This drama is so underrated! I like the dynamic between the four main leads. The cases are fast paced and mostly solved within 2–3 episodes. I also think the supporting casts in each case did a good job and that’s important for staying immersed in the story. I once dropped an investigative drama because the supporting actors felt over the top and some of the cases had cliche, predictable twists that constantly reminded me I was just watching a drama. But this one hooked me right from the start. I feel sorry for all the victims here, and I especially sympathize with two particular cases:
5 episodes to go and the story is still so gripping with so many things we don’t know yet. Honestly, if they want to make it 60 episodes, I’ll still be here!

The unnecessary killing off of the 2nd and 3rd ML. I feel the drama doesn’t need to go this route just to portray how dangerous a political struggle is for the ML and FL’s families. It felt like somewhat lazy writing for Chen Xuan Qing's character. And with Ye Xian's death, the FL loses her best friend, the ML loses his ally, and the Emperor loses one of only two people he can trust. I really cried when Jin Zhao read his letter.
Overall a very good drama that kept me hooked from the first episode. Such strong and equal ML and FL. Even the fight/war scenes were very satisfying. I started watching because of Ci Sha and Ren Min, and they definitely delivered, but I also ended up really impressed by Winwin (Ye Xian was such a well written character, and Winwin’s acting is really good). However, The ending feels a bit rushed and unsatisfying, And there were a few things that I found somewhat annoying:
Wow this is only the second drama I’ve watched where female masquerading as a male really looks quite convincing. “Bare faced” complete with non feminine eyebrows. The other one is He Yan from LOTFG. This is my first drama of Yang Yang and I am so impressed 😍! And don’t even mention the wuxia fighting scenes right from the first episode. Perfection!
Remind me a bit of My Journey to You. Quite intense and thrilling. I like that it is nicely wrapped up, and the entire time I’m watching I couldn’t figure out who the villain(s) were until almost everything was revealed, who is good and evil in the family, and what are the backgrounds of each character. This is also my first drama of Li Ge Yang, and I was so mesmerized by his good looks and acting.
If any of us were to transmigrate into a story and assuming all MLs are not villains, I believe any of these would do ❤️:
- A classically handsome, intelligent scholar, slightly reserved and proper, no doubt will be a government official someday. Discussing books and painting together are part of everyday life. Gazing lovingly, unspoken understanding, and comfortable silence.
- A dashing, handsome dandy heir to a marquisate. A bit immature and arrogant due to his privileges and upbringing, but not a mean person. Playful banter every day, doing fun things together, living in luxury.
- A mature, “hot” established minister. Makes your heart skip a beat every time you look at him. Serves the people yet is also a ruthless warrior. Protector, intelligent partner, quite loving in private.
Finished all 4 episodes and I feel like the FL has chemistry with all 3 MLs! Winwin’s role here really reminds me of his role in Perfect Match. Hoping to see him as the ML in this kind of arrogant nobleman role someday.

There was this sense of perpetual sadness while watching this, even more than MJTY, but I couldn’t stop because it was just so good! The story, the cast, the dark aesthetic… everything really pulled me in. This is the only drama where I never skip the ending credit scenes, kind of making up for all the gloomy moments.
I especially loved the friendships between the six of them, the bromance between ZYZ & ZYC and also ZYZ & LL, the sibling relationship between PSJ & PSH, and the brotherhoods of ZYC & BJ and YL & BJ. The only minor thing that didn’t quite work for me was ZYZ & WX’s relationship, I know FOF doesn’t focus heavily on romance but I just didn’t feel much chemistry between them. I also found ZYC’s supposed unrequited love completely unconvincing
The OSTs and BGMs are absolutely out of this world. Honestly, I don’t think anything can top this for me ❤️
