This drama is not hitting the spot for me!! I feel like they cast the wrong actress to play a demanding character…
The problem is many of these dramas are lifted from novels that are targeted to young teenagers/young women and when adapted they look Disney-esk because it's now viewed to a wider audience, and this one no different.

They will stretch reality to such a manner that is fit for a child to watch. Anyone over the age of 21 will just watch as a fantasy. Of course young female audiences want to see the most smallest and delicate play a "man's" traditional role & be amongst the men. Boss them about and give them a good telling off. It's pure fantasy with lots of hope. Truth is, these storylines exist because in reality, it's the polar opposite of the storylines inside the novels.

This drama is not hitting the spot for me!! I feel like they cast the wrong actress to play a demanding character like a general leading an ARMY, she just simply doesn't have that aura around her so it's hard to really believe that she can lead an entire army.
You see, this is where I find Chinese dramas lacking. The actors don't even look like they fit the characters they are playing. They could've made her look taller, make her gain weight and muscle, put her in a suit, ..etc to fit the physique of a military man. At least the ML has some muscles going on and he's not the usual skinny model playing soldier..

She’s acting a bit too childish at the moment, and I’m really looking forward to seeing her enter her true…
This is adapted from a novel aimed at a target audience. When it's made into a drama, inevitably it will look a bit weird to a wider audience. No doubt, it was made this way for leeway of growth like novels of that type.

I cringe when I watch these episodes of the her prancing around the commander. They want females to be themselves, and sadly that consists of being chid-like, pre-pubescent. Note this is not an accident but through years of a male dominated world that have seeped into the mainstream and even female authors are unaware of being brainwashed.

Knowing this persona is to serve a purpose. Most likely trying to resonate with the target audience against a back-drop of an army setting. Unrealistic, I know. In reality, we all know she would need to modify herself, but the plot armour is firmly in place. I can bet, even when she's general, she will still maintain the silliness and the cutesy persona. Why? It's a Disney-esk version of a female general. We can't have a dusty-faced brute that doesn't shave and follow a ten step facial routine. That's for another kind of drama.

I really wished they had explored He Yan’s s upbringing in more depth and shown us her experiences as she went through everything in episode 1 Instead of just a few short scenes and jumping back and forth, it would’ve been more impactful to actually see what she endured. I understand the story was kept straightforward and to the point, and I also know some scenes were likely cut due to the situation with that actor—but even so, I’m sure they could’ve done something…

I know this is one of the awaited dramas but 8.7 for 12 episodes ? Def not real. I am planning to watch this after I finish another drama but now I am suspicious of this kind of hype and overrate.

You can say that again. I really don't get this 'disguised as a man' thing especially with such a voice (if we…
The drama feels like the entire cast and crew wanted to insult the viewers’ intelligence and it’s making me mad.

Maybe FL had connections with the casting director cuz there’s no way that picking her for this role makes sense.

So far nothing is believable

- as you said, the fact that she’s a general with that physical appearance.
- the fact that ml couldn’t tell that it was an imposter when they were in front of the emperor. Some said it’s because they hadn’t seen each other in a while but we can clearly see flashbacks of them studying together and they already had their adult bodies.
- she survived that fall from the cliff and had that sword pierced her chest but after a month in a coma she was perfectly fine.
- she’s in a camp full of soldiers but no one seems to realize that with her petite body that she’s a woman.
- there’s someone who knows medicine in the camp and even him can’t tell she’s a woman?
- she’s a respected general but no one knows what she looks like to the point where her brother can take over that easily, didn’t she have soldiers she trained with before? No one can tell?

The list goes on, it’s really hard to watch without having to shut down logic.

Hello, can you tell me why the reborn plot is banned in China? Is it against some major religion there? Thank…
Banning/censorship of rebirth dramas was not due to controlling the population. They were trying to prevent further tragedies from happening, because some of their young people were committing suicide in the hopes of having a chance to be reborn and start the lives all over.

This was because of the rebirth/reincarnation stories that were common in C-dramas back then.

I like the story but is so unrealistic, gender bending is always a bit of brain shut but this is too much

My bigger complain, I like Zhou Ye but shes not realistically good playing as a male,

1. Couldn't they could cast somebody thinner and shorter as her brother, she was replaced by a man taller and bigger and nobody noticed
2. ML knew her since childhood, never noticed her voice and actions?
3. Zhou ye has a very feminine face, soft features, thin body, short frame, she simply looks very feminine, putting her in a ponytail don't make her male looking
4. Acting, actually she's acting very girly, not cheerful but very girly, especially with ML, I don't think I saw as girly gender bending before
5. ML is one of more manly looking leads and looks like could fit as a general so FL alongside him looks even more ridiculous trying to play as a general

Like i said, you need some brain shut in every gender bending but this drama is making it impossible even with brain shut

Story wise is okey, I liked that ML find out she's a girl fast, I don't like when ML find out at the end or later part, I like that is fast placed too.

it's just starting only 4 eps if you're disappointed don't watch then but don't discourage others here
It’s a discussion forum, not a fan club. I’m allowed to be disappointed just like others are allowed to love it. If people can praise it after 1 episode, I can say I’m not feeling it after 4.

Kinda disappointed, tbh. I expected the drama to have a darker tone since it’s a revenge story, but there are way too many funny scenes that throw off the vibe. The FL is super goofy, and even if that’s part of her act, we as viewers should still be able to see glimpses of the sharp, strategic general underneath. Aside from her fighting skills, there’s not much that shows she’s meant to be a respected general in disguise.
