One of the best wuxia dramas in recent years. If you are a fan of wuxia, this is legit! It has many of the wuxia tropes; sects, court politics, secret arts, assassin's guide, youths who dream of justice and adventures, and especially; ranking and ranking of swords!! You can sing the national anthem of ‘Dugu Qiubai’ here lol. They certainly did not cheap out on the production nor the choreography, because it was just simply so beautiful. You can tell they spent ALOT of time on it.
The sword names, fighting, and even the details for all of it…hollyyyy crappp, this is wuxia’s fan wetdream. I'm really glad I didn’t watch it when it first came out, because I woulda gone crazy waiting for it. But now, I can binge it. You have to trust me, if you really love wuxia and appreciate great fight choreography and sequences, this show is a must!
Also, Li Hong Yi should really try out for ventriloquist, because for the whole freaking drama the biggest I see his mouth move is to this extent *o* it is like he talks in all lower cases I swear. If you take a shot for any time you can see his set of upper teeth, you can only be drunk after rewatching the whole drama 3 times. Lmaoo
Great drama!! I was hooked from the first episode, I must give a shout out to the fighting scenes, they have been the best I have watched! And the acting is amazing too.
two things i liked about this cdrama because it didn’t follow the usual tropes found in many costume/period…
it didn’t follow the usual tropes of: 1. a female childhood friend that is obsessively in love with a male lead. 2. a royal uncle or relative who is secretly evil or plotting for power in the background against his brother or nephews.
initially I was so skeptic about picking up the show but boy O boy, the show is just splendid. although there is nothing jaw dropping about the story, the fact that I didn't press fast forward in any of the episodes of the entire show means this show killed it. love the characters and I think the actors just smoothly dived into their characters and made them look alive.
I think there is a season 2 in the books and I hope they will bring the season 2 as soon as possible before people lose interest in the show.
To those complaining that the last arc is focused on Tianqi and the royal politics, isn’t that the point of the whole series? The story begins from Xiao Chuhe’s banishment from Tianqi. Everything is a build up to Xiao Se’s return to the imperial city. He is the core character that connects everyone else in the story. If you’re not rooting for Xiao Se as the ultimate main character of this drama, then I guess it would indeed be harder for you to enjoy this show.
Based on the comments here I honestly thought I’d be bored with the final arc but I was actually hyped throughout. I’ve long awaited the whole drama for Xiao Se to have an actual proper fight scene and I was extremely satisfied.
For the most part I think Li Hong Yi is perfect for the role of Xiao Se. Visually, he naturally exudes a majestic aura combined with his spot on acting in the cold / deep thinking / snarky parts. However, there are certain scenes that required more fierceness / heaviness from him which I found lacking at some points.
I agree that the lack of Wu Xin in the whole drama is indeed disappointing. I guess if the episodes weren’t limited to 40, there would’ve been more time to explore his character. Plus his character is way too OP, everything would be way easier for the other lead characters with him around. That said, my fave thing in this drama is the chemistry of the main trio so it’s really sad we didn’t get enough of it. Wishing really hard for a season 2!
Youku app SUCKS. I HATE IT. IT’S THE WORST. Why are viewers from certain regions forced to deal with their shitty app. Maybe don’t block the youtube access when your app is still incomplete? The sub font size on ipad is SO TINY. I watch this drama with my mom and we’re watching pretty much the same episode at the same time on separate devices. How stupid is that. Can’t even watch this drama on tv without turning to 🏴☠️.
I finished everything and it’s a 10/10 for me! Love all the characters including the antagonists. I love how the characters aren’t simply two-dimensional and even the villains are very interesting.
The production value of this drama is very impressive, from the costumes, props, down to the CGI. The fight scenes and how it was acted out felt super real and immersive despite the concept sounding ridiculous on paper. I really felt like I was legit watching a shonen anime (which probably should be a given since it literally says 少年 in the title lol).
Not really sold on how Xiao Se fell for Qianluo, I wish they gave it a more proper development than just Qianluo always running after Xiao Se and then bam he now also likes her. But it’s a very minor subplot so it doesn’t really matter on a grander scale.
I like that the ending didn’t feel rushed and the special ending tied everything up perfectly in a way that it could be the final ending for this series or it could also be a door for a possible follow up season.
I had no clue this was even Live Action. I have been watching the Donghua which is amazing with its artwork. A prequel has also been released to give us a backstory of sorts to some of the characters.
Eps 15 & 16 were so good! Silly and sweet, funny and serious. Mostly just Ye Xi & Bai Yue talking but it just hit right spot! It seems that he's resigned himself to love her and die for it now and he decided not to regret anything. I also love that they explained the connection between them.

I just watched this right after finishing nirvana in fire. The emperor made the same mistake, but at least in this one he was redeemable. I really loved everything about it. Xiao chuhe, was by far my favorite character. I love how confident and carefree he was. And he was also powerful in martial arts and in the court. He's style also never disappointed. And let's not forget about the humour. One of my favorite parts was when Xiao se and wuijie dressed up as girls. That was too funny. All in all, the ending was satisfying. It felt like something Xiao chuhe would do. I highly recommend
😅😅 in here MDL there’re a lot lot lot of K-dramas that are overrated, there’re some k-dramas which i…
Lol i agreed. Kdramas quality nowadays is pretty average. Just look at the on going kdramas right now. Nothing new and exceptional, early 2023 got the most average on going kdramas ever. Even the biased site like MDL gave low rating to most of on going kdramas right. Around 7+ rating. Just one or two who achieved above 8+.
Even korean historical dramas are also average. No one can beat chinese dramas in period costume, martial arts (wuxia), fantasy (xianxia), and historical genres. Cdramas is still the best in that field.
The new sageuk kdrama "Our Blooming Youth" is even adapted from chinese novel "The Golden Hairpin". Just like Mr Queen and Scarlet Heart Ryeo.
Chinese dramas are gaining more recognition day by day with their quality dramas from international market. And i am happy for it.
What would they even make a second season about. Everything is resolved.
Creativity never sleeps. Their adventures around the world perhaps?🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️ Anything is possible...in the meantime Wulin Heroes is making a buzz & Choice Husband is frustrating people so we shall indulge.😌🤧

If that's the case, I hope we see it in our lifetimes with the same actors. CN is notorious for dragging out sequels…
I think the bigger problem is the script. There is no novel in the second season. It is said that the protagonist in the second season is Xiao Zhang, XiaoSe's son.Xiao Zhang in China means swollen with arrogance. Because of his strong background, his son is named Xiao Zhang
