Hi Gizzy! I believe the major contributor to my disappointment is that I so wanted a good romance between ZBB and Reba. You’re right, if there weren’t Stockholm Syndrome vibes to the drama, I would still enjoy it (or at least finish it) despite the weak plot. These two artists do make a beautiful pair though and I still have hopes they can collaborate again.

Haha, I’m like you. I found the ML in “Pretty Li Hui Zhen” to be too wooden. Of course, the premise of Reba looking “plain” and blossoming into a beauty was laughable. Those fake freckles could not disguise Reba’s loveliness. I do like her crazy unkempt hair though since it adds a little charm to her character. But yeah, I agree with you, the chemistry was much stronger between ZBB and Reba as compared to Reba and Peter.

Happy 2 years to one of my favorite dramas! 😊 Thank you “The Long Ballad” for casting Reba as the female lead, a character with substance and heart, for making me cry for her struggles and prompting me to cheer when she found her purpose. The personal growth and Reba’s portrayal of Li Changge will forever stay with me. Thank you TLB for reintroducing me to a rising star in Wu Lei (first saw him in “Nirvana in Fire”) and his splendid performance. Thank you to this wonderful board where I met many many insightful posters who share the same appreciation for this amazing drama. It’s because of this drama that I joined MDL and I had countless enjoyable discussions with fans here. Even after a long absence, this place still feels like home. 😊

Is it too shallow of me that I smiled when I read his 6’2” height and that he was a swimmer? Yes, physically, he seems ideal (I like swimmer’s/tennis player’s built) so just let me have my superficial moment. 😊 Now seriously, I did check MDL’s drama page for “Under the Skin” and the synopsis was really well written and I am intrigued. If Jin Shi Jia is the male lead for Reba’s new drama, I think I will watch “Under the Skin” to get a feel for his acting. All I wish for whoever is the male lead to the Sword Rose drama is that his collaborative energy with Reba is good and that all the characters are portrayed well. With a serious drama like this, the script is very critical too and I hope it’s well written and well-paced.

Calling all Reba fans…this is about her historical drama, “The King’s Woman”. I have chatted or read comments from her fans and this drama have received mixed reactions. Some people love it while others (including myself) do no care for it. My question is, for those who love this drama, what do you like about it? For those who did not enjoy this drama, what are your reasons? This is an honest question and my hope to spur a healthy discussion. I’m not trying to cause a divide in any way. I’m truly curious about fans’ take.

For me, I was disappointed with the plot and the romance. His forcing her to be with him against her will was a major turn-off. I couldn’t get behind his actions and really did not understand why she could fall for him. And yes, I did know of his (nice) treatment of her child helped but STILL. I watched half the drama before dropping so I feel that I gave this production a fair shot. I watched “Pretty Li Hui Zhen” prior to starting “The King’s Woman” and I love their chemistry in the former drama and was frustrated they didn’t pair up. I guess I was hoping the romantic aspect in “The King’s Woman” would compensate for what I did not get in their former drama. I would say ZBB looked great in “The King’s Woman”; he and Reba made an attractive pair. When they showed some of their “playful” moments in the drama, they were cute but then I remembered how his character selfishly held her at the palace and these fuzzy feelings dissipate for me. If he truly loved her, he would not force her.

So Alices, is this drama a “yay” or “nay” for you? I love to hear your thoughts!

Dewey glowing star award? Wow, that sounded bad. I think it was a literal translation to English from Chinese. I would imagine “Fresh Faced Artist” award would be a comparable (and better) title for that award. I can probably do a better job giving “legitimate” award titles. Please tell me, do fans vote on Weibo for these awards? Or do they go through a “professional” panel of judges? For so many “made up” awards, I feel like every artist that attended would receive a trophy just because they showed up. Such farce that I can’t help but laugh! I guess we can just admire the ceremony for the fashionable looks of the attendees and not take the awards seriously!!

It’s crazy to me. I live in the US and I can’t think of any recent Western actress/stars that I would consider to be “beautiful”. In my eyes, the most beautiful actress (past and present) was the one and only Audrey Hepburn, for her unique looks, immense talent (acting, singing and dancing) and her big heart (UNICEF). Not a diss on Angelina Jolie, I never found her to be breathtaking beautiful and how many children a woman has does not matter to me or would affect her beauty (that is a silly argument if I ever heard one). Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder so I am not one to dismiss someone’s preference. Personally, I find Reba’s beauty to parallel Audrey Hepburn’s loveliness in that they’re something about their expressions, charisma and aura that grab me. So it’s no surprise that I am just drawn to Reba and her works and not shocked that her domestic and international fans feel the same way. She is so loved in China that C-Alices go all out to celebrate her birthday and she wholeheartedly deserves it. As long as Reba is still the kind and giving soul that I believe her to be, I will continue to support her in all she does. 😊

Wonderful news! 😊 Now, I should learn more about the ML – Jin Shi Jia (not familiar with him)! Anyone want to share his/her opinion on this actor? What drama is he known for? I hope the melon is true (I don’t really care who the ML is at this point). I just want Reba to start filming. 😊

Yes, I hated his character SO SO much in that drama. I love the female lead (both the character and the actress) and I was so ready to strangle the emperor (Wallace Huo’s character) at the end. The ending was annoying, I did not care for his regrets and wished for something more punishing than what he received. I guess he was convincing in that role since we both hated his character so much!

I did not see his drama with Sandra Ma (“Love Me if You Dare”) but I have read the novel. The protagonist in the novel is a quirky character so if he’s mysterious and broody, I guess it’s inline with the novel’s characterization. Somehow, I have a difficult time imagining Wallace Huo (from my impression of that one drama I’ve seen of his) in this role. I’m not hoping for much since Reba’s rumored dramas focus less on the romance. I just hope their collaborative energy is good and they are convincing in their roles if they indeed star in the drama together.

Expressive award? That sounds like a made-up award. I’m not familiar with Weibo Night but this award ceremony seems completely lame. I can’t believe Reba (or any popular artists) would like to attend this event in the future if no substantial awards are given. It seems like a runway show for Chinese actors/actresses to do their catwalk and for the netizens to gush over fashion. Nothing wrong with that but at least try to come up with better award categories.

SO completely true! Even a burlap sack would look like haute couture on beautiful Reba. 😊 On a serious note, I must be in the minority but I prefer the pink dress without the bubblegum pink shawl-trainlike wrap around her arms. I found it to be too distracting and makes me even more curious about how the dress would look with just the watermelon pink spaghetti dress. Nonetheless, that color looked absolutely fetching on her and she was so stunning!

This is an interesting pairing and one that I don’t mind seeing manifest in the foreseeable future. I hope it will be a costume drama though because Xu Kai looks very good in a period piece. He seems very young and boyish to me in modern dramas and although physically they would look good together but I have doubts if they were convincing as a couple (although that also depends on the script) just because Reba seems more mature in how she carries herself.

I don’t understand the sort of backlash she gets from her exotic looks and Uyghur background. It amazes me that other viewers do not consider her to be Chinese because of her appearance. Granted Han Chinese is the predominant population in China but China is diverse with many ethnic backgrounds; these viewers seriously need to educate themselves on cultural diversity and that we live in a global world and blending of ethnicities is the norm not the exception.

To be honest, in my eyes, Han Chinese actresses look very much alike (especially when some did plastic surgery to achieve that perfect feature(s)) that I, as an infrequent viewer of Chinese dramas, have a tough telling them apart. So, I welcome Reba’s exotic beauty – she is definitely unforgettable and those can continue to hate and stew on their jealousies as this girl is here to stay!

Can you please elaborate more on what the contract dispute with Jaywalk? I read somewhere that Yang Mi left Jaywalk (not sure if this is confirmed news). Does Reba have the intention to leave too? I personally hope so. I feel Jaywalk has a stranglehold on their most popular stars, expecting them to carry the younger generation with them into every production. Hopefully, she is able to extract herself from them.

Wallace Huo? I only watched one drama of his, “Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace”. Loved the drama and really hated his character. To me, it’s hard to gauge his acting prowess based on one production. Anyone want to share his/her thoughts on his acting? If this rumor is true, I really hope it’s a good collaboration between him and Reba.

That is crazy! Reba is the epitome of grace and class. I’m sure all high-end brands are salivating to have her endorse their products. She is effortless in making all her brands look inviting and more importantly, expensive. Dior is very lucky to have her and I’m over the moon happy to see all the marketing materials and her ads plastered over social mediums as well as her lovely live streams. So glad her marketability is so high!

Same here! I miss being excited about her new drama. I feel like Reba fans have been trolled for months. We kept reading melons that she will join a new drama soon but the drama is either changed or the booting date kept being postponed. Till now, nothing has been officially announced!
