I posted this not to make anybody avoid the comparison with PA but to look at it more on the original script (novel) POV :)

1. The actress HTT is a real person, not some clickbait. She started working in the industry at the age of ten. It is insanely difficult for child actors to graduate to adult roles because directors get stuck in stereotypes when they cast. She is a professional actress and this is a good break for her. Dont ruin her chance just for lack of something better (and certainty more truthful) to say about the drama.

2, She was of age. Filming was scheduled to start in dec24/Jan25. She reached legal majority in july of 25. In China she probably was informally already considered to be in the 18yrold cohort. Every legal precaution was surely taken care of.

3. Yes, the lovely Li Yun Rui was born in 96. The gods have blessed him with an ageless face. HTT is from '07, ZKL is from '01. BUT since they are actors, it is ok for them to play all sorts of ages in their roles. The actual question is not, is HTT too young, but is LYR too old? Of course not, we all roar with one voice!

The weird thing abt all this is, we are writing on an Asiandrama list. The most well-worn popular trope in Asian drama is Daddy's girl. The man who loves you forever. Fictional age-gap is this industry's bread-and-butter.

RL age-gaps between MLs/FLs happen for all kinds of bts commercial reasons. There are protocols in the industry. I am not saying get over it, but there are some serious fictional age-gaps out there that all these haters could really get their teeth into. Why are they here, in this little drama?

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I’m really glad they didn’t dive too deeply into Princess Agents. This drama deserves to stand on its own without dragging back all the negative attention that came with PA — those who know, know 👀💬.
As for the age gap discussion: Huangyang Tian Tian is doing an amazing job! 🌟 Considering she was only 17/18 during filming, I don’t expect many (or any) kissing or intimate scenes between her and Li Yun Rui — and honestly, that’s totally fine with me.

Just look at Allen Ren: he’s done plenty of romance dramas with little to no intimate scenes, and they’re still incredible. 💫
For me, as long as the acting is strong and the storyline is compelling, I’m fully here for it ❤️📺 i loved PA and Im Loving Rebirth so Far

Dang, I’m enjoying this drama four episodes in. Huang Yang Tian Tian is a fine young actress. She really does bear an uncanny resemblance to the young Zhao Li Ying.

So, if I understand correctly, Princess Agents did not have license to adapt the original novel so they changed the names of the characters.

Rebirth is actually written or somehow licensed by the author of the novel, so the characters' names are not changed, and the whole look of the production etc presumably is also blessed by her. I really like the restricted and powerful use of color.

The actor who plays Yan Xun has the right aura and look to heat up his scenes, but he seems a little raw, beyond the character's portrait, so yeah...My favorite female character so far is the Helian general, male character is expected to be Li Yun Rui's Zhuge Yue.

Unlike other cdramas featuring a mainly young cast, the main characters are cleanly drawn and easy to tell apart. A real author at work, I suspect, but casting is precise too.

My only complaint, as always, is I need a better map, literally a map, of the mountains and roads to visualize any military campaign. Northwest, southeast, whatever, where is the Meilin Pass?

Comparisons are always odious! So why compare one to the other? We should be grateful to be able to see the continuation of that wonderful story, something we were deprived of back then. Don't you remember the frustration we felt that year? So, for my part, the new Chu Qiao is perfectly entitled to the role; she was the young Chu Qiao in the first version. As for the new Zhuge Yue, he's playing him very well; I'd even say he's a more attractive version of the first actor who played him. There's even a certain resemblance between them in their bearing and gestures, all things considered. So, my dear girls, watch this drama with kind eyes and don't be so cutthroat, okay? i watched PA last month, not 10 years ago when it came out, so it's pretty fresh, yes first episode i thought about the other actors, only ZLY and Shawndou(and Deng Lun) , cos the ml was so stiff back then...but by ep 2 i was immersed in those new ones,
In PA Achu was played by a 27 years old woman portraying a 17 y/o... and they critisize a 17 years playing a 20years old having no depth😅, and i didn't know before starting that she was the incredible younger version of achu back then, so she does have some experience and a suitable one at that...

Some will say the acting was amazing in PA, it was good but not consistant, some scenes were incredible while others were just ok etc... they didn't do a second season back then and they could not have the same actors playing the same roles so it's just nostalgia...
Now that being said, i don't know how those not having seen PA will understand everything, they didn't even explain like with a voice off at the starts the set up, like the bases, the regions, main characters etc... and they keep redoing the scenes so people will understand(but it must be confusing 🤔) , which means less new stuff...

I did drop Princess Agents last year bc for some reason, I got bored... but at the same time, I do remember liking some things about it. I dropped it cuz I guess I just wasn't in the mood for it? I remember I wanted to keep going tho for at least the 2ML cuz I really loved him but I just ended up dropping it in the end. I decided to pick it back up again from the beginning (I didn't watch that many eps before dropping it) bc of Rebirth sequal and so far, so good. Ofc I won't have the highest expectations bc of my initial impression on it. I know the production value isn't that great cuz I mean, it was released in 2017 so it makes sense! Tbh, I used to think in my head that if the production value looks bad, then I most likely won't watch it but lately, I don't think about it as much and try focusing on the story instead. I actually hate that I used to think this way cuz there are a lot of masterpieces with not the best production quality so don't hold back if quality looks bad bc story and plot is the most important thing! The production value of PA isn't the worst tho. It's still bearable. And I don't hate it tbh. I like it more than I thought! But anyways, I watch 3 eps so far without getting bored so that's something. I do remember not being in the ML sadly and had SLS and I prob will end up having that but let's see if that'll change... Ppl told me that if I wanna feel/empathize with the characters for Rebirth, I should watch PA first because everything that happens in PA are events that happened BEFORE Rebirth. And tbh I decided to try watching again bc of that. Hope I'll be able to finish it this time despite it being 58 episodes!

She may be younger, but her acting feels sincere and emotional. Maybe instead of comparing too much, we can appreciate both versions of the character.”

Damn,people are still complaining?😒. I just want to put this out there
1. If you’re still unsure whether to keep watching,you can either give it a couple of more episodes or drop it.
2. Chu qiao was barely in her teens when she was sold to slavery & had to fight of the wolves,until zhuge yue saved her.
3. She was barely 17-18,when she joined Yan xun & his army and also her being a general.
4. Yan xun didn’t save her,as the synopsis says on here,it was rather zhuge yue who did during the wolf hunt & also kept her in the mansion,even taught her a lot of martial art skills and other things.
5. The actress portrays chu qiao very well,as CQ’s character doesn’t show emotions,rigid,cold even. It has nothing to do with her acting as it’s how chu qiao is. Whether you want to watch PA or not is entirely up to you,cos chu qiao in PA didn’t show any emotions just like this drama.
6. If you REALLY can’t stand this drama,it’s okay to drop it,but some of you are very rude on here which sucks out the fun in the comments as we’re all here to discuss the story and come up with theories.
7. We’re ONLY 5 episodes in,so offcourse what you’re expecting won’t happen from the start,there’re still 35 more episodes to go & a LOT to unpack 🙂.

No she didn't like both men and she didn't realize her feelings for Yuwen Yue till late in the drama. However, he was always there to protect her. She sided with Yan Xun because of how much he suffered and the injustice he endured. She wanted regime change and she detested the current empire so she wanted to help Yan Xun to conquer Yan Bei so he can establish peace. But Yan Xun changed and became a lot more savage after the massacre of his family, which the FL didn't expect. At the end of season 1, Yan Xun used Yuwen Yue's love for Chu Qiao to lure him to kill him. In Rebirth, they changed the last scene. I liked the PA version a lot more, you can just watch Ep 58. The FL battles against a lot of soldiers to try to save Yu wen Yue. The scene is also imo more heartbreaking in PA when she realized she caused his ambush. You should just watch ep 58 of PA :)

Watched 4 episodes and will continue watching.
- Started for Xiaolin. Liked him since Blossom. He has not failed me 😊
- not a fan of love triangle and Zhang Kangle is a cutie to be disliked (anyone goes against ML's wish is my enemy 🤭). I am glad that it is not the case.
- did not watch PA or plan to, since it was produced almost 10 years ago. I reckon it is a marvelous drama (with amazing castline) but the production quality was as expected from that year (watched some scenes of episodes randomly)
- watched the FL for the very first time and based on the character personalities, the actress has so far portrayed her role nicely. I saw the clips where she trained hard in BTS and it paid off on screen. The fight scene with General Huan was good. The sword plays really delivered. My wuxia (martial arts related) heart always prefers hand-in-hand combat style.
- the first episode was rather fast paced with story of the past which made it feel like a messy plot being thrown my way but with more episodes, the story started to build nicely.

I definitely agree with you,normally I barely come on MDL nor be in the comment section as it can be filled with a lot of rude & hateful people.
I’m only active when a drama I really like is airing & even that I barely comment. But since I’ve been looking forward to this drama,I decided to get active again and then,I come on here and see people being very negative with toward the actress,the ML or the story,when it just began.
I’m only watching cos I know the age of chu qiao in the novel & I think the age of the actress suits the novel chu qiao great.
They may or may not be exactly new or famous actors,but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t give them a chance. It’s a damn if you do & damn if you don’t on here 😐.
So this will probably be my last time commenting on here & just continue enjoying the drama & rate every episode as it goes,cos at the end of the day,everyone worked hard on their roles & they deserve credit for it.
