Parallel World from the Future

I've noticed kdramas are no good with Science fiction or action, they're better at doing melodramas, romance,…
That's interesting to hear.

IRIS, IRIS 2, Athena: Goddess of War, were Korea's first successful series in the action, mystery, and scifi genres from my point-of-view. It wasn't followed until recently with shows like Alice, Vagabond, The K2, L.U.C.A., and now this, Sisyphus, and they're doing quite well today than back in the IRIS-era.

I'm a huge fan of Star Trek, StarGate, Babylon 5, Time Cop, 12 Monkeys, Fringe, and other Western scifi franchises, and yet I find Korean scifi very refreshing because of their different approach into it and making sure they add their "Korean touch".

So, now I'm curious, what's with Korean action, mystery, and scifi shows that you don't like? Were you trying to compare it wiht Western shows by any chance? Because, you know, Western and Korean styles are worlds apart, if Koreans will copy the Western style … well …

Care to explain?

Ok, this seems to be more sci-fantasy comedy than a serious sci-fi.
It's soft "science fiction" not "science fantasy".

Soft scifi is defined as science fiction with less regard on scientific facts. Majority of time travel stories are soft scifi. There are hard scifi time travel stories but it is rare because it's not easy to keep a time travel plot grounded in _current_ scientific knowledge -- Alice is one such hard scifi KDrama which is why most people were confused about it.

"Science fantasy" or to be more exact "scifi-fantasy" is a genre where there are elements of fantasy, like dragons and elves, while at the same time incorporating scientific facts and theories, and is usually set in an industrial era or modern day.

I doubt there will be dragons, elves, and knights in shining armour in Sisyphus. :P

Also, what did you find that made it a "comedy" for you? Did I miss anything?

Lastly, how can you judge the show as "already quite a mess" when you've only seen 1 episode out of 16?

Yep. They failed to connect properly because they chose not to talk about their "dislikes" and "hopes" for each other. Definitely a formula for a disaster.

They still can get back together … but I guess for the show it's open-ended for these two.

It is possible she got over him and have a new boyfriend.

I've been there. 15 years relationship. Ended August 16, 2020, she already have a replacement.

Or …

Netflix: What do you think romance is?
Lee Eun Oh: A journey to finding my true self.
Park Jae Won: I've finally learned how it feels to truly love someone. It was very miserable and painful. That's why it's more precious and more cherishable.

Correct. That's how it is in real life. As I've said, this series takes on the various real life experiences and stories of people. ^_^

Don't be afraid of "true love". You haven't truly lived, you haven't truly loved, if there were no pains, hurts, bumps, and trials and tribulations.

Welcome to real life.

True, the premise is overused. However this isn't your typical "boy suddenly is living inside a girl's body" story. This is matured and adult. No typical pervert "o-m-g what is this, I better take advantage of her body" sh*t.

Yes, it is a very funny series but there is depth behind the comedy. It isn't just a drama--like that Thai drama where they also switched bodies--this one have deep lessons hidden.

Haha… people, that's how it is to be truly in love with someone, you don't know what the heck you are doing.I've…
You quoted something that goes against your stand. :p

"If you think you're in love, then you're not in love" yet you claimed "just because you are in love does not mean you don't know what the eff you are doing".

If you know what you are doing then you are not in love. I know because I fooled myself that way for the last fifteen years. "I am in love because I know what I am doing."

Oh, and what's "obsession" has to do with the series? Park Jae Won isn't obsessed. He was trapped in a break-up without proper closure. If you watched the previous episodes, he made it crystal clear. Lee Eun Oh left him hanging, leaving him with a lot of questions.

I wouldn't even be surprised if in the last three episodes they end up separating.

Well, there is no happiness in life without imperfection. You can only claim you truly love someone if you love them for who they are no matter how silly their excuses are, no matter how selfish they might be in your eyes, no matter what and who they were, are, and will become.

Park Jae Won realised it in ep 13. Ep 14 is about Lee Eun Oh. These two characters are growing and learning what it means to truly love someone.

Will they live happily ever after? That's not guaranteed. I wouldn't even be surprised if they went their separate ways later on. (I explained this in another comment.)

If this show is unrealistic for you, it simply means you were either "very lucky" to have not experienced any of it, or you haven't truly loved someone the way these characters did.

I've been there myself. I know people who have been in similar situations.

Crazy show? You have no idea what people do when they're truly in-love and have fears at the same time.

They have not shown a single scenario which was unrealistic. Not one.

So again, you either haven't truly loved someone or you were "very lucky" to have not experienced nor met these type of people. But to say it is unrealistic is an insult to all of us who have been in their shoes.

If this was a realistic drama, the FL should have healed ,realised the ML value and then returned back to Jae won. But…
Oh, it is definitely realistic. I've been there and I know people who've been there too.

The story of this show is not even unique or new. This show actually deserves a "true-to-life" label because they presented various situations and cases which actually happens in real life, especially to people who truly love someone and have fears as well.

Welcome to the real world everyone. ^_^

idk i just think it's hard to get over someone who broke up with you over a voice message with no closure. lee…
re: "selfish" -- nope. It was explained from all the previous episodes why she decided it … she is/was afraid, deeply afraid to make her "fantasy" a reality because her alter ego was her complete opposite.

I have an ex who was like that. Even though it was too late for us … and even though it was so obvious … for years she denied everything. She was afraid to face the reality of her feelings and the reality of our situation (that there's no more chance for us legally). Eventually, back in 2011, she finally admitted everything and faced the reality.

It was only then that we both truly moved on completely. It was only then that we truly started to see each other as friends. A real closure for us. Even though we sometimes cross paths, even though the spark is still there, we have complete control over ourselves and perfectly know our boundaries.

In this show, I hope they don't end up the same way we did after the girl finally faced her fears and embraced the reality. There is still the possibility they'll go their separate ways in ep 15 and 16.

I’m not into this possible love triangle that I’m hearing about -_____- but can someone tell me if this show…
Just watch it. ^_^

Many are saying the first few episodes are not easy to watch, two things to remember about that:
1. Majority of shows (and novels for that matter) are not easy to watch (or read) in the beginning. It's a given.
2. In this particular series, the episodes 1 & 2 were based on real life situations which is making a lot of people uneasy. Majority are watching to escape from reality but these two episodes only reminded them of that.

Another thing you'll always hear, the first two episodes are "unrealistic". Not true at all. I've seen it and I've been there -- which parts of those episodes, well… that's a spoiler already.

Title She Would Never Know Spoiler
Is everybody fine with song ah 's behavior, I mean in the 1st episode she was so bad ass when she told ro won…
You haven't lived and loved if the way she reacted was "not even realistic" for you. ;)

Yes, it is realistic, that's how I acted. Before you say that I'm not a woman, don't forget that Chae Hyun Seung did say that he experienced what Yoon Song Ah is experiencing and he acted similarly--he hoped, he kept "positive", he forgave. Exactly how I experienced it only recently, fifteen (!5) years of relationship but in the past year or so I already saw the "red alerts" and had suspicions. Yet I chose to be positive, hoped, and did things to make what I'm denying not to become a reality.

I trusted her just as Chae Hyun Seung trusted his ex-gf, just as Yoon Song Ah trusted his ex-bf. But in the end they chose the other person to the point that they are denying they ever did wrong. I defended her and I still defend her to this day, because for people like us, we see things more on the positive side. That even if we're hurting deeply, we still believe it is unfair to judge those people who hurt us. Deep inside, our love still trumps even if that love is now simply as "human beings" and not romantically, not even as friends.

Welcome to the real world. ^_^
