The marriage at the 1st episode is of her Father taking in a concubine…while she was about to get married but…
Thank you for clarifying this! I was confused too, but I was wondering if it was because of the English subs, and I had to go back to see if I missed anything and at first thought "wait, so does the guy marrying the concubine, our FL, have the same surname?" But your explanation helps clear up things for me, so thank you.
I've watched 7 episodes and imo the drama is just average. Why it has such a high rating? Does it get better in…
YASS. Someone on the same page as me! I was in the minority with how they wrote the beginning of the show. I loveee ZLS too, so it was really a struggle getting through the first segments of her character as Sang Zhi (SZ) played by the younger actress. SZ is supposed to be 14-15 but they totally mis-casted, because I believe at the time of filming, the actress was only 10. They should have casted up, or choose a younger actor to play a younger version of Duan Jia Xu (DJX). To me, they should have kept it consistent. SZ's character really bothered me with how strange, in a bad way, rude, and even ungrateful she was.
I feel the story got better starting in episode 9 (I fast-forwarded the first 8 episodes in under 20 min.), but they really overused the flashback scene of when SZ first encounters DJX behind the trunk of the car with the fox plush. It took away the impact of what the drama wanted to portray. Personally, I feel the drama would have started stronger if they actually started with SZ's heartbreak as a high schooler who thought DJX had a girlfriend, and then she chose to have to move on. It would have been great to draw the audience in with that moment, and then weave the flashbacks of her youth into that sequence of how she came to have a crush on DJX. And then from there, cut to the present moment of SZ being a university student and seeing DJX again for the first time in a long time. Then weave in more of the impact of her crush by actually maybe showing that scene of her meeting him as a high schooler with the fox plush and all the other little vignettes they could have woven in such as DJX working and giving her desserts, or spending time tutoring her. Cut back to the present day story, and I felt the flow would have been more captivating.
I feel if you love ZLS, stick with it, and she does have amazinggggg chemistry with her costar. Their moments are really cute, and it does seem to get better, as does the character of Sang Zhi. DJX is a great male lead, a rarity in dramaland of kind and considerate guys, so that's a treat to see too. To me, he's like an Asian Gilbert Blythe of 'Anne of Green Gables'.
I loved the drama so much despite so many issues too, and you made some very valid/good points too in the frustration…
Yea, I am really sorry that you're debating about character growth with people. I understand that many people loved the show, (me included) and it can make seeing things through a tunnel vision instead. I had so much frustrations with the drama that I wrote a really lengthy review as a result too. I remember just being absolutely frustrated with the direction of the story in how they dumbed-down Shaoshang when they've constantly shown her to be intelligent and can hold her own. Some of that did get lost in the latter parts. I know you clearly said unpopular opinion too. LOL. Here's to hoping there will be more quality dramas in our near future.
Ok unpopular opinion here and let me reiterate I SAID WHAT I SAID...👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿This female lead was…

Wow, to carry so much hatred in your heart against an actress must really be awful. I am surprised that you stuck…
That was exactly my thought of how this person is similar to the naysayers in the drama who said similar things to CSS essentially during A'Yao's and Zhaojun's wedding, and like all the characters you just mentioned too!
I guess the person woke up and decided, "I will choose violence today" 😂 even if it makes no sense...
With so much hatred, it isn't surprising. But time is precious, so I am just surprised this person chose to torture themselves this way. Oh well. Thank goodness we have a pretty kind bunch in this comment section from the drama.
Watched up to ep 52. OMFG what a waste of my time. I neva gonna watch another Zhao Lusi drama ever again. She…
Wow, to carry so much hatred in your heart against an actress must really be awful. I am surprised that you stuck with a drama for 52 episodes when there was so much anger and frustration in watching. Why would you submit yourself to such torture and not have dropped the drama sooner?
I am all for anyone having bias against or for an actress, but your subjectivity beyond, “I feel Zhao Lusi is overrated” is absolutely uncalled for. What you wrote makes no sense because you jumped from her character to the actress and back and forth.
Are we even watching the same drama? Because based on what you’re saying, you’re exactly like the society of people who have nothing helpful to say, and fall right into the crowd of the mean bullies from the drama itself with the: “OMG she got with one guy and then dumped him and then got another guy.” Doesn’t seem like you paid attention to the story, and perhaps your definition of “promiscuous” falls in the same line of the way people thought back then of “oh, what a shameful and shameless girl, being engaged to one and now engaged to another”. The fact that you said you 'think she got together with 3 guys' just feels as if you’re pulling apart the story with blinders on to spew hate on the actress, more so than even the character, which still makes no sense. But okay...
Is there a purpose bringing other actresses into the discussion as well for this drama? They clearly didn't portray Cheng Shaoshang. Is beauty not in the eye of the beholder and is so subjective? How nasty and sad to have spent so much energy and time watching a drama from an actress you clearly have so much negativity towards. What does “Nazi feminist shiet” even mean?
May you find dramas worthy of your time and energy, and may you find peace and healing in your heart to be more kind.
Does anyone know if the entire OST has been released? I know there have been youtube videos shared by Daily Music Official with 39 background songs from the drama. However, I was wondering for some specific ones, such as in episode 10, where CSS watched the bridge collapse and danced with joy at the execution of her work, or in episode 41 when Ling Buyi rode in with his mandarin duck armour before battle? I could have missed these, but I don't recall being able to find them in the OST videos that have been shared. Any kind soul might know? Thank you for your help :)
yeah, I read that too, but is it legit one?I hope it is true, because from what i read, even IS and LBFAD got…
Right? I really wish they weren't in this position in the first place and ended up being a sacrificial drama to fill up time slots and all. I wish it was given the proper care from the start and not released until its actual scheduled time, because the drama would have had more time to properly edit and be ready to showcase their work. :(

I think it's already too late to try to catch the wave of its popularity, given everything that worked against it from the start. I can't imagine the director and crew trying to churn it out fast now after everything that has already happened :(

We probably won't even find out until the Lunar New Year. But maybe there is hope considering it'll be the year of the Rabbit, Cheng Shaoshang's year 😂🤞
