I am sorry you feel like that abt the drama. Each person has different tastes and what appeals to one person might not appeal to another. But I would say the storyline and FL character does get better.
This might seem like a controversial opinion but in a way I am glad that they show how both parties are to blame for the misunderstanding. Generally dramas tend to focus the misunderstanding on one character. But here the drama shows how both Gu Wei and LXZ are at fault. And it is completely natural, because in real life too, we might think that someone else is the cause of the problem but actually we too might be contributing to the problem It is up to the audience to decide who is the person who contributed more towards the misunderstanding. And judging from the different comments, I read on here, on twitter and douban, there is a very strong discussion going on about it.

Thank you this amazing analysis. I agree with this, the angst plot might seem unnecessary but it really shows the differences between the couple's careers and goals. While I do hope they don't drag the angst for too long, I am glad that they drama is using it to address the issues such as their age gap and different careers. That's why it feels rather realistic. Besides if the drama is comprised of only sweet moments , it will get boring fast too. And also when was there ever a romcom drama without a little angst. We just have to bear with it and continue watching till we get the sweetness again. Also while I do dislike the sml, I have to credit his actor for successfully making everyone dislike him.
While I know this plot with the SML was set up to make the GuLin couple closer and also for each other to understand the differences between their personalities and over come it. I really hope that the misunderstandings are resolved soon. One reason I like OOL is because unlike typical rom coms OOL seems to resolve it's misunderstandings very fast. I am so glad that I found this drama. I didn't think I would find another heart fluttering drama like the red sleeve. But this drama along with is giving some really good vibes. Also I think this is one of the few dramas where I like the second lead couple as much as the main leads. Waiting for episodes is super frustrating though.
