I am so sorry. but people defending that ending with their whole chest saying there is zero room for confusion…
I am so sorry for asking this. Does everyone really need to understand editing and film language just to grasp the meaning of a story in a drama? Why do you insist on imposing your own phenomenology onto the experiences of others who find this drama understandable and enjoyable?

is this drama really this bad? I've never seen a score like this
No, it is not bad. Not perfect, yes, just like other dramas. If you know the famous "The Double", this drama is also directed by the same person.

I mean, what do you wish to see for you to be satisfied, maybe things that you really want to see, but you don't find them/ the drama don't show them to you so you cannot see them?

It wasnt brought up because those specific thing was exclusive to PA adaptation, we dont know if they couldnt…
Lets have some mind experiment.

In the Fozen Lake, what would have happened had the director of PA had chance to add one more episode? Just 1 episode more!

In my imagination: PA would have a happy ending rather than a tragic cliffhanger.

Play these scenes in your imagination:

Chu Qiao leaped out of the frozen lake with her hidden martial technique activated. It may feel like a deus ex machina, but with it, she managed to save herself and pull Zhuge/ Yuwen Yue out of the lake.

Chu Qiao flied to Yan Xun and defeated him and the rest of the army single-handedly. She is the strongest martial artist there after her power activated.

Chu Qiao then back to Yuwen Yue, and transferred half of her inner energy to protect him from hypothermia. Yuwen Yue is no longer in critical condition and open his eyes.

Chu Qiao took Yuwen Yue go away. They were now enemies of Yanbei and Great Wei. They got married and lived together in seclusion in cold Ximeng. They lived happily ever after.

The story end here, happily like a typical wuxia story. It is what would have happened logically had they followed our wishes about the tattoo, and the hidden power things. It satisfying for the romance and adventure. Problem in personal and interpersonal levels are solved.

However, there would be a letdown. This trajectory don't solve the political problems which is exactly where the core theme of PA lies. The idea of justice and freedom from oppression and violence is what bring PA's story to existence.

The hypothetical happy ending I presented would rise questions in the head of those with critical mind. But maybe not problem for those who don't care anything but romance and cool hidden power.

Rebirth took exactly the other direction. They aimed to solve the political problem left hanging in PA, too. I don't have access to the director and the real story writer minds. But, after some thinking, I can understand why they removed the wuxia things from the sequel and to re-adaptation to PA and made some adjustment in the background story. Following what fans wishes would risk the story: (1) they must invented a brand new wuxia story with no reference in the IP novel, (2) the story would be highly predictable with less things to explore. The next journey would be short (Chu Qiao is a super power girl now, no more room for character development).

So, in Rebirth, they moderated her power, made her just a human with flesh and blood, without hidden power that would turn her into a Mary Sue.

That is my analysis. Hope you can follow my thoughts and ease your disappointment.

Admittedly, the tattoo and hidden power are cool and the most mysterious thing in PA. At first, I wish to see this power again, but for Rebirth that is grounded more in political realiasm and aim for solving societal problems (slavery, oppression, currupt elites, exploitation), I realize, this power would become an anomaly that hurts viewers with healthy mind.

Today I continue watching this drama because my niece want to watch it. While Watching the ending of Rebirth again…
I only know the ending, official in Iqiyi. That is really satisfying. I feel the same.

Or maybe is there a chance you are affected by people comments about the ending before? Because I know, some people commented and added controversies to the discussion. They said it is bad ending: Zhuge Yue died, Chu Qiao died. They also said it is an open ending, the ending is a dream of Yan Xun. Some even said, it is a bittersweet: Yan Xun and Zhuge Yue in their old time, without Chu Qiao.

6.5 rating. That’s beyond crazy. 😭I was planning on watching it. This is like Love and Crown all over again.…
It is not a mess. Most people just don't have the patient, and jump into conclusion, judging things immediately.

If you plan to watch, you may try 5 first episode and see it yourself. Your own experience is the most important than people's saying. You may help youself by reading positive review, so you understand opinions from both sides.

is this drama flop for real, story wise? i was putting this on hold, planning to watch it :(
Not real. The story is very good (my personal opinion, I have finished it).

Just people do their job very well in criticizing this drama. When the rating hits 6, you know how ridiculous it has become already, how biased they are.

You may try first 5 episodes. If you are okay, you can always continue. But, if you don't, no problem. We all have different taste and preference. The most importang thing is our own experience and enjoyment, not what people say about what to like and what to hate.

I have come back. Iqiyi in my country is late in airing new episodes. Episode 40 arrived today! For me, the ending is satisfying. It is really a happy ending! All open knots are now tightly tied. The beginning meet the ending in a full circle.

Thank you for your company. I enjoy every discussion with you. Happy watching the next drama.

lol - I found ep 1 disconnected. So I went back and watched Princess Agents again. Almost done - to ep 56. So…
The production is actually very decent. Technically, in general, no complains about the lighting, setting, styling, costume, make up, line delivery, and believability of those who play the roles of military general. If you follow the discussion of "foundation general" and "Marry Sue female generale" controversies of other drama, this drama might give it a laugh at because it is more realistic. They don't use filter to faces. Dirty face is dirty. Blood is bloody.

Scenes are beautifully shot. Some scenes are highly aesthetic, especially with panoramic view. Fight scenes are good but not highly choreographed like wuxia. The battle scenes in open spaces are the ones falling short. But, it happened in other dramas as usual.

Episode 1 and 2 is admittedly a bit hard to follow because it serves not only as an introduction but also a bridge between PA and Rebirth. It has many flashbacks and people perceived it as chaotic. But, with previous knowledge of PA, this bridge can be easily passed by. The differences in cinematography, editing, etc. are inevitable because the director has its own style in storytelling.
