dropped this by ep 2 a few years ago.
main reason (all the usual reasons other smart people had already stated are there too of course):
towards the end of ep 2 there's a steaming-nonsense bar scene in an off-ishly eclectic-looking bar, right? on the background, a half-muted rock ballad is playing, just barely audible...
WTF?
WHY?
.........
ironically, the one I'm so childishly taking offence for, was sometimes referred to (and still) as THE SUN.....now, ain't that the creepiest coincidence....
if he was half the person legends tell he was... nah, can't even begin to imagine what he'd do if he knew about this. but it wouldn't be nice for sure.

I can't imagine how taxing it is to the normal body to portray someone with CP like that in the movie. Just watching…
right? just doing "sitting on a chair doing nothing for 30 sec'' must be a workout in itself...
I've had a few acquaintances w CP - what he's doing is SPOT ON. and in so much detail!

question for the ones in the know:
who is Sen Chuan (森川) that sings the two spooky "lullabies" (theme songs of the one-legged girl ep. and the drum skin ep,) ? I think these songs are amazing for what they are, but there's basically nothing about their creator/s on the western side on the world wide web and I'm far from knowing enough Mandarin Chinese to research elsewhere..... ((
I usually don't even like high female voices but these two are masterfully crafted imho...
thank you

That Yeong’s HIV status is the reason he does not go to China is only partly correct. The series’ 4-year time…
i felt the narrative was that Yeong's feelings went somewhat stale way before the condom impediment became a real issue for them, he complained about the boredom of their routine life in voice-overs) and in last ep. there was something about wanting more excitement and thrills in his love life in one of his monologs)
so, yeah, it's a combination of factors, (isn't it always?) that why it's universally relatable and, technically, applicable to, well, to most romantic relationships that worked at first then gradually fell apart.
*the discrepancy between the spoken dialog and the English subs is a bit unsettling, the two questions are pretty different, and these nuances are important in this genre ( too bad my schedule (and brain) doesn't have free space to learn the language. oh well...

Your view makes scenes. I can't say i disagree )
admittedly i don't have much mental space for what "anyone" (real life people, not fictional characters) should\shouldn't do with their lives. if i still catch myself dwelling on that - i stop by performing a little self-intervention of sorts. had seen just a little too many people do weird stuff too many times))
coincidentally, due to my reality's certain specifications, people around me (even myself included every once in a while) recite variations of what you wrote ("statistically speaking the likelihood of someone getting hit by a....." etc.) on a somewhat regular basic for years
i get it.
it's just that when it all concerns a life other than one's own - it is not the same .
and when it concerns a loved one - much much more not the same.
the "statistically speaking" spell tends to lose it's magical power, if i may put it this way.
because - human feelings, you know.
...........
having said all that, i'm aware this is smthng that's unlikely to truly make sense to somebody if it doesn't already, on some level. some things are harder to convey with just black symbols on white screen.
and this is why the guy who wrote the book is so cool. he has the talent to convey complicated human experience with words on paper. i appreciate that. after all, it's what art of literature is all about ))

i'm only talking about sex without condoms, that's all) i'm talking about how'd i feel in the protagonist's shoes, if unsafe sex was the only option i (the protagonist) believed to be relevant to maintain a satisfactory relationship)
assuming that chances of worst case scenario even when not using condoms are close to zero - in this story the protagonist was still not ok with it. and i'm just saying i can relate. because it's not about me (the protagonist) or my life alone. it's about SOMEBODY ELSE'S LIFE.
there's a big big big big big difference
but it's ok, i totally get what you'r saying
maybe i just don't believe in science THAT much by now)
or rather: i might not believe in healthcare industry that much by now, life experience kinda gets in the way))

at the end of the day,
in an extremely unlikely case that the worst scenario plays out - will the one w Kylie truly be able to not feel horrible about it?
if one is human, if one cares about one's partner - it's next to impossible imho. come to think of it, let me rephrase - if one is human, it's next to impossible.
also, is PrEP completely safe to the body? doesn't harm, let's say, one's liver at all? doesn't have side effects of any kind? i don't know. i do know i'd be asking myself these questions if this was relevant to my reality and possibly affecting my partner)

...can i just say one sec that the person who mentioned "putting someone at risk", i think he meant what you said (treatment, undetectable load, PrEP) , but WITHOUT condoms - according to this story, using them made MLs sex life challenging to the point of impossible (i'm simplifying), 'cause the boyfriend "kept getting soft''. so all the ethical dilemmas he raised apply to a hypothetical situation where partners don't use condoms.
personally, i'd say i agree with him on this, finding it all more plausible than not)

"making" - indeed maybe not the best verb for what i was attempting to convey.
my excuses:
- not a native speaker.
- was short in time, a better verb never came to mind.
- it still does the job, more or less, imho:
free will is overrated) or rather, does it exist? (maybe similarly to "laziness" - a colloquial name for a common outcome of certain root causes) external\internal factors are always there to pull in one direction or another. the one with Kylie is the reason for the one without her, to decide to go on PrEP. no Kylie - no (free will decision to take) PrEP.
as such, the one w Kylie is "making" the other one do things he otherwise wouldn't

real life straight in your face, huh?
i had no idea K-industry does that, I thought it thinks it's not profitable, and i only ever encountered diabetes inducing fairytales or overproduced horror stories n thrillers with an average plot at best, and thus had completely given up on it quite a while ago..
SURPRISE!!!!!
it's weird at times (much like a real life), i don't like how the last ep is structured,
i disagree on some of the protagonist's "life lessons"\takes on his relationships (i don't think the last boyfriend was the love of his life for example), i hurt for him and wish his pain to go away miraculously, but I don't like him as a person much, if you know what i mean)...
but given the context
it is one of my fav series ever.
definitely my fav from K industry.
i love how some people say it's cliche and not original.
they are right.
most people (as in, me and everyone i know) deal, not always in the most efficient or the smartest manner, with different variations of the same old fecal matter. it's called life.

i think this, let's say, "fictional reality" claims that in its fictional Thailand PrEP IS an over-the-counter medication. that's how i see it.
If this "artistic inaccuracy" is very far from the real factual reality of these things, then it might be perceived as a major flaw in the plot indeed....

interestingly, the supporting characters are all at least as good, if not better, than the ML.. )

-- in ep. 5 they have the Wu Tiao Ren indie-folk duo, with their actual song preceding their scene, lol.
like, I might know next to nothing about C-culture (well, maybe a bit more than that but I know very little for sure), but I recognized the vocalist's voice in a couple of seconds).
and the scene has actual plastic bag getting stuck to ML's face, lol, and also the whole setting kinda matches Wu Tiao Ren's members real life origin story. ... this is really fun to watch)
also, just curious - how do you make a flying plastic bag land where you want it, namely on ML's face? magic? hmmm......

cult and classic Western films namedropping is kinda cute
"ARE YOU TALKING TO ME?!" lol
it's a lil' bit like those dark action-comedies from late 90s and up to 2010s, (cleaned up and powdered, for obvious reasons) where each character is a bit insane in their own way....not Snatch, but kinda in that direction imho.....
"Soviet adventure-comedy from the 60s meets early Guy Ritchie" that's what it is imho

it is thought provoking and has very high production value, the acting is great for the most part.
but i couldn't help but skip all the "sugar daddy" subplot - boring n not my cup of tea at all.
also, it had loads of suspense w the gold digger ML and lost all of it when they sent him away on Haiti or whatever, so I partially continued watching out of general appreciation, curiosity what'd be the bottom line of it all, and a cultural n language interest. but not because of the plot, which is a bit sad.
the overall message surprised me, 'cause my reality n general background are not like this - but after some further research I might have begun to understand where it comes from...
bottom-line of this story "lovers come n go, friends stay forever".
well, personally I can't say I can relate, but I've met people who do and I hope it's still working out for them :-)

neat little gem of a short film.
seems like someone's film school final project or something (but not in a bad way)
good-looking shots with nothing unnecessary.
simple and predictable melodramatic story,
but told in a clever way through the visuals and through the dialogs and through the editing, like a proper film ideally should you know - and that's why it doesn't feel "have seen that already" and makes you care, like a proper film ideally should you know.
my problem is i'm bad with names, even short ones, let alone long ones I'm not able to pronounce) how am I gonna follow up on the writer-director's future projects?! )))
.....
the guy from THOSE bl series indeed stood out straight from the beginning, didn't he?
like, there were the MLs and then there was this guy, in terms of quite convincing performances imho ))
hope he gets quality projects..... otherwise, it'd be a waste of a talent and it'd be somewhat upsetting
