I 100% agree with every point you made. It was really disappointing imo. We only got crumb scenes of the main leads and spent hours and hours watching random useless new characters that didn't have any depth (not enough background info/insight on motivations/personality given). Like honestly I just kept hoping for them to die off already so we got to see more of the main leads again. The way they introduced them was so poorly done. One of the main reasons why I liked s1 so much before was that you actually got to connect with the characters on an emotional level and root for them amidst the horror. Yet this season, it was almost impossible to connect/care at all abt the new characters given the messy way they were introduced.
Also, I feel like the whole stadium subplot was so unnecessary. Like what did it bring to the story? Overall the plot was all over the place, and no answers were given. I understand they want to keep some mystery and lingering cliffhangers for s3, but proper storytelling comes with a balance of maintaining tension with some unresolved plotlines, whilst simultaneously providing resolutions to other ones (even if smaller). AND THEY GAVE US NO ANSWERS. They only gave us more random, seemingly unconnected, plotlines and questions. ughhhh the frustration
I really really wish we got more screen time with the main leads, especially Hyun soo. It feels so misleading to put him as the poster head, when he has less screen time than many of the side characters lol. If we are to be technical, he was infact a side character in his own show-- with just a few cameo appearances after ep 3.
Also wth happened with Jisu? Did she actually die? At first I thought she might have survived bc she was showing symptoms of monsterization (nose bleed in s1, and unclear if her hand was healing during the stadium entry checkpoint). But if she actually died, that was such a LAME way of killing off such an important character in s1. We didn't even get to see her body, and got no real closure from her death. Her character deserved better smh
but then it's weird how he acted in s1. He was completely indifferent towards her and shot her in s1 (and would have killed her without thinking twice, if hyun soo hadn't stoped him and killed the host he was in at the moment). Ik he is a monster and all, but wouldn't he have any lingering feelings/second thought towards his fiancee? What about when he saw her pregnant crying looking at his 'corpse'? Does he not feel anything at all/have any remains of emotions he once had when human? Or does he have no memories from before his lab torture at all?
This season really got on my nerves. I mean, the story is nice and all, but what happened to the main leads, like…
This. Like they could have added new characters and still give proper screen time to the main leads! If they reduced the amount of random new characters, and actually gave them depth (better insight into background, motivations, etc), and gives us more than crumbs of scenes with the s1 main leads, it would have been SO much better :( hope s3 is better in this regard
So far I'm on episode 5 and very disappointed. I came for Song Kang but I've barely seen him!! Plot is all over…
This!! The reason why I liked s1 so much was bc of how they still managed to explore characters motivations/personality while in an apocalyptic world. Like you could actually emotionally connect to the characters. But s2 has so many new random characters with little to no background info/depth, that makes you unable to become emotionally invested
Me most of s2: " Why tf am I watching hours of useless new random characters that I can barely tell apart, instead of the MCs?". Honestly, the worldbuilding and CGI were really good, but I don't understand why they introduced so many random new characters in a really poor manner (no real depth or enough background info on any of them). I was just frustrated the whole time waiting for the crumbs scenes with the actual main characters :')
agreed! It's so so good. I think it would have a 9.0+ MDL rating if it wasn't a remake. People are annoying af with downrating it bc of comparisons to the original. Which is a shame, because this is a masterpiece on its own
