article. My first Korean drama did not have a love triangle so imagine my…
Thank you for this. I was just having a discussion about this and like you I'm sick of lazy writing "covered up" by using love triangles.

I liked all the actors in this drama but the script fell short with too many story lines for a 16 show. If it was a 24 episode show or more the story lines would have time to be flushed out and emotions explored.

In all, the drama was okay. In the future, I would like to see the whole cast together in a better written flushed out drama.

Thank you for this post. I watched The Vigilantes in Masks and loved it. The way the 4 main characters play off of each other is great. Would highly recommend it for people who want something light and serious at the same time. Loved it !!!

This drama had so much potential but it dropped the ball, with the script. I had to quit after 5 episodes. I originally gave it a pass on the 1st episode because it was the 1st episode and they are usually trying to find their feet. But as time passed I kept wondering when things were going to get better. Yanuo does not act like a person whose life depends on her keeping her identity a secret. To me, she makes a half-assed attempt. The problem lies with the way her interactions with Zi Feng are written which are awkward and forced to say the least. The drama has Yanuo putting herself in situations that will expose her (purposefully by the writers ?) and those attempts just felt cheap. Things didn't happen naturally like it would in a real life setting. The characters were just put together to make a story without real ties and a lot of exposition. Seriously, how many times have we seen the sharing bedroom stint done ?..HUNDREDS.

I've seen this similar plot done tons of times before and better. They should have taken a note from Coffee Prince on how to write and act out different relationships, especially gender bending bromances.

Having said that I would like to see the 2 main leads again in a better scripted show.

I totally agree with you. Coffee Prince is the exception though.

This drama wasn't bad but I had to drop it. One of those reasons was the length of the drama. It should have shorter, 84 episodes is too long for a drama that runs over 30 mins per episode. It just felt like things were being dragged out and I just stopped caring.

Another point of annoyance for me was the whole family aspect. I have watched dramas with families before but gosh this family was too into each others business. The grandma, though loving, was annoying. Manipulating them to get married and so forth. I know it is cultural to have parental involvement but this left me feeling like the children would not have a clue how to manage their own lives if their elders were gone.

All the characters of this drama performed their part to the tee (excellently). The only issue I had with drama was the whole casino story line. The female lead had an issue with gambling due to her father and the main character wants to open a casino. I felt they sort of swept the whole issue under the rug by not dealing with the gambling issue like it needed to be dealt with. In fact they did not deal with the issue with her mother's death and the issue with her father gambling away medicine money.

It was almost like the writers were saying that if someone you fall in love is involved in something you find moral reprehensible you should ignore it because that someone is nice and cares about you. And that is just ridiculous.

Imagine someone you are in love with is involved in ...slave trading, but he uses the money from the sale of slaves to benefit the community. Does that make what he is doing okay ? No, because in real life, when someone chooses to "get over" the moral issues they have (which is what everyone in this drama is telling the female lead to do), it eventually ends up destroying the relationship and demoralizing the individual in the process.

I know the "moral issue" in the drama is not as serious as slavery but you get my drift.

Really like this drama. I have been on a drama slump and nothing I've watched perked my interest. I really like that this drama decided to focus on second chance love and I rooted for the MC . The second leads here sort of reminded me of lakorn second leads or telenovela second leads to a lesser extent), always trying to push their "love" on people who don't want it. Anyway great drama and I would recommend it to a mature watcher.
