It will always depend on what you want to watch. Cdrama has a lot to offer, tho this is one of the best xianxias…
Agree completely. I like FLs who have self-agency and aren't damsels in distress. Who Rules the World and The Autumn Ballad also feature strong, self-aware, intelligent FLs, imo. If you like modern dramas, Sunshine of my Life features a FL who doesn't give up her career/passions for the ML. Anyways, let me know what you think of Unchained Love!

Check out Unchained Love! Wang He Di (actor who plays DFQC) is the ML. It's historical not xianxia (fantasy), but the FL is not naive or ignorant. Both the ML and the FL are intelligent, mature and self-aware individuals. Xianxia, unfortunately, seems to frequently feature childish, "pure," immature FLs.

It's really cool but I cannot watch it well because of the female lead. I know in general, in other dramas they…
Unfortunately, xianxia in particular seems to almost always pair pure, naive, innocent FLs with dark, brooding, troubled, OP MLs. I really hope we can see a strong female character paired with the typical xianxia ML someday because I also prefer strong and mature female lead characters.

Unchained Love is historical not xianxia, but the FL, Bu Yin Lou, is strong, self-aware, and mature, imo. She's not physically strong, but she is intelligent and witty and doesn't easily fall into villainous schemes. The Autumn Ballad (historical) pairs strong, independent, scheming characters together; however, the plot does fall apart towards the middle and end, imo. But it was refreshing to see a female character who could hold her own against antagonistic characters and the ML. Who Rules the World (wuxia/historical) also features a strong and independent female lead character.

An aside, I recently added Empress Ki to my watchlist because of the above reason, so I'm glad that you mentioned it as an example of a series that has a strong female lead-- I cannot wait to watch it!

Yes, the preview video for episode 20 seems to insinuate that the drama is heading towards that direction. https://youtu.be/qdnps6RffaE
I actually really like it so far. The FL is refreshing because she's self-aware and intelligent, imo, so she doesn't easily fall into the antagonists' schemes.

Title Unchained Love Spoiler
What is the medications Xiao Duo is taking? emmm I could make a guess but what do you guys think?
It's probably some kind of hormone blocker that prevents outward signs of puberty, including facial hair.

Last episode had me bluuuushiing! A very natural, innocent yet sensual portrayal of a budding romantic relationship!…
Same!! Xiao Duo reminds me so much of Liang Yi! And I agree that the FL and ML of Autumn Ballad had such great chemistry and such a wholesome relationship! Both Qiu Yan and Yin Lou are strong female female leads, imo, who are self-aware and take the initiative to reach their respective goals, not relying on "fate" to determine their destinies.

Tong Yun is really starting to irritate me. She really doesn't understand Yin Lou at all, and I do not find her "comedic scenes" funny whatsoever. She has a very practical and realistic perspective, I guess, which may be necessary if one wants to survive palace life. But I wish she were more considerate and understanding of Yin Lou's feelings and perspective. Also, I do not see any chemistry between her and Cao Chun Ang; their interaction seem forced.
