My pleasure. That 'who was the real ghost?' thing was a plot twist. Also, there was a theory that those soldiers died in combat with Vietkong not long after they went ashore. The deadly terror that led them to their demise one by one, which was shown throughout the movie, was illusions. Those soldiers might be getting into a loop as they didn't realize that they were already died. Perhaps their great desire to return homeland made them deny the reality. They became the wandering ghosts in a foreign land. Spooky yet sad at the same time.

Sorry, I have a vague memory about it. BUT, As far I remember, you should watch the scenes where they first went ashore. They took a memorial photo on the beach (or a riverbank ?). One of them was a ghost (or didn't realize that he was already dead?). I assumed that the group of soldiers was bewitched by the ghost. Also, check the scenes where a heavily injured soldier lying with gauze bandages. He gave some testimony. But it seemed that his explanation was a bit different with the facts that rescuers held. So it exuded the creepiness.

Before I thought that kind of hypnosis only existed in science fiction. Well, I read our brain is kinda amazing too. Sometimes, if urgently needed, the brain seems to have a mechanism to erase (or hide) traumatizing memories. Thus we have selective amnesia. even though the brain can manipulate memories, the body cannot forget, since we have cellular memory.

I think at first PY saves JC because she is the key witness of the attack at a banquet. He uses her repeatedly as a bait to lure the masked man. And now he is fond of her. But alas, JC seems to have no romantic inclination toward him. Even though she admires him to a certain degree, she still disdains his guts and his noble pride. What she hates the most is, being treated as an object. On top of all, she wanna leaves those men asap to see her master. It's not she is not aware of WZ and PY's scheming all the time.

Madam Pei / Rong indeed has her own agenda. She still holds grudges from the past. I don't think it is genuinely because of Pei family affair. Maybe a part of it from her Rong family? She befriends with high socialites, her background must be originally noble. Madam Rong and the current emperor were lovers. Since she is an alpha woman, she covets a position as a queen consort. But the prince break off with her because he can't make her the main wife. Anyway, that's the agreement between them. Rong Yudi won't let herself become a concubine. What makes it worse, the prince - later the emperor- grants her a marriage with Pei Ziling (?), Pei Yan's father. She, married to Pei clan is not a bad idea since her husband falls head over heels with her. But unfortunately he dies prematurely. Again, Madam Rong suspects her husband demise relate to the emperor.

I know I should not get too invested in a fiction drama. But yeah, Jiang Ci may already gets amnesia. Selective one. :D I used to hear a real case of a sexual assault. The victim was a sunny girl, a typical girl next door. But after the incident, she was nearly crazy and perhaps almost admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Her family then used hypnosis to her. Apparently, it worked. She forgot that horrible incident and lived her daily life as usual. She would be in happiness forever as long as no one told her the truth or said any triggering words which could break the hypnosis. Back to JC, after 3 murder attempts on her by the very same perpetrator, now she becomes friendly with him easily??? and even becomes lovers in future episodes. 🤣

His mother is obsessed to revive Pei Clan (military resources) to be on par with kingdom's military resources. Meanwhile, since long time ago the emperor saw Pei Clan as a threat. This is the cliche part on every historical drama but really effective to justify the emperor's motive. A certain general family with immense wealth and military retainers helping the kingdom secure the sovereignty over neighboring kingdoms. BUT, their victory backfires. Instead of getting respect from the court, they just get hostile receptions. If PY decides to cut off relationship with Pei clan who treated him and his motherhorribly, he will be accused as an unfilial lad. The rest of the world will mock him. And if he choose to estrange himself from the emperor (means he is not ambitious to get Prime Minister slot), then, he is vulnerable to become a scapegoat in every emperor's schemes. Simply because he has a surname Pei. what a tough choice he has!

I know it's a stupid scenario, but yeah, I let it slide for the sake of the plot moving.
