Is anyone frustrated with the acting? I find it's sub-par, especially after watching Eternal Love.
I think the acting is fine and it's in line with the characters. It's not jarring or anything, which imo puts it on par with Eternal Love. If you brought up In the Name of People or The Qin Empire though, I would agree. But Eternal Love isn't exactly the standard you want them to be holding up to.
For people who are complaining about the dubbing, it's because they had to change the lines due to plagiarism…
Online novels tend to be not-so-original. The writer was apparently caught plagiarising lines from other novels and so they had to resolve the issues during post-production since everything was shot and filmed already. Perhaps it'll get better, I don't know.
I agree with anopinion's review. Plot was a bit too weak. Andrew Gregson was really awkward, the whole time…
On Andrew Gregson's acting, I think it's clearly intentional, but I'm not sure whether it's the right interpretation of the character. Sometimes I think it's alright, sometimes I think it's a bit too much.
I think the first few episodes were pretty engaging. From there on the writing sorta went downhill. I'm not too sure about the "corny" part because a lot of things may be lost in translation and all (I'm watching it subbed). Anyway, the main couple has great chemistry and their acting is pretty good. There is a lack of conflict which makes the drama not so dramatic, but I'm really only watching for the leads. From what (little) I know of Thai dramas, I think this is one of the better ones.
2 episodes in and I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying this. Good acting, amazing chemistry and I just love…
I'm surprised as well. I tried watching while browsing a famous Chinese video site just because the lead couple looked gorgeous on that cover. I didn't expect myself to fall in love with it. The female lead is simply awesome!
I finally decided to drop the drama. The best thing about watching Princess Hours Thai is that the subs come out within 24 hours, but that's about it. I consider this drama unwatchable. I don't think the Korean cast had much experience, and when I reviewed the original again I thought they were pretty bad acting wise. However, my problem with the Thai remake lies with both the acting and the pace. I complained about the pace in a previous comment, and now I realise that the problem isn't going to resolve by itself. I mean, have you seen a drama where nothing goes on for the entire episode save some (forced) skinship between the lead couple and on top of that their chemistry isn't anything to shout about either? I was looking forward to the sweet moments but they turned out to be so meh. I think even the MVs are more entertaining. Well, at least I've got a couple of Thai dramas under my belt while trying to get use to the language.
On a side note, I strongly recommend Meuan Khon La Faak Fah which is currently airing. It's being subbed on YouTube (SJDK Fan Sub) as well.
Actually, the drama is uploaded with Chinese subs the day it airs locally. With the help of a VPN, I get to watch it subbed at 12 EST. That's why I'm a little quicker.
Can someone answer a question for me, perhaps this is relevant to Korean culture but lost in translation (Watching…
I think the "gallery" is literally an art gallery. She buys and sells paintings, i.e. art transactions. Not sure if that's what it really is though; it may just be a pretense. I didn't finish the drama (though I did help to sub the first 3/4 of it), but I presume that there are probably some shady dealings going on under the table.
3 episodes in for me. I agree that their voices are annoying, but I think that's just because I'm not accustomed to the Thai language.
The biggest negative right now for me is actually the opening theme. I've only watched two Thai dramas in my entire life, I Wanna be Sup'tar (also starring Tao as a supporting character) and this. IWbS's ending theme (sung by Gypso) was freaking awesome but listening to the OST for this drama is a torture to my ears. I would strongly suggest that you pause the video/mute the audio while waiting for the drama to load if you decide to watch.
The second drawback is the pace. I'm assuming that MDL has the right episode count (20), but as of yet they are still not married. It's going to happen in Ep 4 though; I saw the preview. I think the plot is going a little slow. It may also be because I know the story and I'm just looking forward to the more interesting parts.
Nevertheless, I'll encourage you to give it a try. It's amazing how Thai fans managed to make great MVs out of what little promotional materials they were given. I watched a couple of those and I'm staying for all the sweet scenes. Hopefully, they're not thaaaaaaat far away.
EDIT: My apologies for encouraging you to start. I regret my own decision to watch the drama immensely. TT
I actually like her other book 橘生淮南 a lot better. I guess I've always preferred the cool+smart+slightly…
It's one of the upcoming projects of Tencent's subsidiary company. But it's only a webdrama though, so it's likely to star relatively unknown actors and may only broadcast on Tencent's QQ portal.
hows this show?? can someone give a long-ish feedback of how it is so far, like the plot, acting, etc
@3ngin33r has given a short description of the plot, so I'll just add my two cents.
Acting is good, no doubt about it. I guess it helps that this production tend to cast actors they know well, like Jin Dong, Liu Yi Jun, etc. There's also decent romantic chemistry between the two leads (they are not in love yet, but you see the potential), which is something rarer in Chinese dramas. Most of the time you just forgive the fact that they feel very much like strangers just because they look pretty (e.g. Love O2O).
It's a pity that Surgeons is going up against In the Name of People, which is just slaying all their competitors in the (domestic) ratings department. For international viewers, Surgeons should be a good balance between mainstream entertainment and acting. I personally find it difficult to put down, and I watch it on YouTube the moment the channel updates the episodes.
I actually like her other book 橘生淮南 a lot better. I guess I've always preferred the cool+smart+slightly awkward female leads over the cute ones. The main characters in that book (Luo Zhi and Gu Huai Nan) made a "cameo" in this novel too.
I dropped the drama after a while. I just got tired of it and switched to something else. My impression of the drama is that it's pretty well made. The scenery is just breathtaking. It's a pretty good romcom (melo?) and it's an easy watch. However, I disagree that Feng Shao Feng did a wonderful job. I think the lead couple was really lacking when it came to acting (I kind of expected it since Bea Hayden is known to be terrible). Also, I thought you'd have said something about the OST as well. The ending theme sang by Zhou Shen is just awesome.
Everyone seems excited for the OTP, but imo the author of the novel (Ming Xiao Xi) writes horrible plots and I doubt this will be any different as well...

It is possible that the merman is the same person since he's immortal, that's why the name wasn't changed.
