Visually- an extremely soothing, pleasure to watch. Its cinematography is top notch, one of the bests in recent times.

Story wise - I really wish they could explore the political storyline better.. The whole Lin'an arc was so enjoyable, even slow bits were'nt boring at all. But they lost me when the story shifted towards politics and so many things were happening at once without any proper explanations... It was like I'm watching a different drama. So many unrealistic events, plotholes, slow pace that can't be overlooked.

the production team and writer were really brave to produce this, this will not be everyone's cup of tea and for sure some tried to watch but get overwhelmed with how the characters were introduced especially for international viewers then drop it ('cause that's a lot of characters for the first few eps). only those who were committed to watch this type of genre will stick around. and it's worth it. it's so good! to that person who posted this on Facebook, thank you. This is a gem

I don’t really understand why she’s so angry with him in that scene. It’s around episode 17, when they’re talking about their future by the jetty. At first, they’re saying things like “I hope you find a good partner,” which already feels a bit emotional and tense, so it makes sense that it turns into an argument.

But then he opens up and explains his situation, that someone is trying to kill him, and that it’s basically a matter of either they die or he does. He’s not rejecting her, he’s being honest about the danger he’s in. When he asks her to give him a year, it actually sounds like he does want to be with her, but knows he can’t right now because he needs to deal with this first.

That’s why her reaction confuses me. To me, it feels like he’s expressing his feelings and asking her to wait, not pushing her away. I would’ve expected her to feel reassured or even hopeful, rather than angry. So I don’t quite get what she’s really upset about in that moment.

I gave in and I'm rewatching, ep1-17 its honestly 10/10 for me.
Makes me sad for what could've been with the second half.

Am I the only one who felt that the female lead lost her charm a little after she became general? She's super…
Her character has shortcomings. Scriptwriters/directors could have put more effort to make her more coherent. She just took decisions on her own and in war with the responsibility of other's lives it comes across as arrogance and silliness. All the same is an excellent character for TXW and a great series.

Am I the only one who felt that the female lead lost her charm a little after she became general? She's super cute in the start but I felt she got a little carried away after she became a general, having a lot of pride. Also a little unrealistic because no matter how good you are in fighting, you need to have experience in planning war strategies to be a general. Tho I still enjoy the drama overall

Why is Zhang Ling He credited as lead in this one? Isn't he more of a supporting role?

This drama had the potential to be a masterpiece. The politics was messy and not as fleshed out as it should have been, and I blame the 40-episode cut-off. It would have been better if they had gone the route of Lost You Forever and Flourished Peony and made this a two-part drama.

I will give this drama some credit, though, the romance, cinematography, fight scenes (I wish there was more) and acting was well done, so for that reason alone, I'll rate it a 9.5.

I just finished ep 39. One thing I don't like about some dramas is how they're building up this upcoming battle for the throne and once it finally comes, the villain gets defeated in just a few minutes.

After the village arc the MAIN male character became a side character, main female character initially had a story as to how she was becoming a general but suddenly one fine episode she is a general how and when no idea. Last 10 episodes was very poorly written. Main focus should have been main couple, but their story was rushed . Preview of each episode in last 10 episodes had main couple scenes , everybody is tempted to watch those episodes but whatever of the main couple shown on preview only that much is shown in the episode , short scenes , nothing more than that. Rest of the episodes concentrated on side characters. Even the ending our leads deserved a proper ending , but it was rushed and non satisfactory. Even the alternative life main leads were not explored.
So my question is were txw and zlh just a name sake main leads?

Ok so i have to say this: i don't like the story letting changyu act wreckless and even take liberties with everyone's right to choose, without consequences. Like the first time she kidnaps yuanqing and holds him hostage for food we find out he anyway would've been rescued from that place by his people if she hadn't done that. Next she drugs her husband and ends up killing the sui big rock. Next she knocked wenkan and took down the rebel prince. Like she ends up getting rewarded and no lessons learnt for her amateur wrecklessness done out of good intentions. I love her but this is becoming an annoying pattern.

Yan Zheng had more fighting scenes while severely injured, coughing up blood at intervals, as Changyu’s matrilocal…
IKR! After seeing how well and impressively handled the fight scenes here and there in town arc, his combat scenes were honestly one of the things I was most looking forward to from the moment he returned to duty with full power and authority, but no.

Even his confrontation with his uncle was so awkwardly timed; Although I'm a fan of well-choreographed 1v1 duels, it took me a while to process the moment they suddenly drew swords against each other, after having stood against QM like allies. You would have laughed if you had seen my confused face at that moment. I was like 'Wait.. What? Really? Right now?' 😂 When I came to my senses, I had to rewind the duel to see the moves I couldn't focus on.
