I didn't get the impression they knew ALL the time. Quite a few years passed at that point. I'd assuming PatPran might have been careful at first, but not as much later on. Even the sister was mentioning Pran being back . . . likely on purpose. The goal wasn't to hide forever, but hopefully things would mellow out with time and finally be okay. The ending just hinted at that actually happening. Finally.
As for the sexual chemistry. Why can't sex be playful? Does it have to be a steamy passionate loving making situation? I feel they are acting in character. If they suddenly just started to drop the playful flirts it'd be weird, in my opinion. I like how their relationship didn't change beside being more intimate. Aren't the best relationships built on friendship? It is possible their relationship isn't easily explained by normal terms. Not quite just best friends who are extremely close--and not quite lovers in the way most would see the label to mean. There are all types of loves and soulmates don't have to be romantic and/or sexual--which are two different things. Not implying you particularly think any of these things of course. haha Just maybe commenting further on what you mentioned. Individual relationships, regardless of the type, are complicated.
