She also touched on how "perhaps the production crew has plans for a second season", which meant that she was not aware of the plan then if it existed. And she said that they wanted to display Chu Qiao's character despite the limitation of not being able to put on screen the entire book. This suggests that she was somewhat prepared that she will not be participating in any sequel.
Secondly, ZLY is currently filming Our Glamorous Times. The booting ceremony was on 4 July. The drama is relatively short and should film for about 60-90 days. After that, she has Ming Lan which will run for 70 episodes, which means a possible filming period of approximately 120+ days considering it's Zheng Wu Yang Guang which means no rushing. In other words, she'll most likely only be available in the 2nd half of 2018. On the other hand, there are rumours circulating that PA2 will start filming in December this year (with a rookie cast).
Lastly, the production company did not jump out immediately after the finale to confirm that the cast will be returning, which isn't very typical (see Ode to Joy and The Starry Night, the Starry Seas). And none of the leads has expressed interest in the sequel as well (unlike OtJ).

The show itself is not well received in China, though it's still a hit ratings wise. It's poorly paced and the production quality is terrible for its budget. It's viewed in a slightly more positive light by the international community, but I've personally heard mostly criticisms. It's not just the ending. Most people dropped it after the backyard politics, some managed to trudge through to the rebellion, the rest who watched it in its entirety are pissed because of the finale.
I can't write a proper review since technically I didn't finish the drama. I watched till ep 10, read some recaps, started watching again at ep 35 till 44, before skipping directly to the ending. I read the novel so I know what's supposed to happen. I won't dwell on things like why everyone loves Chu Qiao, i.e. plot points in the book (though I really do dislike it). I'm here just to complain about how the drama was a huge mess.
Honestly, the whole book can take 60 episodes to finish, but they only shot about half the content. This is extremely perplexing from my perspective. The whole servants tiff shouldn't have extended for nearly half the drama, and this would have quickened the pace. I'm not sure if the reason is because Lin Geng Xin is a bigger star than Shawn Dou, and so to give more weight to his character they had to emphasise more on Chu Qiao's beginnings as Xing Er. Imo, if they were planning on only filming half the book, the lead guy should have been Yan Xun, and they could have given the character to LGX. If they wanted LGX to be Yuwen Yue, they should have adapted the entire novel.
The production company wanted to milk money and in the end gave us something which was complete crap. This is just infuriating. I wonder if Princess Agents shared the same production company as General and I because it certainly seems so. Let's not even talk about the green screens. The trailers looked fantastic, but the real thing was so disappointing that I feel sad for Zhao Li Ying. She's the only one to lose out since both guys gained tons of fans but she has to bear the brunt of the hate for she can rise no higher.
EDIT: I seriously doubt a second season will happen with the same cast since ZLY's schedule is packed. Even if they wanted to bring the cast back they'll have to wait, and with how poorly received the first season was the sequel is unlikely to receive the same hype. With all the criticisms the show is receiving, the actors are unlikely to entertain thoughts of returning as well. They are well sought after anyway and ZLY has Ming Lan (produced by Zheng Wu Yang Guang) coming up.
I think the drama is seriously problematic. I operated on the belief that Ji-hoon simply cannot be Hyun-jae son, because no scriptwriter will be insane enough to make them biological father and son and make then fall in love with the same woman. So when it turned out to be true, it left a bitter taste in my mouth. It's just wrong on so many levels, regardless whether he's 93 HJ, 94 HJ, whatever. That doesn't change shit. It's still freaking disturbing. I can't believe they went ahead with this. This is NOT a happy ending for me.
Plus, the set-up itself is problematic. I think the scriptwriter is trying to be smarter than he/she really is. Is he/she implying that 93 HJ is split from himself, and the other part of him went on to keep living. Does he/she think HJ is Voldemort? I'm just going WTF at how everything was resolved. If 93 HJ travelled to 2017, why does 94 HJ still exist? I'm not convinced even if you offer the theory that the 93 HJ travelled from a parallel world. I'm honestly pretty annoyed.
Just coming back to tell everyone who's considering watching this drama to not watch it. This is one of the worst dramas I've seen in my entire life and if I could give it a zero I will. It's terrible in all aspects: casting, acting, directing, writing and music. I didn't finish it though, so I won't know if it improved dramatically towards the end. But from what everyone's saying, you can rest assure that the drama is as awful as I make it out to be.

tl;dr: I'm here to burst your bubbles. ZLY is not coming back for the second season.
Honestly, the whole book can take 60 episodes to finish, but they only shot about half the content. This is extremely perplexing from my perspective. The whole servants tiff shouldn't have extended for nearly half the drama, and this would have quickened the pace. I'm not sure if the reason is because Lin Geng Xin is a bigger star than Shawn Dou, and so to give more weight to his character they had to emphasise more on Chu Qiao's beginnings as Xing Er. Imo, if they were planning on only filming half the book, the lead guy should have been Yan Xun, and they could have given the character to LGX. If they wanted LGX to be Yuwen Yue, they should have adapted the entire novel.
The production company wanted to milk money and in the end gave us something which was complete crap. This is just infuriating. I wonder if Princess Agents shared the same production company as General and I because it certainly seems so. Let's not even talk about the green screens. The trailers looked fantastic, but the real thing was so disappointing that I feel sad for Zhao Li Ying. She's the only one to lose out since both guys gained tons of fans but she has to bear the brunt of the hate for she can rise no higher.
EDIT: I seriously doubt a second season will happen with the same cast since ZLY's schedule is packed. Even if they wanted to bring the cast back they'll have to wait, and with how poorly received the first season was the sequel is unlikely to receive the same hype. With all the criticisms the show is receiving, the actors are unlikely to entertain thoughts of returning as well. They are well sought after anyway and ZLY has Ming Lan (produced by Zheng Wu Yang Guang) coming up.
Plus, the set-up itself is problematic. I think the scriptwriter is trying to be smarter than he/she really is. Is he/she implying that 93 HJ is split from himself, and the other part of him went on to keep living. Does he/she think HJ is Voldemort? I'm just going WTF at how everything was resolved. If 93 HJ travelled to 2017, why does 94 HJ still exist? I'm not convinced even if you offer the theory that the 93 HJ travelled from a parallel world. I'm honestly pretty annoyed.
P.S. It's not even about the kissing. If the drama were good, it wouldn't matter at all.
