Respect! I concur with the issues that you argue make Lin Haoqing and Yunhe so incompatible are directly related…
Hi hi! š I really enjoy reading another personās perspective, thanks for sharing! Honestly, I can understand why viewers are drawn to a gray character like LHQ because his character is written quite sympathetically in the drama as compared to the novel. In particular his fatherās death scene, LHQ in the novel, was not as torn up about killing him (not that I blame him since I loathe his father too); his character was ambitious in being the master of Flower Valley and he was cold and calculating in enlisting Yun Heās help. I found his character riveting at that point and honestly, enjoyed the mystery of which path he would embark on ā will he be a good or bad guy? When reading the novel at this junction, I was unsure but really anticipated his characterās direction. At the end, I really love this character in the novel because his existence was not defined by any pairing and unlike the typical second male leads in most Chinese works, his world does not revolve around the female lead nor is he used as a sacrificial lamb to move the plot along. LHQ has his own goals and his character plays a major role in the storyline. Whatās not to love? In the drama, I donāt mind the unrequited love because it was done subtly (on his part) and I do find it moving in his care for Yun He but more pleased that his existence in the drama still revolves around the finding the antidote for frost poison. Iām only on episode 30 so far and the actorās performance is great. Since heās not getting the girl, I just hope he has a good ending.
In regards to which character is more compelling, I think most would agree gray characters are typically more interesting than straight up characters like Chang Yi so itās not surprising LHQ will resonate with many viewers. However, I love the contrast in personality Chang Yi provides to Yun He and glad the drama highlights how his traits, in my opinion, complements what she needs in a partner. As to Chang Yi and Yun Heās relationship, at this point of my viewing, they have not conversed about their issues but I feel they realize how much the other loves him/her. With this couple, it seems actions are louder than words. In part 1, Chang Yiās love was obvious as he sacrificed his merman tail; he spoke of āhomeā being where she is and have every intention to be reunited with her after his trip to Immortal Masterās Mansion. After she ābetrayedā him, Yun He wasnāt sure if he still loved her but soon realized that he still loves her very much and that his āpunishmentā of her was his way of keeping her safe. He constantly tells her to take her medicine; he monitors her food intake like a hawk. At every sign of danger upon her, he abandons his post to be by her side. For someone as intelligent as Ji Yun He, she has to deduce that he is still very much in love with her. As for Chang Yi, he always thought she might have a reason for her ābetrayalā. It didnāt hit home how much she loves him until her first ādeathā when he saw her drawing of their time together on top of the cliff and how she spoke of freedom. Luo Luo further reinforced this sentiment, after Yun Heās death, where she ranted at Chang Yi how much Yun He did for him (because she loved him) but he couldnāt grant her wish of being free. That scene is so heartbreaking to me but Chang Yi needed to hear that. I donāt feel like there is one scene yet for me but a collection of moments where their actions indicate their love and bond. I have to see the remaining episodes to see if thereās a stronger indication.
In the novel, after she regains her memories as Yun He and they are reunited, there is an underwater scene where Chang Yi and Yun He reaffirms their love. He indicated the past no longer matters (and that is before she explains her ābetrayalā which she has every intention to tell him but then problem aka Shunde arrives). During this time with her consent, he marked her again, reaffirming that she is his only mate for life. Those moments are very sweet. I know the drama did not film an underwater scene so I hope there is another scene in place for them to express their devotion. If you did not get a strong impression, perhaps that was area that was lacking during filming?
Iāll be the first to say my impression of the drama and my love for this couple might be colored by the novel that I am more willing to overlook areas that deviate from the written work. At its core, I think the drama is able to capture their love story, so Iām still enjoying the ride even though itās less than perfect
PLEASE tell me that the song Chang Yi sings in episode 8 is on Spotify........
The Blue Whisper soundtrack is on Spotify (just search āThe Blue Whisperā) and the original soundtracks will come up and the Chang Yiās Merman song (the ending theme song) was sung by the great Zhou Shen. I wonder if it was actually Allen who sung this song in the drama with his own voice because it sounded different from Zhou Shenās version and Zhou Shen has a distinctive voice. Anyone know?
I love the way they paint Yun He's brows depending on her clothes!!
The styling for Rebaās Ji Yun He is really top notch! The costumes, hair styles and her unique earrings ā Reba looked amazing in this drama. I like the white eyelashes when she was out in the snow. Even with her sickly appearance, she somehow managed to look ethereally beautiful.
I want to give Allen Ren some love for his portrayal of our āBig Tailed Fishā. šā¤ļø I just finished part 1 of the drama and thoroughly enjoyed his performance as the sweet, innocent Chang Yi even though his personality does slightly deviate from the novel where I would describe Chang Yi to be honest, direct and not as naive. Although different, Iām still charmed by this character in the drama, primarily due to Allenās interpretation. His expressions and pure heart and love for Yun He made me smile during happy times and teary-eyed in those sad moments. Heās an amazing actor and Iām pleased to be introduced to Allen Ren via Chang Yi.
I read some viewersā posts that some felt that the second male lead, Lin Haoqing might be a better pairing for Ji Yun He, which I have to say I must be in the minority with this sentiment. I absolutely adore Yun He and Chang Yi together and felt that he fulfills what she truly needs. Though Lin Haoqing understands her, but there is too much (ugly) history between the two (his fatherās torture of Yun He). Chang Yi represents the purity and goodness that was lacking as Yun He grew up in a manipulative and try-to-survive environment. The people she loves most (Chang Yi and Luo Luo) are similar in nature and itās no wonder she gravitates towards individuals who are simple (without guile) than her and Lin Haoqing, whom I would describe to be alike in intelligence and can be calculative if the situation calls for it.
Since I have read the novel, I cannot get behind the pairing of Yun He and Lin Haoqing (despite the wonderful performance delivered by Xiao Shun Yao) because in the novel, they have a quasi sibling relationship so for that reason, I just cannot ship them onscreen even though the actors have good chemistry. I love Lin Haoqing as a standalone character in the novel and so far, I am enjoying the actorās portrayal and love him for his complex nature and devotion to his cause. I just hope this character has a good ending in the drama.
So far, I only watched the first two episodes (planning on taking my time rather than binging) and just want to comment on my overall impression. Aesthetically, the drama is so beautiful; Flower Valley is beautiful, the CGI is good, Chang Yiās merman tail is well done. Absolutely love the styling and costumes of all characters so far. Reba and Allen make such a gorgeous pair and I canāt help but admire their closeups as the camera pans to their faces. Physically, they are so suited for the roles of Ji Yunhe and Chang Yi, respectively.
Memorable momentsā¦I love Princess Psycho Shundeās entrance with the flowing flowers. It aptly captures the novel of her characterās entrance and the actress, so far, is doing a great job portraying her character. The prison where Chang Yi is imprisoned is too nice and nothing I imagined in the novel. š Luo Luo and Yunheās sisterhood is so sweet and I enjoy Luo Luoās antics and playful nature. Reba is beyond gorgeous in this drama and I love the complexity of her character so far; sheās cute, flirty and torn in trying to make the best of her situation. The scenes between her and Lin Haoqing are great, to my surprise. At first, I am not in favor of the deviation from the novel but I do enjoy watching his restrained care for her and as long as itās subtle, I think it add an additional layer to their relationship which Iām no longer as resistant to this change. My heart will always lie with Yunhe and Chang Yi though. Allenās expressions as Chang Yi is apt thus far and canāt wait for him to have dialogue in the upcoming episodes. š
Having already watched PT1 on AVV I don't know which part to watch, spoilt for choice! I'll watch both alternately!…
Hi Gizzy! I read on one of the comments that the subtitles are the same on Croton and Viki. I am watching on Viki since I have subscription there. So pleasantly surprised that we will be getting all subtitled episodes! I'm sure many fans are binging right now but personally I want to savor the episodes so I plan on taking my time and probably comment here throughout my viewing.
Saw a comment from douban coming from a user who rated the drama a one star, and it says in there that Reba is…
LOL! These losers should at least read the synopsis before trying to disguise themselves as neutral viewers. Such an embarrassment! At least, their antics are good for some laughs when their actions backfire.
Wow congrats dilraba deserve .. where is tlb i prefer tlb and tbw over ymg
I don't believe Gu Man even finish the second book to Blazing Sunlight. Honestly, this is my least favorite Gu Man novel (must be hers as well as she cannot even finish writing it). The plot is very bland and I hate love triangles so it was already a turnoff after I read Book 1 as viewers were left guessing which male character the FL would choose at the end. I also did not find the FL to be special or endearing so I almost cried (in frustration) when Reba is rumored for the FL . Thankfully, there's not much truth to that rumor and as her fan, this type of FL is a setback to Reba's acting trajectory.
You gotta link please? seems like a lot of names are tied to that novel/drama.
I have read this novel (Really Really Miss You) and it's a cute, sweet fluffy novel in which the lead couple connects through voice acting. It has an interesting premise and I enjoyed it for being a light-hearted story but unless they change the script dramatically, it should be a hard pass for both Reba and Xiao Zhan. I have nothing against romcom and if the script is right, it could be a hit (such as YAMG). However, both Reba and Xiao Zhan are too mature for the FL and ML roles as described in the novel. If they were to partake in a modern romantic drama, their characters should be mature professionals, not young twenty-something discovering their first love. The FL is particularly sweet and innocent and Reba should not consider taking on these types of cutesy roles at this stage of her acting career, in my humble opinion. A Reba and XZ collaboration is very much desired by the masses so let's not waste their acting talents. Surely there are other good scripts with age appropriate characters that are challenging for both artists!
Who Rules The World just started for a week and it's already trending everywhere and topping every chart while…
The only embarrassing thing around here is your comment. Please be respectful of the hard work of the entire TBW cast; just because you do not like Reba, no need to unfairly disparage the drama. Please also do some research before condemning a drama is a flop. If you have done so, you will see which drama has been ranked first on many charts for most of April (whisper hint: The Blue Whisper). FYI, ātoppingā means being ranked high on some metrics and āfloppingā means itās not. Fans on this page do not care if Who Rules the World is trending; please share this so-called wonderful news with the fans of this drama in its own drama page. I could go on and on but frankly, have a feeling itās a waste a time. Just your typical hater.
According to the drama schedule this week, we should be getting 2 episodes each day for the next three days, starting…
Yes, six more episodes to air to finish part 1 for VIP subscribers. Episodes 17 and 18 on March 30th, episodes 19 and 20 on March 31st and episodes 21 and 22 on April 1st. There are 22 total episodes for part 1. Thatās according to the drama release schedule found here: https://kisskh.at/photos/dqENz_3
For fans who are relying on English subs, just curious what is your plan? Are you (1) waiting for official subs…
Awesome! It seems many fansā intentions are to watch/rewatch with official subs. š It will be great when those English subs drop so we can truly discuss the drama plot and characters in detail. So far, I have enjoyed many viewersā analyses and the comparisons and changes made as compared to the novel (good and the bad). It helps me level my expectations a bit prior to watching the drama and be more open minded to the changes made. I also expected to be wowed on certain parts too and am really forward to chemistry between our leads. From the images and BTS clips, they appear so comfortable with one another and I found the scenes and gazes between the two to be quite sweet and tender. I hope that translates well in their interactions on screen. Very anxious to find out and looking forward to the many interesting discussions with fellow fans here!
According to the drama schedule this week, we should be getting 2 episodes each day for the next three days, starting on March 30th and part 1 will conclude on April 1st. Part 2 is rumored to air on April 6th. This timeline is for VIP subscribers. If part 2 follows the same pace as part 1, it looks like part 2 will conclude (or close to finish) airing before English subs are expected to be released to international fans on April 22nd. That is crazy to me how they have handled the release of this drama internationally.
Iām a hard core Ren Jialun fan so Iām enthralled whenever he is on -screen. However, I think Reba owns this…
My favorite Chang Yi part (from the novel) is coming up soon so I expect Allen to deliver some meaty, emotional scenes shortly so donāt be discouraged! I really canāt wait to see his upcoming performance after watching some of the BTS footage. š
Lin Canglan and Qing Shu have been experimenting on Yunheās Frost Poison for years. They have infused her with…
I love those scenes in the novel! š I have not watched the drama yet but that is the same feeling I get too. The drama Chang Yi seems sweet and innocent while the novel Chang Yi is much more honest and direct. Iām not sure which Chang Yi I prefer more but as you said, changes are to be expected for novel adaptations. As long as the core story does not deviate too much from the novel, I can live with the changes.
If I can give this post a million hearts, I certainly will. Iām teary-eyed from reading this. š¢ Your words…
Frankly, your post was so touching and as a fan of the novel, Reba and soon to be Allen if his performance trajectory continues, I appreciate those who take the time to write a thorough analysis of the characters and plot. Maybe because I am guilty of long comments so when I see others doing it, it makes me feel less wordy! Haha! Itās great and I love reading insightful thoughts like yours!!
I have not watched any episodes yet (still waiting on official subs) but I am so anxious for them as I am ready to jump right into the drama. I have heard many positive remarks about Rebaās performance and I am also blown away by her portrayal (from the limited footage of her). She truly does embody the character Ji Yunhe and the best thing as a Reba fan is to see her take on a role and absolutely killing it! I really cannot imagine another actress portraying Ji Yunhe with such heart and emotional mark as she has done. Itās very exciting to personally witness her acting growth (I know I sound like a broken record since her TLB performances) but she has improved so much with each new drama. I anticipate her future roles and curious how she can personalize the characters with her unique touch. More importantly, I feel she has shed (for the most part) the image of just being a pretty vase actress (I never believe that obviously) but that seems to be the overwhelming sentiment among casual viewers.
Once I watch TBW episodes, I will definitely voice my opinions in detail (warning, probably very long comments to come); hopefully youāll still be around and Iām sure many people will join in too. Iām in agreement, letās create the fun atmosphere as we had in TLB! Looking forward to your future takes on the rest of the drama. š
For fans who are relying on English subs, just curious what is your plan? Are you (1) waiting for official subs from Croton, (2) watching raws and plan on rewatching with subs or (3) watching on unofficial platforms with MTL subs and doing a rewatch later?
Iāve been holding out, waiting for official subs because the MTL subs were quite bad and I found them quite distracting. I know there are fans translations of the earlier episodes that are quite good but only three episodes have been released thus far. What makes it very unfortunate (in my opinion) is that I miss the discussion we all could have had if the episode release + English subtitles were consistent between domestic and international viewers. Fans here were so excited days before the drama release on March 17th and this page was drumming with activity leading up to the first episode, but now, thatās not the case. š I truly miss that excitement! And God knows I want to comment on episode 14 and even though I have read the novel but I want to watch episodes 1-13 first to familiarize the changes made to the adaptation. The subtitles release schedule is very disappointing and I really hope Legend of Anle does not follow the same format.
I do plan on lingering on this page probably through late April if English subs are available on April 22nd! Letās hope others join me and we can have the lively discussions then!
