You make a point I do agree. Even though this drama title Princess's Gambit, I feel the ML is the real hero because…
Nope. Originally she can outsmart him, pretentious, naughty, and she handles everything by herself. Which is why Zaiye needs her to execute his plans, but she doesn't need his help to save her life. The screenwriter downgraded Taohua so much that she became a helpless, weak and reckless. I once said Taohua is so similar with Hua Liuli (RR), but after watching the drama, she became a different person.

I don't think so. Her character is the same as in the book, just less fiery and doesn't throw herself into his arms like in the book. Her way of surviving here in the drama is more elegant. And he, even in the book, is a man of ideals, they just took out those more questionable moments (both his and hers).

I think that's why the screenwriter changed the drama from female pov into male pov. He changed the FL's character so much that she becomes a completely different person, while making the ML such a sweetheart.
I'm enjoying this series thus far. The ML gives me all the feels. Grayish morals. A good guy willing to do bad things for the greater good. When swimming in a sea of sharks, you can't be a goldfish.
The female lead slightly annoys me. I like that she's cunning and can think fast. I appreciate her independence and survival skills. However, I'm deducting points for her demanding more of him than she gives of herself.
For example. They were both enemies when they met and he had to marry her. Because she was blatantly untrustworthy, he has his own survival skills and did what he thought he needed to do.
Once he got to know her a bit more, he actually let his guard down and began trusting her, and even falling in love with her. But she NEVER trusted him, took for granted the fact that he trusted her and expected him to continue to trust her even when she did certain things that would make it hard for anyone to trust her. She wanted him to trust her just because she told him to and all the while never trusted him enough to be honest or seek his help.
That's why she ended up in the situation she did by ep. 23.
I liked her up until episode 18, in this episode she said some very hurtful things to her husband, she’s not coming clean when he has given every sign that he trusts her and will help her. The writers are just trying to make extra drama and it just pissing me off
So I took a day off from Asian dramas to watch The Sandman 2 and The old guard 2, in one day. They were both amazing…
Personally, i have different standards for Thai, Japanese, Thai, Korean, Turkish, Indian and western shows/movies. If I judge, for example, Thai dramas with Cdramas standards I won't be able to enjoy Thai dramas anymore! The same goes for Cdramas when it comes to hollywood. Each environment produces something different and unique strengths and flaws.

Despite some flaws, I prefer sensitivity to crudeness. And I prefer clichés that value heroism, rather than the highest point of technique without sensitivity, without distorting a hero we know at the beginning to turn him into a monster in the end. I prefer this technique (perhaps not refined in some points, but in others, very refined), but which still values the poetry of the moment, the beauty in small details. And which transforms someone who could turn into a monster to make him human in the end. (And because they chose a masterful actor, with so much beauty and so much nuance, that makes it even more unique to me).🌸👏😊
The trailers for 20-27 got me so nervous but I sucked it up and continued watching. So far it isn't as bad as the trailers make it out to be. Yes, there's the selective amnesia trope, yes there's still the mystery and intrigue and yes, our leads have not gotten together yet. While I am hoping the leads will get over this obstacle and finally get together and work together, it does make sense for two people who have grown up to be cautious to take things slow, even trusting each other. Yes, some parts a bit draggy but I'm still enjoying this drama!
I watched The Old Guard 1 last night. It was a great action movie. Looking forward to watching 2 soon. Anyway,…
No worry I totally agreed with your original post. I come cross some good insights of many C-dramas here at MDL, but I see too many negatives recently, so I don't read comments often, however today I saw this, I just felt like writing to you ✌️ I watch mainly C- drama....haha

Don’t get me wrong. I love cdramas. My post was meant for those who are constantly complaining about every single error. Don’t expect too much and you won’t be disappointed. My world is only cdramas and 15% kdramas and 5% the real world lol.

I watched The Old Guard 1 last night. It was a great action movie. Looking forward to watching 2 soon. Anyway, I kind of understand what you wrote. But I guess historical C-drama are many based on actual events, that's why they all come out something similar. Story of palace politics, wars, political marriage, wars among concubines and its backup, game of throne grabbing and so one. Therefore, these are the dramas currently popular among C-viewers, so it may continue as long as there are demands from its people.
BTW, I am a fan of C-drama, especially historical dramas. Bcoz they are something out of this modern world. I know many has flaws but I am so used to them 😂 If it's fiction, I recommend ' Three body' and ' Ripe Town'. These are very unique C-drama and entertaining. I don't know if they are Oscar worthy but I like them very much!
So I took a day off from Asian dramas to watch The Sandman 2 and The old guard 2, in one day. They were both amazing but Sandman really stood out for me as it was a fantasy genre and watching it I kept thinking like what if cdramas were like this. My point is the complaints about the script and everything else has me snorting. Cdramas still has a long way to go with perfect scripts, perfect direction, and better yet, perfect actors. It’s not like we’re looking at Oscar winning dramas over here. We all knew what we were getting into once we’ve delved into the world of cdramas. There have been a few that I would deem Oscar worthy but that’s just my opinion. My point is that all your complaints are futile. From my experience with Cdramas, they are not perfect, they will always follow the same storyline, the same trope, repeatedly. You just pick something that comes close to your expectations and roll with it. If your expectations are more than that then good luck. While watching The Sandman, all I could think of was why can’t cdramas be this good? They’ve got so much potential but I think there’s still a long way to go before it gets there. So enjoy what you’re watching now with no expectations and enjoy it or move along to a different drama as I’ve always done. This way you won’t be disappointed. I still love my cdramas and will continue watching them including this because LX is such a brilliant actor that makes every minute discrepancy disappear into thin air. The force is definitely strong with him. Peace ✌️I do have to say though that Charlize Theron could have taken sword lessons from our cdrama, action directors 😂
This is really good. Intense suspense most of the time, and I never know what will happen. great actors too. Can’t remember seeing Gao Han as a villain before
And he, even in the book, is a man of ideals, they just took out those more questionable moments (both his and hers).

Also, I hate amnesia tropes.
