Wow, this is actually good. It was already good in episode 1 and it gets better every episode. I hope they can maintain that momentum and give us a series full of lessons and relatable stories.
I AM KINNDAAA CONFUSE WHAT IS THE THING ABOUT MOON LOVERS: THE REINCARNATION IS THAT TRUEE OR WHATTT?????
"Reincarnation" wasn't used in the story. This was a "time-travel" story hence they deleted the so-called "handkerchief scene" where it's assumed they met again.
Noticed how history was changed? Even Ji Mong, the astrologer, was no longer a street drunkard, in the changed timeline Ji Mong became a history professor.
Q: But isn't Ji Mong and Go Ha Jin / Hae Soo reincarnations? A: Not exactly. The premise was Go Ha Jin time-travelled into the body of Hae Soo. It does not necessarily mean they look alike, in fact Go Ha Jin in Hae Soo's body repeatedly mentioned how she's in someone else's body.
If you are familiar with Quantum Leap, exactly the same idea, Scarlet Heart simply did not show us how Hae Soo actually looked like.
Same with Ji Mong. We do not even know if the present-day Ji Mong (the drunkard and the historian) were named "Ji Mong" too.
Q: Is it still possible they were reincarnated? A: Yes. I haven't read the book (original material) the show was based on, maybe in the novel the device used was "reincarnation" and not "time-travel".
Regardless, for this particular adaptation, this was a time-travel story not reincarnation, otherwise they wouldn't remove the "handkerchief scene" where it's assumed they met again and recognised each other because they look the same. They removed those scenes because it doesn't fit their premise.
Really disappointed. IU's acting is awesome, the OST is great and the story is interesting. However, the male…
Nope, no such impression from me. You see, his character is a person who is full of patience and doesn't show emotions very easily. He understands the people first, he puts himself in their shoes.
If you haven't met such people, you'll have to get out more. I can relate to him because I am like him. We are what psychology calls the "healer" and "listener" types.
Secondly, there really are people who are angry but it won't reflect in their voices and actions, yet they are angry. I've met such people, Yeo Jin Goo's character is also like that. It isn't the actor's fault that the role he had to play was a person who wants to see others healed from whatever is holding them "imprisoned" and a person who speaks calmly even when angry.
Can please anyone explain to me what happen in the ending? lol
Jang Man Wol, and everyone in Hotel del Luna, were reincarnated in the same time period as the "Present Day" setting.
You are probably confused because you are assuming that reincarnation means "future time". No. The concept of reincarnation, at least in fiction, can happen in the past, present, or future. Meaning, one can be reincarnated in the past than from their most recent life, or in the same time period as their most recent life.
In other words, if Goo Chan Sung only looked in government records, he would find that the employees of Hotel del Luna were already reincarnated. However, I doubt the Ma Go would let him find them since she deleted him from their memories when he time-traveled in the past.
The next question is this: why was it Jang Man Wol appears to have retained her memories?
The answer lies with Jang Man Wol and Goo Chan Sung's bond. Here are the clues: 1. In one scene, the scissors Ma Go asked Goo Chan Sung about her scissors. Goo Chan Sung asked if he had to cut their tie, the person who hurt him most according to Ma Go. He chose not to. Ma Go was hinting, and Goo Chan Sung understood, that there is a chance for them to meet again … very soon. 1.b. Remember in one episode, for a soul to actually move on, the tie must be cut? Only Ma Go's scissors can cut it.
2. Jang Man Wol walked the spirit bridge twice. In the first attempt, she was able to counter the pull or allure or control of the bridge over her. She struggled there and almost failed but she did regardless.
In the following scenes, we were led to believe that she lost a lot of her memories but there were two to three scenes where she admitted she actually still have almost all of her memories with her.
We were also led to believe that the most distant memories were the first to disappear after stepping on the spirit bridge. In the last episode, this was proven to be not the case, she retained her memories when Goo Chan Sung and her first met when they were kids a thousand years ago. In fact, she remembered that memory she had forgotten naturally.
So, no, stepping on the bridge does not erase your most distant memories first. What it erases first, as hinted in the show, were the "negative" memories--or emotions to be exact. When Jang Man Wol first returned, all her resentments, bitterness, were gone but she still remembers her "living life".
2.b. When she walked the bridge the second time, she no longer struggled. She turned-back, paused, and smiled. She has full control of her memories and the bridge wasn't taking any away. Why? That, I'm afraid, the series didn't explained, not even a single hint.
However, we can assume here. The bond Goo Chan Sung did not cut when Ma Go gave him an option gave Jang Man Wol enough strength to resist the effects of the bridge. After she realised she still have her memories, that was when she smiled and continued walking.
The assumption here is that, Jang Man Wol understood what she needed to do. She was fully aware she cannot turn back like she did the first time because she's technically dead by now, the Moon Tree is no longer attached to her. The only option is to move forward and get reincarnated. Since she has full control of her memories and the bond was not cut, she must go back. No one is allowed to go to the afterlife with their bonds still intact and very strong (as hinted by the Ghost Wedding episode and every other episode).
This allowed her to live again with her memories intact or at least, she recovered her memories. I would not even be surprised if she argued her way and debated and shouted at whoever was waiting on the other side of the bridge. She probably also asked for her three employees to get reincarnated in the same time period, though their memories gone.
This is how and why Jang Man Wol knew where to find Goo Chan Sung, and this is how and why Goo Chan Sung said "you're early, I thought you will be late" because the first time she walked the bridge, it took her weeks to get back. Goo Chan Sung wasn't expecting her to show up that fast.
3. But wasn't Goo Chan Sung reincarnated too? No. Remember he was moving elsewhere? That last scene in the park was him migrated to a new place. I'm not familiar with the scene but it could be another place in Korea or another country. Regardless, the last episode hinted Goo Chan Sung is migrating to a new place, then he visited Ms. Choice #4 for the last time, and finally migrated.
4. But why were the Hotel del Luna employees there too? Well, this is why we can assume that Jang Man Wol demanded her case, that is her character, she will get what she wants. If she retained her memories, then, well, she will indeed get what she wants.
Bottomline, in the whole series, the basic rule is no spirit can cross the bridge who still have a bond with the living. It needs to be cut. They presented this "cutting of bonds" different with each episode, one was the Ghost Wedding where a very, very strong bond has to be cut with Ma Go's scissors by the ghost herself. Ma Go offered that option to Goo Chan Sung.
In other episodes, the bond was cut simply by a "Dream Call". In another, by getting the murderer. In another, by finally forgiving the family that wronged them.
This was not the case with Goo Chan Sung and Jang Man Wol. Their bond remained intact. Since Jang Man Wol can not return, she has to be reincarnated in the same time period as Goo Chan Sung.
LASTLY: I am not saying that I am correct. The last episode was the way it is so that fans can imagine their own things. Basically, it's open-ended not loopholes. If you're a writer yourself, you'll understand the difference between loopholes and open-ended finales. ;)
Again, I am not saying I am correct. They left it open-ended exactly for this reason, so we can discuss it, otherwise, it wouldn't have a long-lasting effect that it has now.
Is it possible the scene at the park was them all reincarnated? Sure. But again, we can not just ignore the hints in the other episodes and in the last episode itself. Also, if reincarnation is always "in the future" then for them all to be at the same age at that park means at least a hundred years passed. Goo Chan Sung must cross the bridge first.
Condolences to her family, friends, relatives, colleagues.
1. The story has ended, that's it.
2. Sequels in TV series are not popular in Asian dramas.

I love all versions of Saikano so I don't know why you're trying to speak for everyone. :p

OR MAYBE …
That park scene was HEAVEN. :p
