An interesting story with fantastic actors, but it unfortunately liked substance. The content was good and it had me thoroughly unsettled, but I just couldn't connect with the characters or the storyline. Perhaps it was because it was a movie instead of a series, but I kept waiting for the background that would give me something to hold onto and it never came.
Decent watch, but left me feeling detached and lost.
It doesn't matter. Any 'deviation' from the norm for CCP's censors is a subject to censorship. Besides there was…
Many speculate that the reason China still allows some of these adaptations to air is money. They frankly bring in a lot of revenue, as well as eyes which can result in bringing positive views of the government, if that makes sense. If you follow BL live actions, you'll notice a trend of ones that have a huge following being suppressed/the actors can't interact anymore after gaining popularity. Some huge dramas like Immortality and Heavenly Blessings never passed censorship and are probably gathering dust somewhere. That is because the fan base for this is so huge, mainly for the BL aspect, that the government would never turn a blind eye.
Others pass censorship but if they grow too popular will be subject to erasure as well. LGBT+ is not the only thing subject to censorship, other elements include reincarnation, reanimation, true evil, gore, intimacy, and many supernatural elements. They are not as closely regulated, but cdramas still have to find away around them. In the end though, BL's and xianxia/wuxia's are some of the biggest money makers. It would be very hard for them suppress the media completely nor do I believe they would want to. Every so often there's a big wave of push back or they'll take one down in what feels like a reminder of power.
Censorship of media involving same sex relationships. Many book adaptations are subject to this, and several BL live actions have not aired as a result of this.
And the fact that this is even worse than FoF oof except the way the deaths happened here makes more sense~ I…
So wuxia is where you have hero's that can fight using martial arts and can have an internal force they cultivate, but it is not supernatural based, whereas xianxia (xian literally means immortal) involves immortal gods, supernatural entities, and lore based tales a lot of the time. The two can overlap a little but generally veer towards a predominant genre. Most people aren't too particularly intense about classifying it.
Journey to love would be classified as wuxia as there are no immortals/gods/deities, but it involves martial arts and political intrigue. Journey to you, The Double, and Blossom (this one actually has a touch of reincarnation in it but is otherwise ordinary) are also good examples and would fall under this umbrella.
Examples (I'm not if you've seen these yet) of xianxia would be dramas like Starry Love, Love Between Fairy and Devil, Ancient Love Poetry, Moonlight Mystique, Fangs of Fortune, etc as these all have some version of demons, diyu, heaven, deities, and cultivated powers. These most of the time also carry reincarnation as a predominant theme.
There are just plain costume/historical cdramas too which is a bit of a gray area. Most of those just center around political intrigue without martial arts and focus on the court. I don't have good examples of these as it's not my genre 😂 Hope this helped!

Might want to buy the value pack of tissues if you're getting into xianxia and wuxia dramas. These cdramas will make you cry more tears than you realized you had 😂
Glad they got a happy ending, but ended up feeling bad for Bai Shou. She went through so much trauma for Heaven to be like, "Lol, jk, you can have them back!"
Bit disappointed with this one. I really enjoyed it up to episode nine, and then it started to devolve a little. I don't regret watching it, but the editing and process of events wasn't really conducive to a cohesive ending. Not bad, but probably wouldn't go back for seconds.
Might be a translation error or they just assumed. I listened over it again and didn't hear a gender modifier…
I did the same, and the height seemed right for a child. Even when I played it back several times, it still sounds like a young boy. I would assume in k-drama land fashion that it's Eun Ho, but I could be way off.
I've seen Lee Joon Hyuk in so many dramas but he is looking hella fine in this one
Yeah, I've watched him in quite a few of dramas and this is the first one where I keep marveling at how handsome he is. He's always been good looking obvs but in this drama his attractiveness just seems to be growing with each episode.
At around the 2 minute mark of episode 6 Ji Yun's father says "I'll bring her out real quick", so he believed…
Might be a translation error or they just assumed. I listened over it again and didn't hear a gender modifier but I could be mistaken. It's highly likely it was a gender neutral sentence and the translator just chose one.
I had this thought too, I'm super curious how it's going to play out. If it is him and he remembers and knows…
When they revealed him I screamed, lmao. I'm really dreading to see where this is going even as I can't stop watching, whatever he's up to is not gonna be good.
