I can understand some people's disappointment ,but it's not that they didn't wanted to bring the previous cast .The previous cast are now more focused on mainstream dramas ,even if you find princess agents masterpiece still it's a idol drama ,and most of the previous cast are now almost 40. Now you might think then why didn't they make sequal after princess agents ?The drama even the novel faced plagiarism issue ,You can search it yourselves .It took many years to solve that .And why didn't they cast popular actors ?Let's be honest ,even if they did choose popular actor actress ,still there will be comparisons .Just like there are many viewers who find LYR unsuitable let alone the other casts and the main thing ,agent of any popular star wouldn't take the risk by letting their artist being in sequal of a popular drama .LYR has good friendship with the producer Zhang Meng so i can understand why he took it and when he started filming ,he wasn't popular yet .Zhang Meng is the same person who produced blossom. Apart from him ,Li Meng (also HYTT ,she is a child actress )most casts are new or less experienced actor actresses .Because only their team can take the risk .Yes i said before their acting might not satisfy you like PA ,also they only showed the flashback shortly ,not in details so the nostalgia wouldn't be same,You won't able to understand the feelings only watching the flashback ,so i will suggest you to watch PA first .But please be respectful ,saw a comment 2 days ago calling the casts as low class actors just because they aren't popular ,then another comment asking are they nepo kids as most of the casts are new. So you don't want newcomers to get a chance ?If they don't get chance how will they improve ? Or do you want to see same actor actress doing similar genre continuously ? Chinese industry has become more competitive ,only popular one's or the one's with good backers gets the chance because investors doesn't want to invest on someone who can't carry the data of the drama .In the end many artists ended up in vertical and short drama .This is my last comment ,it's better for me to not come in this page to watch it peacefully .There was a chance that it wouldn't air because of HYTT's issue .Even though it was clarified but many people still don't believe it and boycotting the drama ,giving neg rating on douban,the rating on douban would be mess sure .I am glad at least it is airing .
A good start for this drama. Yes, I do think the actress is a bit young but see how it goes. Li Yun Rui for sure..looking forward to his actings in this drama. Zhang Kang Le is good in his character and I can understand if he wanted revenge based on what Yan Xun experienced. The pace of this drama is ok so far.

From episode 1 I still believe to fully understand the drama you would have to read the novel or watch princess agents , just because of the emotions, relationships and background it builds in detail. For me personally princess agents is one of my top cdrama along with ten thousand miles of peach blossom. It is a drama that means a lot to me and I was truly invested in the story and characters. For me PA was too epic, even though after they filmed it they banned the fact that she is a transmigrator , I see the ban holds for this drama as well. It is hard for me to let go of the cast that brought to life the characters in the novel so majestically in PA. I was really hoping to see from the lake scene cliffhanger onwards live , but I had not realized until now how attached I am to PA. If anyone is interested in reading the novel as well , you may find it as Special Agent Imperial Concubine (11处特工皇妃) by Xiao Xiang Dong Er which is also referred to above in this drama description. The novel is beautifully well written and worth it if you enjoy reading. I wish everyone a happy viewing, I know many were eagerly waiting for this drama and the wait is finally over.
I absolutely agree on the 3 key moments you've mentioned because those are exactly the opportunities they can use to show growth on the main lead's relationship & their characters. I was probably looking for more angst given that there's secret identity, there's FL's father (traitor) and the political plot. Ugh!

Honestly, those who have watched Fated Hearts know that Pursuit of Jade isn’t better. The Lin’an arc was really good and made it seem like the rest would be even better, but that wasn’t the case in the end.
Xie Zheng didn’t have the same charisma as Feng Sui Ge. He was supposed to be a feared general, and in Fated Hearts, they actually showed us why: his strength, intelligence, and abilities were clearly highlighted. You could truly feel why he made his enemies tremble. In that drama, we saw the most savage side of each character, especially Feng Sui Ge.
In Fated Hearts, we get a lot of depth for both protagonists: the fights, the aura, the chemistry, the suspense, the betrayals, the plot twists everything was there.
In Pursuit of Jade, on the other hand, the imbalance between the characters is too noticeable. Xie Zheng feels more like a secondary character in Changyu’s story, and Changyu’s rise as a general was rushed and inconsistent.
The main strengths of the drama are definitely the cinematography, the first part that develops the romance, and the visuals of the cast. But honestly, in terms of plot, it’s still weaker than dramas like The Double or POB.

So... Yes. She doesn't deserve to be a general. That was kind of the point. She killed the big bad, so obviously she deserves some reward for it, but general is a lot. That role requires responsibility. She became a general, as least in the show, because of he people in power. They want to manipulate her, as someone who is seemingly tied to no faction. You have Xie zheng who is for the Wei, and Li Huai'an who is for the Li. That's why officials in that knighting ceremony or whatever, were hesitant to give her a higher role, cause despite her success on the battle field, she was also a woman. They would never give that role to a woman. Wei Yan convinced the king to give her a role so he could have control over here. And honestly, I think people were made generals too easily back in other shows. Consider how incompetent they are, you think she really can't be?
You will find many similar Dramas like poj 'such as: Wonderland of love, a journey to love, legend of female general. Watch these serises and honestly you will find these even better than poj.
No offence but the female character fo poj's development doesn't make sense to me. Initiall y she is illiterate ;she doesn't even know her parents real identity nor dose she shows any curiosity to know them. It is understandable that at first she was not a clever person but she should have at least portray the characters being clever gradually . It is kinda weird that she was a fool or illiterate at first and then suddenly without any schooling or going through any major occurrence and without anyone's guidance she became a general though the show didn't describe her character as a self learner like those characters who plans for a long time and prepare themselves in a planned way . It would have been acceptable if the story first like after enduring hardship the male and female lead finally can be together or are together but turning her to a general out of Nowhere is kind of weird. The show described her character as not clever but in the end they turned her into a general. You know a general without witt........ is hardly acceptable. There are many loop holes like this in the story.In short the story is not basically a super good story and the story line is pretty common. In this aspect story line of The Legend of female general is even better than Poj.

After that disappointing finale, i don't care about the 'absolutely no logic' moments like killing of ShiHu and Lord Changxin, which were many. (you telling me a women, though with martial arts, who was at the battlefield for the fkn first time, killed a general who was basically tempered by battles, and was a mountainous figure, in two strikes and was able to come back alive? You kidding me? XieWu, who knew nothing but battles crumbled with a single strike by that man, and she killed him! And i don't even want to get started with Lord Changxin's death🤦🏻♀️). I am not against women establishing themselves on the battlefield, but bro, make it make sense. If she was tempered in battles, and she knew the battle tactics, she was taught to be general and taught how to lead armies to the battle, i would gladly accept it. But No!!! She killed 2 people which was unbelievable even with the plot armour, and became a 1st rank official in the end? Fkn first rank!? I was even okay with 4th rank, but i lost it at that purple robe💁🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️. I don't care about justice to WeiQilin, who, even though FL's father, i couldn't care less as they didn't even show anything that was conclusive or proper introduction to his story.
I just want justice to be served to WeiYan. I am not asking for no punishments, but to only punish for what he did not for what others did. He lost his lover, he lost his little sister who thought it was her brother's selfishness that led to her husband's fall. A lonely man enduring everything for 18 long years. I cried for him. With his death, he was finally able to free himself and to go join his lover, sister and a best friend of a brother-in-law. But to the world? He bore more than he should. He carried three families' grievances with him for 18 years, three loyal families- Wei, Xie and Qi, who were played like toys by the ruler they were loyal to. But in the end, he stayed silent balming himself and his words.
Ahh! Came here just to vent my grievance🤧. And for all the above reasons giving it a liquid 8.5.

This is a historical piece so there is A LOT of dialogue and exposition. It is not only entertaining, but historical so I learned about the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms during the 10th century.
I recommend only watching two episodes per day. It is overwhelming with facts and dialogue.
For those that like Game of Thrones, this series could be for you. Dynasties rise and dynasties fall and it usually is at the expense of the noble women (e.g. Lady Chu), and the common people.
