If this show was being promoted internationally, then yeah its a valid problem and criticism, but this show is…
Hi! No problem! I can’t even imagine how you must feel, don’t wish this upon anyone. It’s true, unfortunately I know of a lot of stories about how black koreans and black immigrants are treated in South Korea exactly because of how they portray black people on tv. Its absurd how some people don't see anything wrong with it or have the audacity to tell people- even the ones who are the victims of racism- to shut up just because this is a show made for Koreans and not international fans. 1st of all, that's not true. Since long ago SK has made dramas with the intent for international people to watch cuz guess what we are bringing the money in - hence why Viki exists and why there are more dramas on Netflix now. And 2nd, let's take a second to imagine how black immigrants and black Koreans must have felt after this episode aired. Millions of Koreans watch The Penthouse. Millions of Koreans are gonna have the idea that Alex Lee is how all Americans are - people who are or turned into thugs because of all that "exposure" from black people and culture. This is harmful for all black people around the world, bur even more so for blacks living in Korea, who by the way, the show was also catered to. It's more than time for this to stop especially with the /amount/ of information - and for for free - there is out there. I'm really sorry for what this person said and on behalf of all the racist and ignorants on this comment section. I really am sorry.
Exactly! They did a good job in s1 with Logan's fake identity as the PE teacher. I don't understand what conversation happened during the meetings for them to give the okay to this. It's not surprising they did something like this cuz SK is famous for being hella racist but it's still frustrating. We are in 2021. The access to information is easy and free. There were SO many ways to characterize him in a "funny" way without being offensive and racist.

you completely went over the fact that there are black people living in Korea and there are Black Koreans... lmao just say you don’t care about blacks and go
It wasn't "inconvenience" it was point blank offensive. And it /was/ a mockery. Theres was absolutely no need to portray a character "americanized" in this way. It wasn't just the hair, it was the whole thing. They dressed him up in a black american from the bronx "costume". People's culture and identity aren't something you can just use as a costume. It's blatantly disrespectful and offensive. The key word here is offensive, not "inconvenience".
Omg what happened? Was it on today's episode ? I am so so sorry this happened :(
what the actual fuck??? they weren't even "subtle". This was full blown mockery. I feel sick what the fuck. Im so sorry this happened and you had to witness it. SK has a lot to learn, this is not acceptable.
some people here think the drama is filled with "pretentious" messages and empty meanings so I don't think they…
I seriously don't understand why people do that to themselves. Why force yourself to watch something you don't like? Really??? Holy- well.. controversy generates discussions. The reactions are literally polar opposites for this drama and I guess that sparks lots of talks lmao
but its viewer doesn't even reach millions. only thousands based on the graph by nielsen media research so yea…
I wasn't bragging I was stating facts just the way you are with the Nielsen reference. Even if it's being watched by thousands it's still making success specifically when it's being aired at such a horrible time slot. It's not the penthouse type of success for example but it's still success to me - small victories if you will.
Calm down. This is not something you get so angry about it lol.
Hi! Once again, it seems we are completely on the same page lol. Thank you much for your answer. Loved the comparison you did - it's exactly what is happening in here. I like this forum, and I like to see people's opinions on this drama, be it negative or positive. But it really upsets me seeing these types of comments that just like you said, blame something/someone else for the reason they don't like instead of owning up to the real reason. I've lost count of how many times I have said this, but IT'S OKAY TO NOT LIKE SOMETHING. I am not trying to spread hate or impending others from leaving their discontentment. However, and that's a big however, I can not accept people being disrespectful towards all the people working on this drama. One more time, it's okay to dislike the drama and show your opinions (negative or positive), but at least do it in a constructive way. The screenwriter, the director, actors, and everyone else involved in the making of DAYS deserve, at the very very least, that. You don't need to apologize, to me at least, because nothing you said was offensive. You said everything eloquently and worded your opinion carefully. So there is nothing for you to worry about. Thank you once more for your comment!
