We are now moving into Ep 15+ and we have plenty of story to evaluate. I’ve been so thrilled with this cast, that I forgot to praise the writer, director, composer, and production team as well. They created this series, chose the cast, worked together, and apparently are all on the same current in creating this story. And when everything works this well—they are making a classic, and they know it. I don’t think they’ll let us down, much less themselves. They have too much invested. ❤️

Me too. I love her dearly; but for me this is Namkoong Min’s most brilliant performance, and JH will become one of the most important and defining characters in KDrama.

Totally agree with your assessment: this series is superb, deeply moving, brilliantly written, directed, and acted. The snippy-snipey comments tell me everything about the posters and nothing about the series—which is becoming one of the finest KDramas.
Instead of CLOY of Goblin, I think this deserves to be in line with beloved Korean sageuks of the past 20 years…
Though I see it in line with CLOY and Goblin, I also put it with Red Sleeve et al. you mention. Can always tell a veteran KDrama fan by the depth of their lists. I think we are being blessed again by “My Dearest.” I’m so moved by this love story that I’m going back over scenes—and, yes, not only do the makers know exactly what they’re doing, they know that we do, too.
I hope “My Dearest” is destined to become a K-Drama Classic. It is some of the best writing, acting and direction, themes and engagement, coupled with both anguish and joy, expectation and reality. But I ramble. Simply, I love our leads and their story as well as the supporting actors as much as “Crash Landing,” “Goblin” and a handful of others. And Ep 14 had me by the heart every second. Woke up in the middle of the night to find Viki (grrrr) had finally posted the subbed 14, sat down with a cup of coffee, and tried not to have a heart attack for over an hour. And I still can’t go back to sleep. It is everything I hoped for and more. ❤️
The closure of Ep 13 is everything. No matter how much we longed for it . . . . the scene was even more breathtaking and heartbreaking. And tragically beautiful. Though the butt-kicking of bad guys is satisfying, it is what follows we so needed to see. Both leads are silently remarkable with shock, anguish, and heartbreak in their eyes and facial expressions. Then JH’s expression begins to slowly transform as he realizes what has happened to GC. She meets his eyes and then looks down and away from him, unable to let him “see” her, which is also the exact point when he begins to move toward her from the back of the laughing crowd.
Only after seconds have passed, as his comprehension of the tragedy before him deepens, does his heart finally break, and the tortured howl begins. The charming girl in the swing who sassed him and whom he has loved ever since is now a brutalized woman, a victim trying to hide herself from him. He knows instantly what has happened to her and, unlike her twit “husband,” approaches and claims her again. As we fans know, Namkoong Min is one of the great actors in the world today—he shows us again just how perfectly controlled his gift is. And he leaves us in tears that we knew all along would be coming. They both break our hearts—but they also make us love them that much more.
