I'm enjoying this series thus far. The ML gives me all the feels. Grayish morals. A good guy willing to do bad…
You make a point I do agree.
Even though this drama title Princess's Gambit, I feel the ML is the real hero because he is the moral compass of the story. FL is driven merely by need for survival and revenge. ML has vision for the future of the kingdom, but act like an antihero. Imagine the story is told from his perspective, it would be a great palace/ political drama.
Had FL revealed everything to ML, the story would have ended in episode 20.
ML would have ransacked the boutique to get the antidote. Met the third prince there, so he would be accused of treason. He would get death sentence along with FL. Happily ever after for the enemies. The end.
So I took a day off from Asian dramas to watch The Sandman 2 and The old guard 2, in one day. They were both amazing…
Despite some flaws, I prefer Cdrama elegant portraying of women and Asian cultural values to Hollywood/ Western liberalism, nudity, and sexual scene on my screen.
Hilarious. The falling off a cliff trope and she didn't even break a fingernail, muss her hair or get a smudge…
If you watched carefully, you should find a scene when Qingtai first found her. She was messy and almost died. But, if that still doesn't satisfy you, like you wish to see FL with broken bones, bruises, and blood everywhere, bandage, wheelchair, surgery, blood transfusion, going to hospital, undergoing big operation... I don't know what to say. You'd be better watch modern crime drama.
Prince Wuyin didn't name the Princess "Meng" by chance. Most likely, he wants to get the Chancellor's support…
So far, we don't see the logical reason why Wuyin hates his father enough to cause him to commit such a crime. We don't know his background story, btw.
is their any trope remaining to introduced cause we already had enemies to lovers, forced marriage/ marriage of…
Until episode 21, it is enemy to lovenemy, marriage to divorce. Rather than spy FL, I would call it, double agent FL. She is a spy, or even puppet, in the eyes of her enemy, but she follows her own agenda to beat her enemy. It is not really a slow burn romance, but heated hate in each episode and it is still burning. Evil ML? He is ruthlessly righteous. Not evil. Amnesia? It is strategic amnesia.
A 2025 cdrama having an amnesia trope is a recession indicator
At least in this drama, the amnesia has a logical cause, not some magic-induced gimmick used as a lazy plot device.
First, she truly suffered head trauma after the fall. Alongside that, she experienced significant psychological distress. Don’t you think the only thing she forgot is everything related to SZY? He’s the one she had feelings for, and also the one she hated deeply. SZY represents her most painful memory. So, I understand this amnesia as a form of psychological defense.
Second, based on her flashbacks, she might have realized that the man she married is not the third prince. In the beginning, she only claimed to be his supposed bride through deduction. She still remembers her identity and her mission clearly. So, to some extent, she is deliberately pretending certain things to proceed with her plan.
Very well written on all of the characters. I agree, though I put the drum on hold because I’m tired of her…
I think it's because the most important person in JTH's life is still her younger brother. So, she weighs everything with him as the priority, even over other matters. It makes sense, since her brother is still under Empress Lv's control. Until he gains more freedom, JTH won't feel truly secure.
However, I somehow see some hints that he would be helped by that guy who seems to be Empress Lv's right-hand. Because he looked at JTH's brother with empathetic eyes in the previous episode. And, so far, JTH's brother is "okay" despite difficulties he must face. Somebody must secretly protect him from serious danger.
Some people complain about why Taohua doesn't just tell the truth. Even in the novel Taohua never say anything…
I agree with you. However, some viewers don't follow this logic behind the story. They are too fed up with drama, with prolonged miscommunication among leads that frustratingly drags the plot. They cannot differentiate between unnecessary miscommunication and functional concealment of information that serves a narrative purpose.
not my innocent brain cells initially thought that the emperor asked the ml to play rowing with the palace guards…
That particular scene is somewhat tragic in my view. We always think SZY is the most powerful, but above him, there is the emperor who controls and tortures him as he wishes. SZY is not free.
If you actually enjoy it, just be honest. We can discuss this drama in a more appreciative and productive manner.
If you really hate it, why haven't you dropped it already? If you stay here just to criticize this and that, aren't you wasting your time and energy on useless things?
