Offtopic, but what's worth to note, before that scene (without HJP), when SDM tells him "he's our mentor!", Yongsan yells "Maybe to you, he's a nice person" , so I think YS later asks HJP to put his emotions aside in regards to Dalmi (since SST know he likes her), because he wants Dalmi to hear and know how "harsh" he can be. At least that's how the scene comes off to me.
Which I find ridiculous because HJP is the same to SDM when giving criticism lmao (and he hasn't talked/gave the "harsh" business advices to SST since ep 6 =_=)

Other than this I agree with your message in the first paragraph and the last sentence

Other dramas: *second female lead uses tricks to stop the male lead from seeing the female lead*
All viewers: i fcking hate her, what a b*tch
Anti-character-hate warriors: *crickets*

Start-up: *male lead does questionable things throughout the drama, in particular in the second half*
Some viewers: omg I hate him/I hate how he does A,B,C,D and is never punished and never says sorry for it

Here are the reasons why people are saying that dosan is a character that doesn't have character growth, and that he gradually becomes problematic or at the very least dislikable through the drama:
- destroys the nameplate: never says he's sorry about the mess he created afterwards, drama and dalmi never address this as wrong
- makes a deal with alex without disclosing what alex said about wanting only him, signs the contract in one day, but then blames yongsan for stopping hjp from calling them
- punches hjp after his friend asks him to be honest and put his feelings aside, right after asks for his help: never says sorry, drama and dalmi never address this as wrong
- stalks dalmi and listens in her conversations when she asked him to leave her alone for the time being: this is considered romantic, never addressed as wrong by the drama or reprimanded by dalmi
- leaves drunk girl in the park alone: never addressed as wrong by the drama
- uses information attained by stalking to comfort her, otherwise he wouldn't be able to help motivate her for demoday: considered romantic
- says he only has dalmi, and nothing else, ignoring the fact that he has a supportive (financially) father a supportive emotionally mother, a supportive extended family, 2 best friends that support everything he does: never addressed as wrong
- says "rich jerk" to an older man, with a higher position, that is not his real brother, and they're not close and they don't like e/o: remember this is South Korea and respect to ppl with a higher position and/or age is very important, however it's okay for dosan to say it without ever saying sorry afterwards
- touches dalmi's hair (mountain scene) and puts her head on his shoulder, while still thinking that she and hjp are in a relationship, because sdm never clarified that they weren't to him: seen as romantic and not wrong by the drama
- overhears again on purpose dalmi and injae conversation and uses this information to inspire/motivate her and proceed with the risky business: never addressed as wrong, but it's romantic instead
- says sailing off without a map was marvellous and he never regrets it, while knowing that by doing so dalmi and saha lost theri jobs, when he and twosans went to silicon valley and became rich: dalmi and drama considers this romantic
- doesn't want to give back the letters that were never his to begin with: never addressed as wrong by the drama
- asks for the plant saying it was given to him, while in reality dalmi brought it to him only after meeting him once at the networking party, which means she still didn't know the "real" dosan, and the plant was still meant for the penpal-dosan aka jipyeong: never addressed by drama, on the contrary it looks like the drama supports dosan in his request and thinks that he's right.

Since you're talking about hate to the main couple, I'll post you a comment (copy and pasted) i published a few days ago about the not so good things that dosan did that were never addressed as wrong by the drama or other characters, often times even romanticised. Wanna know what you think about the list. Is it nitpicking for you, is it unjustified hate for you, or are the things that i pointed out quite reasonable? Considered that they were never addressed as wrong and if the actions created some problems, the character still breezed through it as if nothing happened.

An additional point i want to make is: dosan, dalmi, saha, hjp, injae, ANY other character of the drama is exactly that, a CHARACTER. And they can be criticised. It doesn't mean it's just hate... we see their actions, we don't like them, we point it out. Even IF ppl just hate him (or them).... They're STILL fictional characters, what's wrong with that? Just because they're leads we're supposed to unconditionally love them?
The problem arises when the hate is directed at the actors, which of course is wrong. However in THIS particular comment section the actors are not hated.

? Start up was messy in the reactions not because it was on netflix, but because it was indeed messy. Especially in the second half. The reactions reflect the way the drama f**ked up.

If true beauty follows more or less the webtoon, i don't think it will have any problems like start up, they just need to wrap it up nicely since the webtoon is not finished yet lol

I read the webtoon till like chapter 60 and liked the second lead better (but the main lead suho was not bad at all! I just preferred seojun), so I hope here in the drama they'll convince me of the main lead more than in the webtoon :)

I actually hate love triangles like this, so I think I will go into this with a light heart and without investing myself too much so that I can enjoy the drama lol

I want to let this out once. About HJP's "rudeness". I think most of us agree that he tells facts and harsh truths, and those facts sometimes can be very painful to hear, but he's a businessman and doesn't need to coddle people with nice words just because they can't take it (other people might not agree with this and I understand, if you're one of them don't jump me thank you). Yes, he gets a character development in that department after the timeskip and becomes a bit softer but I still want to talk about the early episodes, and in particular this one scene:
(I'll recap it so that you remember it)
Ep 2. HJP meets SST at their office for the first time, and asks dosan for a favour, to pretend for 1 hour to be the person in the letters.
At this Dosan is visibly disappointed and says "So you're not here to invest in our company". HJP says sorry [Wow what a rude jerk!]
Twosans ask for a reward. HJP asks how much money they want. Dosan then asks HJP if he had a look at their business plan. HJP says yes.
Dosan then AGAIN asks if HJP is interested in investing.
HJP replies: "your business is still in the early stage for us to invest"
(notice how he goes easy on them here, he's POLITELY telling them the business plan is not good enough yet)
Dosan: "is it because it's too early or because we have no potential?"
(I'm sorry but he's asking for it, he's pressing the issue when HJP already told him he's there not to invest)
HJP: "Look, i'm not here as an investor"
(and HJP AGAIN tells them this, still not saying anything rude, at this point he told them 3 times he isn't there to invest)
SST go on the rooftop to discuss and then they come back.
Dosan asks to enter sandbox instead of money.
HJP: "I can't do that just because you ask me"
Dosan starts reading that article about Sherpa.
HJP tells him to stop, but dosan continues. HJP again "i never said that, the interviewer-", dosan still continues to read the article. Then HJP snaps and offers money again.
Dosan: "We want to enter sandbox, we don't need money"
HJP: "Too bad, sandbox is beyond my ability"
Then when he's about to leave he turns around and tells them his success rate etc with start ups and that he's nver gonna invest in them.

Now read again and notice who is the rude one in the whole scene.
HJP? The one who politely tells them 3 TIMES he's not gonna invest? The one who says no to help them enter sandbox but Dosan is STILL pressing him? No. In my opinion, the rude one here is Dosan. He's asking for it but then gets all sad when receives the ultimate answer since sst didn't unerstand the first four times, but the viewer somehow is left with the impression that HJP is the rude one.
At that point we didn't know it, but later we realize that to enter the sandbox program they need to go through fair selection, it's not like HJP can go and put them in sanbox like nothing happened, it would be unfair to everyone else. When one doesn't know when to stop asking for things he was declined multiple times, I understand hjp's snapping at the end when he was about to leave.

Sorry for the rant lol
