I heard that this show was written with the casting of Jang Nara in mind, and that's why Oh Sunny is a musical actress. But I didn't think JNR was going to accept the role at first because of the makjang element. I'm glad she did though.

Then perhaps you're a fan of certain genres. On a personal level, I see SYHH as more of a popcorn drama, and that puts it beneath GBC and VIP for me. It all boils down to preferences I guess.

The question to ask always when people say they are not a fan, is "have you watched Go Back Couple (or FTLY)"? I think JNR is a miss for some people because she looks cutesy and there are people who just straight out not like the cute look. It's a preference thing. But imo, she's well liked in general because she has serious audience appeal plus consistent hits. It's also a well-known fact in east Asian showbiz that her particular style does appeal to the general public (see Zhao Liying).

This drama is a divergence from the usual Thai slap-kiss/action/makjang dramas. Great start so far!

Doom or Destruction is the literal translation. In any case, the writer does not seem to be doing any sensible world building. No one knows what the male lead's actual responsibilities are, so I don't think there's any point of reference for a "better" translation. At this moment, you might as well just treat it as a normal name.

I like the sound of the drama.

I think that will spoil the drama really. It's okay if the relationship is implied, not so much if they are going all out to confess and whatnot.

Jang Nara is the epitomy of audience affinity. You can see exactly how she managed to strike it big in both Korea and China shortly after making her debut. She's just too lovable even as the (supposedly) pedestrian-looking and pushover Kim Mi-young.

I did not expect this drama to go the direction it went...

Prepare to be disappointed. Taxi and Haunted are at least interesting. Doom only works if you are deep in love with the leads.

Actually, I don't think Ji-ah's mother is wrong. It's an ethical debate that's been going on forever, she just leans more toward utilitarianism.

Agreed, but I prefer it this way. I like slow-burn, organic romance compared to the in-your-face type.

I'm looking at the list of upcoming dramas for KBS in 2021. Unless they give the Daesang to the weekend dramas because of ratings again, it's Jang Nara's award to lose. She's the biggest name in there afaik.

Frankly speaking, episode 11 was freaking boring except for the action scenes at the end. But episode 12. Oh my god. That's some individual brilliance from Jang Nara. Absolutely amazing acting. I am overwhelmed. I mean, she was good in Go Back Couple, great in VIP but... she is simply phenomenal here.

Actually, I don't think that makes sense. If the timeslot is an issue, then the ratings wouldn't be dropping, they should be stagnant. Dramas that premiere in the week naturally have higher buzz as well. For actual "brand" rankings you should be looking at the monthly rank, which has SJK, LJH and JNR in the first 3 places, and it is pretty much aligned with the ratings of their drama. That said, I do agree that Doom has a bit more buzz than viewership, but Knetz are also split on this drama, the reception is mixed tending toward positive.

Jang Nara was phenomenal in VIP and Go Back Couple, and expectedly (or unexpectedly for some) exceptional in this drama as well.
