There were only two series I've watched him in. Good Morning Call and Alice in Borderland and maaaaan, his characters were so different! If it weren't for the flashbacks of his backstory, I woudn't have connected him to Daichi from Good Morning Call who was so soft. Damn! What a good actor!
This drama is very sweeping and a melodrama and this is the reason why it is less popular than Yanxi Palace despite having a bigger production. But it is very sophisticated. And a pure drama piece. Meanwhile, Yanxi Palace is fast-paced with lots of feminist themes. But I'm pretty sure, both really took liberties in the details. The records of Qianlong Emperor's harem is pretty substantial but not to the point where they included all the face-slapping and inner court backstabbing. There is no better drama in the two. But I must say Nie is a better Hong Li than Wallace.
With the official character posters, I'm so hyped. I can totally understand them changing Shi Mei to an actual girl so that Mo Ran can actually push that "i love her" agenda without censorship. The vinegar Wanning will be very very subtle but we all know what's up.
The book is a masterpiece. Like it's really really good. But dang, I'm really not sure how they can pull of every godly scene. The sinner's pit. The flying heavenly city. Xie Lian's statues. The mountain spirits running. Mount Tong'lu. Also, how long would it take for the drama to finish? The manhua has already been released nearly a year with regular updates but we're just at the start of the Banyue arc which is the 2nd task of the 1st of the 5 books.
People gets so allergic with either costume OR danmei content. And this has both so most ppl stay far far away from CQL. I pity them. Because this is really the best. It's been more than a year but people still can't over this masterpiece. I want people to know this, but I also don't want the mainstream dudebros and karens to shower toxicity and dilute the very warmth of this fandom.

I'm just wondering why there were no exclusivity clause in the production rights. I mean, even for a year, or so? I don't get it. How do two companies produce the same material in just a few months.
This is a classic. Of course the pacing of Korean dramas before was more melodramatic, even though is is much of a romcom. And I'm sad that this gets tagged into really really low scores. You have to remember that this was done in 2004, I hope they wear the right hat in watching these dramas, as if watching classic films.
Another day, another chance to tell those who were hesitating to watch this, please try it. Don't let the censored BL tag put you off. Whether you like BL or not, CQL is very universal. Just give it a chance until you see Wei Wuxian's smile, you will absolutely love it. It's very intelligent but also very emotional. Try this (with the right mind to accept its Xianxia crumbs, and you will take you to a different world. And you will never be the same again. :)

Are you new to Xianxia and Wuxia dramas? The flying might be off to non-xianxia watchers but you just need the right headspace to accept this world of cultivators. They are basically c-superheroes, cultivating to be immortals. This genre is influenced by chinese mythology with Xianxia literally means Immortal Heroes, and Wuxia meaning Martial Heroes. So there will be a lot of flying and all. There seems to be no logic, but there actually is. I hope you keep on watching :))
Woah. The actors that played two of my fave costume dramas: Yang Guo and Lan Wangji. I can't believe Chen Xiao and Yibo will ever meet in a drama to become become bestfriends. They have a freaking 10 year difference. Chen Xiao actually looks young, and Yibo once in character can really look his part. So excited.
I'm really worried.
