I think our definitions of green flag characters are different. Imo, green flag characters can be morally grey. However, I don't consider red flag characters morally grey. Li Cheng Yi was toxic, and it's implied that he SAed Xiao Feng. If this is how Cang Xuan will treat Xiao Yao eventually, then I'll stop liking him as a love interest for her. Yes, I'm reading the novel because I want to prepare myself for the upcoming angst 😆

I just started reading the novel! As long as he doesn't become outright abusive, toxic, and or SAs the FL, I'll still like him 😆 because I love morally grey characters, and I'm really hoping that we'll have one!!

@insideout91 Going by what I've seen so far, including the trailer for episode 9 when he severely wounds Xiao Yao), Cang Xuan is much more of a healthy and consistent character than Xiang Liu imo. His love and care for his family is unwavering. So yes, I'm still rooting for him (and Ye Shi Qi) 😆

I completely agree. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy, and so I don't want it to happen for Xiao Yao's character either. Also, I just prefer how consistent green flag MLs are- they're kind and respectful to everyone and not just the FL. I'm glad that Xiang Liu's behavior toward Xiao Yao is not romanticized though (unlike soo many romance/fantasy romance books).

Give me Shaodian You Qin-esque characters (The Starry Love) any day 💚 I don't like abusive and toxic MLs (reminds me of soo many MLs in manhua) I don't like MLs who are only gentle and kind to the FL and cold to everyone else (I haven't read the novel, but I'm assuming Xiang Liu's character is heading in that direction). Feelings fluctuate and, realistically, there's no guarantee that he'd still treat the FL with respect and kindness if and when he stops liking her, which I know doesn't happen in dramas. I like how consistent "green flag" MLs are and don't find them dull at all. So far, I'm rooting for Ye Shi Qi and Cang Xuan! I'm so glad that Yang Zi was casted as the FL!

This is also how I felt as well. Personally, I prefer more of a gradual character development, so her complete personality change when she became the goddess again was disconcerting to me.

So far, I really like Cang Xuan and Ye Shi Qi's respective characters. I like how consistent Cang Xuan is, and I like how supportive and caring Ye Shi Qi is. I have mixed feelings about Xiang Liu. I hate the ML changes for the FL trope. The ML is cold to everyone but is gentle and kind to the FL trope. He clearly cares for his troops though. I do appreciate how the main characters are multi-faceted and not flat. I cannot wait to see what happens next! All of the actors and actresses are amazing!!

This is still one of my comfort dramas 😌 I remember how refreshing it was when it was first released. I'm so glad that dramas these days are similar to it in their lack of overused tropes!

This was so amazing!! This was such a meaningful and deep series imo. I really liked how it approached mental health. All the main characters were so fleshed out— Jing Chao was spectacular as always! I also loved seeing Zhou Qi Qi (Wen Rou in Here to Heart)! Wish more people knew about this series. I really want to see Qiao Xin and Gong Jun in another drama!!! Hopefully a historical one! 💜 Time to watch BTS and interview clips 😆

Just saw your reply, sorry! I agree. Xiao Lan Hua does undergo a drastic character change when she becomes the goddess again. But I thought that her character development and growth beforehand were minimal at best. You can consider checking out Till the End of the Moon, Starry Love, Immortal Samsara, and the others I mentioned in my previous comment for FLs that are more self-aware and intelligent and or at least undergo character development and become more mature.

Do you have any recommendations? I just started Back from the Brink because I've heard that it features a more mature FL.

I am so happy to see Zhan Yu in a lead role!! I absolutely loved his portrayal of Song Jin in The Autumn Ballad!!

He's one of my favorite (secondary) MLs of all time!! Luo Yun Xi plays such complex (albeit heartbreaking) characters! I also loved him as Rong Qi in Princess Silver. I'm on episode 24 of Immortal Samsara now, and I'm still really enjoying it. Yang Zi is becoming one of my favorite actresses, so much so that I want to try Ashes of Love again 😅

I'm currently watching it (on episode 5), and I don't think Yan Dan is similar to Jin Mi. I wasn't fond of Jin Mi's character (or really any of the characters in Ashes of Love except Run Yu and Liu Ying), but so far, I really like Yan Dan's character! I'm also really enjoying how the relationship between Yan Dan and Ying Yuan is progressing.
