I completely understand this. The world is already filled with cruelty, violence, and darkness. We don't need all that in our dramas. Nonfiction is already hard, so let fiction be an escape to find the sliver of joy.

They've actually not revealed this yet and all we have are speculations.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your analysis and critiques of the show, friend. I have yet to finish the drama, but I have some bones to pick with the drama and the characterization of LMT too. It's like the show forgot certain threads they began with..

With that being sad, I am up to episode 36, but I will definitely be back to write a length review overall too. And I hope to come back and share the thoughts with you as well. Overall, I did love their love story, because it's one of the better ones especially because of CXZ. Perhaps one of the most unique and sincere of male leads I have seen from character growth to downright the sweetest proposal and confession of his feelings in a historical drama. Which then goes back to us talking about how the drama was so geared to everyone loving the ML later on and we didn't get more of our female lead...and how I felt she should have been the one leading this revenge in the end too. Anyway, more on that when I get a chance to finish everything. Thank you for all your discussion posts.

I really love this take, but at the same time, I feel maybe it would have been stronger for the emperor and the people to have recognized Lu Wen “posthumously”. Because history is not quite ready to accept a woman who is able to help an empire and acknowledge a strategist female who helped placed an emperor on the throne. As much as I love that credit should be given where it’s due, history once again, would not be so open sadly. Perhaps an honor could be given to the “Liu” family where Lu Wen hailed from for all of Lu Wen’s merits. And that they could even have Lord Huaiyang present this honor to world and speak of his and Lu Wen’s alliance. Afterall, Lu Wen’s real identity was only known to her brothers who died, the current emperor, and Xingzhou. People could always speculate if Lu Wen from the Liu family was even related to Princess Huaiyang- Liu Miantang.

I do know many weren't happy with how the episodes spanned, but I absolutely loved them. I feel from 17-23, there's this push and pull of her knowing her identity, and him suspecting that she has her memory back. But despite his suspicions, he drags it out and does not confront the situation because if he can pretend longer, I believe for him, it feels like he can keep her by his side, and they can continue being a loving husband and wife.

Of course, things unravel and the scene between them with the confrontation of the truth was done quite well to me. The hurt conveyed was palpable by both Miantang and Xingzhou. This is where they part ways. And then from ep. 24-31, you see Miantang toiling away on her goals, but from what I felt, she was grieving too, but having her goals kept her busy. (I do wish the drama showed a bit more of her thoughts, and gave her more screen time.) Xingzhou went on to take care of official duties by the emperor, but we got to see his cleverness where any chance he got, he was trying his hardest to right his wrongs towards Miantang and demonstrating his love to her in the most shameless way, because it was the only way he knew how. Their reconciliation was heartfelt to me, because eventually Miantang came around to see his sincerity and love towards her. And his proposal to her is perhaps the sweetest I have ever seen in a historical drama.

Episode 17 is when she recovers her memory. Episode 31 is when they reconcile.

You can do it! You have plenty of episodes...basically 21 episodes as of this comment to keep watching through all the emotions. It is not a bad place where you're at, since the drama is wrapping up soon.

Thank you for sharing your insight, friend. I am so glad I skipped on reading the book. I know alot of individuals here seem to really love CXZ from the book, but based on what I have read and seen in the discussion, I would not like a character like book CXZ who seems to never learn to apologize, but instead, just double downs on the lies and tries to bypass it by just telling the FL to move on it appears. It makes him very cartoon caricature and not one I can root for. So I chose to read the spoiler discussions from those who've read the novel. Please come back and let us know your thoughts on book CXZ when you're done. :) And by then, hopefully you'll be able to also share if you grew to like book CXZ or if drama CXZ is better.

I find the drama CXZ at least morally gray in the sense that yes, he has to shoulder all these things, and he's the way he is with his upbringing and the title that comes with his name. However, sometimes I have a sliver of sympathy for him but hope he learns and does better. I am all for him being growing to be a better person because of having found love and being in love with LMT. He's grown more of a conscience, and while the telling the truth is a work in progress right now, I hope we get to see him get character development in all the best ways possible.

Am I though? LOL. It is more like prolonging the torture in hopes my long term reward pays off for when I get to binge. LOL
