Can you explain what makes current korean dramas more western? The reason why Netflix is trying to produce it's…
Thank you fireflower !!! I also agree. I don't think they are getting more western. The are still using the same formulas. I started watching kdramas in the early 2000s and I know it is not dramas that have changed, it is me. That is why I can't watch reruns of old American shows/kdramas that I used to watch. I'm not the same person I was back then.

I do know, but I've seen other dramas rework those parts better
True. But for me, not being able to use the time travel messed the drama up. The book also does a wonderful job showing why she left Yan Xun and his dissent into paranoia. If I really think about it we could have done without the drama. The book is very well written in comparison.

I would recommend you skip dramas for a while and watch movies. It is a way better way to invest your time. I lost interest in KDramas a long time ago. And I've not gone back. Once in awhile I will watch an Asian drama ( a short one) but I really get my satisfaction from watching Asian movies because they are short and sweet. No need to waste hours of your time when you can pick and drop a movie with less emotional investment.

Any good turkish shows you can recommend?
Watched practically all of Erkenci Kus and my heart hurts at what it could have been.

Haven't watched Ibrahim before. I have watched a little bit of Kiralik Ask w/o subtitles but haven't delved in. I'll look into Ask Laftan Anlamaz and Black and White ( hope they have "happy endings"). Netflix had Love Bird but didn't watch because the description stated they were cousins and I don't do dramas where family get romantically involved (excluding stepfamily).

Any good turkish shows you can recommend?
Will have to get back to you on the recommendations. After the mess the writers made of Erkenci Kus. I have decided to wait until Turkish dramas end before starting to watch them. Once Benim Tatli Yalanim is done I'll watch it if it ends well. There is also a new drama "My Home " coming out in Feb 2020 with Demet Ozdemir and İbrahim Çelikkol that I am excited about but as stated above won't watch until it ends. As for the older dramas that are already finished, I currently am not in the mindspace to watch them. Maybe sometime in the future. Do you have any recommendations ?

I so agree with your choice of Gook Seung Hyeon from Cunning Single Lady. I hated his character's guts so much. She was never going to choose him but instead of having common sense he and his sister acted like they owned the ML and FL.

I excuse Kim Do Jin from A Gentleman's Dignity because it was earlier on in the drama and he and his crew had a lot of learning to do.

I lost interest in Kdramas a long time ago (over 5 yrs ago) and I'm pretty sure it is not coming back. Maybe it's because I'm older now and not willing to put up with certain kinds of dramas anymore. I've heard of the dramas above and can't even gather the energy to want to watch them. As of now, I watch about 0-2 kdramas a year. They are usually not from the current year. I mainly watch Thai, Turkish and Chinese dramas with a dash of Japanese and Filipino movies.

I do believe that if you want to entice the audience you should recommend older Kdramas (early 2000s and back). They were much better.

While writing this article, I really avoided second male leads classified under 'second lead syndrome', but concentrated…
I disagree, just because he was there for her does not mean that he deserves a chance with her. Imagine someone stating that because they did all these things for you they deserve to date you or that you should choose them instead. You would look at them like they were crazy.

Haha, I hope that's a good thing xD
It is. After watching a good drama/movie I tend to want to bust out and write a good essay on motifs, symbolism and etc. because of the richness of the content.
