they are pulling tropes that have been pulled a bit too much, but the leads chemistry and visuals are what's keeping people watching. if you skip all the random scenes with the old people you don't care about (as i do everytime i watch a cdrama for the visuals) you'll find the experience a lot more bearable.

the govt is pretty strict on the images they like to present, so usually any kind of gray or interesting characters are looked down upon. moreover, the audience for idol-type cdramas, mainly teenage girls, are good with self-insertable female characters that are funny and cute and not much else. cdramas are rather commercial (in a literal sense, judging by the amount of vitacoco the leads have been drinking), and whatever sells is whatever gets made. usually, once you stray away from the idol dramas, you get more well put together female roles.

yeah, i was getting a bit tired of a woman in her 20s acting like a prepubescent child. not even just for dilraba, but cdramas in general. she really shines here, and goes to show that likable female characters don't always either have to be ruthless businesswomen or gullible teenagers.

i might have put my foot in my mouth, but for once i'm surprised at how mature dilraba is in here! being someone who followed her for quite a while, its pleasantly refreshing how she actually takes responsibility in this role lmao. will keep my hopes low, but keep watching.

i honestly get that if i was han fei and one of my friends wanted to stop being friends with me because i didn't tell her i was friends with someone else, i'd be pretty confused and pissed. however, if you were a teenage girl who excitedly introduced your favorite idol to your new best friend only to later find that they actually knew each other for a long time and let you drone on and on while pretending like they didn't know them and now you look like an idiot, her reaction is understandable.

its unintrusive. i don't think its particularly amazing, but its a feel good romcom that features two mary sues, basically. i don't think anyone hates it and it has pretty solid reviews, so i'd give it a watch if you are unhappy and want to be cheered up but not if you are hoping for complex plotlines and characters.
